I've watched this case so many times because I'm both Goth and a Metalhead. I've been into the cultures of both for almost 15 years. What happened to her is very tragic and saddening indeed.. thank you for covering this..

My daughters dressed goth and thank god no one hurt them. It’s tragic when others think they r much better than the ones they killed. It’s not worth it to hurt others. Get to know them. My girls both work now in the medical field and r productive citizens of Canada r married and have families of their own and I am very proud of them. And I love them so much

I think the appropriate sentence should be strapping the murders to a set of indestructible chairs. & letting the victims family & friends have a go at them with a 🏏 for 5 minutes each.

You can't and you shouldn't be able to sentence a juvenile to life without parole. Yeah they should recieve a sentence, i just think it's too harsh to sentence someone who's under the age of 18 to LWOP. Brain is not fully developed until 25 years of age, research shows. I think 18 should be the absolute minimum age for such sentences

Sylvia attended an alternative festival here in Sweden, the Subkult Festival, where her charity and a Swedish equivalent cooperated together. I had lived in the UK 2004 - 2013, and remember this horrible crime well and could relate a lot being alternative myself. I had a stall at the festival selling my designed accessories and was doing airbrush tattoos. I had the honour of finally meeting Sylvia in person and got to do a black rose for her ❤ Lovely woman and stuff a sweet lady. RIP both of you ❤

Such a tragic and heartbreaking story. I was 15 when this happened and dressed goth aswell. I've also dealt with quite some bullying and harrasment because of how i looked, especially when i moved to a small town. Friends of mine got beaten up too. Kids today should count their blessings, they don't know how hard it was back then to be and look different, it was definitely not as celebrated and tolerated as it is today

I certainly would have been one of Sophie’s few friends had I known her as I was growing up in the 1980’s. I too was a Goth who wore black or dark clothing all the time; I hated all the animalistic social “frenzy” about and emphasis on sports, and instead preferred reading poetry, philosophy, and apocryphal religious texts; thought of myself as an agnostic questioning everything; loved attending poetry slams while inhaling a good blunt at the coffee house; hated the anti-intellectual, anti-artistic, closed-minded, hierarchical conservative “values” of all the cliques of “popular” kids in school; and found many of the things I felt and thought about my hopelessly AWKWARD self expressed in the “alternative” or “underground” music I enjoyed so very much… Yes indeed: Sophie sounds like she was a fascinating person…And ABSOLUTELY!!!!! Just like Sophie and her friends, the little Goth “tribe” I was a part of *ALSO* did just as The Smiths did in “Cemetery Gates,” and read our favourite poems to one another while drinking and smoking in the cemetery!

It invariably strikes me when I watch this particular series that the so-called “professional experts” they have on hand to provide “insightful analysis” of the case material--often it’s Dr. Keri Nixon, a so-called “forensic psychologist;” in this episode it’s “criminologist” David Wilson--it almost unfailingly strikes me that these purported “experts” providing “insightful, guiding analytic commentary” MAKE THE MOST BANAL, SELF-EVIDENT, SIMPLISTIC, and INSIPID OBSERVATIONS……Who knew, Dr. David Wilson, that “when ppl are forming their friendship groups, they seek out others with similar interests, values, and forms of enjoyment--in short, they seek out people LIKE THEMSELVES?!?!?” And who would have ever figured out, Dr. Wilson, without your “enlightening” analysis, that “one’s friendship group is an important part of one’s IDENTITY”?????? Without you, oh sacred “professional expert,” we’d all be lost……

It’s quite frustrating that this episode began by asking whether Brendan Harris’s and Ryan Herbert’s adolescent violence was a product of the environment in which they were raised, or whether their propensity for violence was innate, inborn; yet in the episode itself, we are told scarcely *anything* about the infancy, early childhood, or family and school life of *either* offender. This makes it IMPOSSIBLE for a viewer OR the program to even *begin* trying to answer the question that the *program itself* posed.

the fact they taregeted her and her boyfriend tells me alternative style where she lived was not the norm like it is in the usa and didnt really see it there and anything diffrent from the average jock and cheerleader gets picked on. to be honest with those kids who did it i think the violence was already in them and they found a target to use it on sadly. if only sophie didnt go back out that night she would be alive or maybe if they avoided the park and went somewhere close to home .

Why should they not have gone to the park? Everyone should feel free to go where they want in public, without fear!!! The blame here lies only with the perpetrators, NOT the victims!
