Demon dude literally said he is a Jungian persona, which would be the shadow (which is kinda like Freud his id) the big twist compared to the Id of freud and Jungs Shadow is that, the shadow is built up fro childhood trauma etc. And that the big goal in Jungian theory is not to destroy the Shadow but to encorporate it, hence he also loses some brain fuctions. Because he isnt a whole person anymore. For anyone interested in Jungian theory I recommend Anthony Starr "the essential Jung" . I got to admit, that it takes some serious interest into psychology to actually integrate that into a boomer shooter and specifically Postal lore. So props to them

Well based primarily on story elements we know for a fact that there are three Postal Dudes in this game. We have the Conscious Dude, The "Dream" Dude, and Demon Dude. From the beginning of the game we are presented with the Dream Dude telling us the story, my theory is that this beginning sequence would be considered a part of The Dude's subconscious. The next scene is a recollection of when The Conscious Dude laying on the couch and falling asleep. You have to remember that thematically this is a big event. Because at the beginning of the scene the player is immediately shown the expectations of The Dude's character, a reclusive young adult surrounded by filth and drugs. His house is run down, just like you would expect. The Conscious Dude is expected to behave just like the classic Postal 2 FPS. Now during the entirety of P:BD this game plays like a "Boomer Shooter" a modern game that is supposed to play like games during the DOOM-era. This is yet another completely different shift in gameplay from the other entries, yet it's not too far off. Think about Demon Dude, what is it about him that makes him so unique? We have had so many Dudes over the years in different media. Could it be the fact that pretty much "Old" Dude. This is the conflicting aura of the story. The most challenging part of Dream Dude's journey through his psyche is facing his old self. All Dudes are pretty much unrelated, but this is a unique case where two of them are existing on one plane. Even if it's in Conscious Dude's mind we still have an instance of this event happening... Anyways The Demon Dude seems to be a manifestation of the expectations of all the older titles. Most old fans will recognize this character by his dark energy and menacing red eyes. This is the energy of going Postal and mass murder. All Dudes subconsciously desire to become this, but this battle between Dream Dude and Demon Dude is the Conscious Dude's way of overcoming his social anxieties. Or it could be a simulation considering he woke up with a chip in his head.

I feel like the inclusion of OG Postal Dude voice Rick Hunter may have been a late development thing, since early on in marketing material and the OG teaser, the main threat was Postal Dude's alien shirt hence why the last chapter is heavily space and sci fi based, however I think at some point either RWS or maybe they got contacted by Hunter and they probably reworked it so Other Dude would be the main villain as to involve him and accidentally created more lore and speculation, Multi Dude Theory? Merging of The Dudes, Dude Cognitive disassociation?
@ABuffWizard2 жыл бұрын
It’s a lot to speculate about. I’m not super knowledgeable about the development of Brain Damaged or Postal 4 and how they’re inclusion of Hunter might have come about. Whether it’s anything story/lore related or just fan service it’s still fun opportunity to include the OG voice!
@TimeBomb014X2 жыл бұрын
@@ABuffWizard I think it's fan service because of the big love the Postal community has for Hunter. Neither do I, but looking back at the original teaser, it featured the alien on Dude's shirt giant sized and attacking The Dude, plus in early promo stills like the art work you see a giant alien in the background. So I think that was the idea at first and I believe it's a late change in the game because act 3 is more heavily based on Sci-Fi movies and space levels that I think the focus for Other Dude came much later with the levels and enemies already made. Anyway that's just speculation on my part but I enjoyed your Postal videos, keep up the good work and just remember to sign any petitions a ginger haired man in shades ask you to sign

Alter dude really means when he cannot die that he’s not going to be forgotten. His visceral “death” is dude thinking he shut him up for good this time represented in what he wants to see in his mind back in control. But he just comes back. He’s Dude when he gets fed up with the insanity of staying sane in a mad world. Note that you have to use violence against bosses to proceed. You practically have to kill enemies to survive the levels. Alter Dude is a shadow. A mask dude puts everything he hates about himself in an effort to toss it all away. But he can’t. Because the absurdity, insanity, stupidity, and cruelty of the real world cannot be avoided. Dude needs Alter Dude to survive usually, to fight back. However, Dude can be very caring and introspective as seen in pacifist endings. He simply leaves The Bitch to wallow in her own self inflicted misery in 2, and in 4 can walk away from Edinsin with a jolly demeanor. So while dude can never shut Alter Dude up, it’s possible to ignore him. Which honestly is the best way to deal with a shadow, just let the urges pass over you and ignore them. Also, the brain damage is still literal. Dude is trying to numb himself with alcohol and drugs. He’s trying to kill Alter Dude in a way that matters. But there is only one. And dude will never survive it.

What if at some point in the Dudes live something really traumatic broke him and hes been in a Asylum ever since. Like none of the Postal Games make any real sense except the 1st one. Postal 2 could very well be a dream or hallucination. I feel like the dude dreams Postal 2 because he wants to escape the Asylum and dreams of a normal life. Like the errand list and the game taking place in a seemingly normal city points to that. But there are cracks everywhere like the weird sounds, the hell dogs, people going insane and so much more. The fact that he pisses on his dad's grave and the abusive relationship with his wife also point to the fact that the Dude probably had a shitty life before coming into the Asylum. The fact that every subsequent entry in the main series repeats the formula of P2 could mean that the Dude always makes up a new cycle of Monday to Friday (or Sunday) in a different setting but with the same exact purpose. I dont think anything that happens in any of the Postal games (except maybe P1 but I'm not sure) ever really happened. Everything feels to surreal and in some ways unsettling. If you remove all the haha funny from P2, it is really, *really* disturbing. The most unsettling thing about P2 is that Paradise isnt like a super creepy and disturbing place at first glance, but then you add the Dude and his errands and the whole town turns into a fucking place of horrible mutilation and mass murder. Even if you play on pacifist, the people around you turn into serial killers and at the end of the week the whole town has become a battlefield. Also what if the Dude is a Veteran and that's why he imagines all the Al Qaeda/Taliban, but that's probably reaching a bit too far. This is probably a little bit incoherent but it was more of a ramble anyways.

Honestly, the writing and environmental story telling is more clever than in POSTAL 4. It's so weird that the rights holders to their own franchise (RWS) don't even know what to do anymore with their IP and that some third party developer made a POSTAL Game that kept it's edginess of postal 1 and the goofiness of postal 2, making it seem more like a true sequel to POSTAL 2 than POSTAL 4 itself claims to be. Sure, the humor can still be a bit immature but at least it seems more clever than POSTAL 4, that's trying to make it seem like they're trying to attract a younger audience or something. I mean POSTAL 4 is literally the definition of "peepee poopoo haha funny sex word".
@VB-922 жыл бұрын
Maybe Postal 4 would have been better off as a blend of 1 and 2. Like having a mix of seriousness combined with the humor. Actually here's an idea, the more you senselessly kill and hurt people, the more you become like postal 1 dude, the less funny and more dark the game becomes and the more you avoid going on killing sprees and only fight back in self defense, the more the dude acts like his joke cracking postal 2 self. Would have been a neat duality.

Could you do a video laying out the connections of the games? i feel like there is a inner story laying inside the game since 1 doesn't end in death, but getting entrapped in an asylum maybe be released into society, and either causing him to be a functioning member of society in 2 or a mass murderer. In this video he seems he does want to cut the murdery side of his life off as you present, maybe making a deeper mental connection in this seemingly shallow series with too many dick jokes.

Hey, random day in the internet and the almighty algorithm showed me this video ;) First of all, wow, it's such a beautiful essay diving deep into the design of PBD. I absolutely love the interpretation down the horror avenue. Also, to answer your thoughts about the Goliath: I was the writer in PBD, and while character design was complete, I couldn't help myself not to insert a wink to Micolash (hence "The host of nightmares"), so your intuition was well in line with author's intent ;)

(Slight Spoiler Warning cause I have to give certain details to explain myself) I have no shame admitting it was Civvie who showed me the Postal series through his videos on Postal 2. But this game I experienced for myself first. And yeah, it creeped me out at so many points, especially during the second act. The enemy design mixed with the artsyle and music was just an offkey note of reality. But I felt something else during this game and something I wasn't expecting: Confidence and love of life. I was in college, ready to go with a club to a anime convention. It was gonna be the first I had made a full on costume for, with sewing work props and everything. I had felt it was going to be the start of a great hobby and some of the meetings offered were going to be my entry into several creative fields. Take a solid guess what happened. After that, everything just got worse and worse. It felt like people were loosing their minds. Distance learning was a disaster, so many projects were forced into the can because prices went nuts, and everyday all I could hear was how everything sucked and we were all gonna die. Every time I tried to look for a straight answer to what was going on, I was greeted with nothing but shouting matches were everyone was blaming everyone else and giving evidence (whether real or fake mattered not) to why the other was the devil incarnate and why they shouldn't be allowed to live. And even worse, every avenue I had to try and relieve myself of stress and worry was completely closed up. It seemed all anyone had to give was either more shouting about our inevitable death or screaming at the audience that trying to be happy means you're mentally disabled. If not, it was self-righteous journalists and incompetent businessfolk. Add that to me leaving the net of college for the 'real world' in a retail position and I entered a very dark slump. I couldn't write, couldn't think, could hardly smile for more than a few minutes. But then I found this game and this series, with a world just enough like our own to seem real. But you weren't some poor helpless sap, you were someone who wouldn't let it all ruin your day. You'd fell every oak before you and still come out alright. You storm the Great Wall of Mexico, battle Karens, aliens and 5G towers and, once you kill the cursed virus by p!$$;g liquid nitrogen in it's eyes, you storm a convention hall and get glomped by furries kaijus. This was the message the world needed. Not 'Life Sucks Then You Die', not 'Ghostbusters is F+#7!g Stupid' and not 'Wubba Lubba Dub Dub.' The world is looney, the world is scary, and yeah, it can seem it's all out to get ya. But you CAN beat it. You CAN power through. You can win.

The best thing Running With Scissors did after The Game That Does Not Exist was keeping Corey Cruise on as a voice for the Dude. This one act made the sweetest lemonade out of Akela's lemons by letting the games go in a more psychological direction like here.

I really just want to see a proper second game of the original postal (if that makes any sense) without holding back just to see how much controversy it can start up. Because a lot of shootings are still happening but we have brushed them off for so long and if a game about virtual shootings conjures up more attention than actual shootings, it says something.

Rick Hunter's voice lines in Postal 1 are classified as Demon. So maybe Postal 1 is an alternative universe where the demon wins. I feel like Running With Scissors is doing a FNAF where they just make something really cryptic and make us figure it out. As if I care what is the storyline of a game where you pee on terrorists.

Something tells me if Dude went to Silent Hill the town would spawn all the enemies intact maybe with a F.Bacon makeover and probably he'd became a new nightmare host or some sort of pit that town as an entity can borrow negativity from. Pretty ironic since he owns a Pit Bull (not saying they are 100% of the time dangerous or aggressive, it's all about how you raise and train them but still they have the reputation). Maybe it's just an another way to show how he sees the world around him? Made me wonder if everything in his mind is literally flipped upside down as in something generally considered to be safe & friendly becomes dangerous & threatening in his mind. Would explain his seemingly happy and sarcastically joking demeanor when he's killing people, like he's "having fun with them".
