'The Fly' is simply the gold standard for body horror and slow-burn, creeping dread. I think the movie is essential viewing for every up and coming film buff.

Also, seriously, the tooth and fingernail body horror in The Fly is LITERALLY the stuff of nightmares. I have had nightmares completely unrelated to The Fly that involve my teeth rotting or falling out and fingernails peeling off or hair falling out and they are by far the worst nightmares I have ever remembered. Cronenberg really went to the bank with this movie

I don't even remember how it came up but when I was a child in the 90s my mom told me that The Fly was the most horrifying movie she had ever seen and naturally that piqued my curiosity. I think I maybe caught a scene of it on cable TV as a child and quickly decided it was too scary for me. I watched it as an adult maybe 10 years ago after really getting into horror sci-fi movies and it easily became one of my favorite movies of all time because it's just that good

Not only is this a great movie on its own, but it's also one of the best examples how to remake a beloved film. It knew how to maintain the original story's core subject, while also doing something new and interesting with the scientist's horrific transformation; both emotionally and physically. I still can't get over how amazing the Brundlefly's final form looks.
@danielwilliamson61802 жыл бұрын
Jeff Goldblum should had got a Oscar nomination for his brilliant performance in The Fly. The Fly is a classic. A masterpiece. Shocking. Emotional. Powerful. Scary. Tragic. The movie explored the concept of genetic fusion and mutation and what would happen if a man got fused with a fly in a teleportation experiment and it's consequences. Jeff Goldblum should do a reaction video to The Fly 2.

6:34 I wonder if a future Jurassic Park story might do some respectful tribute of Goldblum's best known films (including this one)? Especially if they might incorporate Carboniferous arthropods into the mix (since ILM & Amblin Television will be involved in a upcoming paleo-documentary series released on Netflix next year).

It's refreshing seeing Jeff Goldblum playing the lead character in a film and also doing such a great job getting you emotionally invested in his tragic story in the film and making you root for him to succeed in his relationship with Geena Davis but ultimately knowing it's going to end in disaster, a legendary emotional horror film.

The original was good but it's ending was really dark and terrifying for the 50s. The 80s remake definitely took it to another level both in the body horror and the science gone wrong tropes, pitty the sequel learned nothing from its predecessor and just made it a generic monster movie, and the creature effects are seriously lacking in quality too 😔
@Haplo699g2 жыл бұрын
The Fly is a fantastic movie rates up there with a lot of the classic remakes from the eighties. The sequel is nowhere near as good but contains a scene which will destroy you if you're a dog lover.

Watched it when i was in 9 years old. I was expecting full on horror, with goo and a monster. I was spoiled on the transformation sequence and _symptoms_ that Brundle was going through but that was nothing compared to actually watching them. Also I do recommend watching the 2nd film just to advance the lore and if you want further lore on it go check the IDW comic _The Fly: Outbreak_. The art is good enough and does shed some curious light on the story

I have this theory, a chaos theory one might say, that Jeff Goldbulm doesn't 'act' anymore. I've seen almost all of his work and around the mid 90s is when he stopped 'acting' and started leaning into his Goldblumisims that everyone loves about him. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. He's still great in his modern roles but you can see the transition from amateur actor, to solid actor, to Goldblumisim actor.

As much as I _like_ good ole' Jeff, practical effects in 80s flicks (like this one), Science-Fiction, and monsters...I don't know, man. David Croenenberg has never really been my personal cup of tea; I *_don't_* hate him by ANY mean, I was just never really into 'Body Horror.' It's a little TOO on the 'grotesque' and 'unsettling' side for me (which I gather *is* the point of it). Heck, to this day, I'm amazed that I made it through David Lynch's _"Eraserhead."_

The Fly was Awesome to watch. My favroute parts are where Seth Brundle he's in a coffee shop and just plopping Tablespoons of sugar in his coffee/tea after believing he has been improved by the teleportation experience. & He goes walking through the streets looking for a test subject where the music score is Thunderous to listen to And he finds his way into a drinking bar & has an Arm Wrestle for $100 and picks up a woman for the night, upon causing a broken bone fracture to his opponent. Part 2 is just as cool to watch as well. Starring Eric Stoltz what happens to the poor dog 🐕 is such a sad scene. but the film it's final scene at the end of the movie as the credits role..... is just perfect and leaves you with such a feeling of OMFG that's so bone chilling.
