It’s actually fortunate (for lack of a better word) it happened in a church with monks around or it would never have been recorded so well. Henry ii walked about 3 miles barefoot to beckets tomb & was whipped 100 times from the monks!! Again making sure it was recorder. PR stunt. Great vid 👍🏻really enjoy everything about Henry ii

Well done! Truly a pivotal event in not just English history but religious and political history. It was part of the age old dispute of state and church going back to the days of Rome! I think when Henry heard what happened was mortified! You just didn't do that in miedeval times, even if you were the king!

Wow, thank you for this amazing video. Well done, and easily digestible. Stumbled across this because I had randomly thought of this story earlier and found it really moved me for some reason. I actually feel sorry for king Henry II, he lost one of his closest friends. But also Thomas Becket, and the appreciation I feel towards him. Although I am not a fan of papal supremacy and the medieval church, Becket's devotion and sudden change in his behavior to better serve God is admirable. Maybe it's silly but I would believe miracles did happen at Canterbury Cathedral, after the events of his murder. He was truly a pious, devout man. Respects.

@@thunderbird1921 insane literally describes most monarchs in their reign in those days. The King Henry's were overly violent and control freaks, King Edward's were cruel and power hungry. King Richards were manipulative and prone to fits of insanity that caused the deaths of lots of people for no real reason. The Kings you hear about all had something wrong with them. The peaceful kings didn't start wars or battle for everything they had peaceful reigns and less dysfunctional families that's why it's the crazy ones who are remembered.

God never seems to be there when he’s actually needed but then believers would argue that his death damaged Henry ii reputation & Henry forever thought Beckets death cursed his reign. Mysterious ways & all that. Although Henry walking miles barefoot to Beckets tomb & being whipped 100 times kinda wiped the slate clean for him so God knows (pardon the pun) I suppose ppl were just so much closer to God back then, ignorant to science & logic explanations that they interpreted as the work of God.

What a laugh. Thomas Becket stood for the Church being above secular authority. What does that mean today? Well, child molesting priests being above the law. "Thomas Becket is the patron saint of child molesters" --David Starkey. Good riddance I say.

What a bad lie, and you all lap it up like truth lol. "Omg I was mad and my knights mistook that as a direct order to go and kill Becket, omg I'm so sorry let me go get whipped in penance" 😂

He betrayed the king who put him in that lofty position he had.. Of course King Henry vented/ordered his men to kill him. Feel kinda bad King Henry II did all that work to rule just for his sons to lose Everything after he died... Though Henry never bothered to teach his sons how to rule as Kings should so kinda his fault too.

Any number of worked up crackpot Democrats in crucial Democrat crackpot cities shutting down counting all the same time, Biden behind largely, very behind, then re-opening six hours later with fake-ass ballots counted as good, and good votes by legal voters thrown away or changed. We saw a massive effort toward confusion and chaos by Secretary of States changing voting rules to loosen them using COVID as cover. Then total shutdown across all internet platforms for ALL conservative voices. But that's okay with you. And with every last person I know including my own family. You've been taking in straight up Democrat propaganda posing as news for years and thinking it's actual news. All of my friends are like you. Satisfied with rotten information and fancying yourselves well-informed. And, finally, you bringing this up in an unrelated video demonstrates to everyone who is not you, my point about being a political crackpot. You make your jackass remarks entirely inappropriately.
