As a little kid, I was super creeped out by all the tales about the Tails Doll and whatnot, but nowadays, I just think it's kinda cute that I was ever scared at all. (PS: Sonic R's music is SO underrated.)

I felt the same way about playing it constantly as a child on the Gems Collection. It was at a stage in my life where playing in any 3d world was astonishing to me, and I viewed the few stages as fun playgrounds. Also all the songs slaps, don’t @ me. Also, I always appreciate when a review gets an anime final battle XP

As someone who unironically loves Sonic R and has bent it over my knee in the form of completing it dozen of times, I completely understand how bullshit this game can be. I've just gotten so used to it over the past month and a half that I can breeze through it in like 20 minutes. Completing this game as fast as possible is really fun if you know what you're getting into and how to work with the controls.

I loved Sonic R as a kid, that soundtrack was so good. Tails Doll, iconic. I have much stronger memories of having problems with unlocking the other racers rather than getting the Chaos Emeralds. I will of course never go back to it to compare my memories with what it actually is.

To everyone who takes the scary stuff out of Tails Doll seriously. That one "Tails Doll Curse" is from the 2005 meme out of Tails Doll and its mostly for meme horror, Tails Doll being scary is similar to Weegee which is a Mario meme from 2007 and Tails Doll is like the sonic version of Weegee. So in fact Tails Doll is the original Gorefield and people only fear him for the lols and not really scared of him just like with Weegee.

If I remember correctly, tails doll was in the sonic comics and was actually pretty scary/disturbing. I just found it kinda neat. EDIT: just got to the part where you mention this in the video XD

I do feel like there’s something to appreciate about the INTENDED concept behind the Tails Doll. It’s the mid-90s, Sonic is in a huge content drought due to the complications of Sonic X-treme, and Metal Sonic is one of the most popular characters in the franchise. Fans are dying to see a game with Metal versions of the other main characters. So they design Metal Knuckles, they have Metal Sonic, these two cool, menacing mechs. And someone probably goes “What if Tails just had a dinky looking plushie? Like everyone’s wondering how cool Metal Tails would look, but what if it was just a lame ass doll?” Honestly, I respect it.

When I was less than 10, I remember getting this game. I remember coming home from school, retrying the levels over and over until I was better, and perfecting my route. You CAN bounce off of the walls, but if you stay in 2nd place and just patiently watch 1st place NPC, you'll see that they slow down around corners. This is unintuitive during a racing game, but once you implement it, your times will improve dramatically. I view the problems you listed more as features than issues. The game isn't as easy as Mario Kart, but it's a different game. It's more similar to Sonic riders.

I do have some nostalgia for this game, since I also really enjoyed it as a child ^^ I’m not sure I’d go back to it now, unless I really felt like it. I legit love the soundtrack though haha! I had a creepypasta phase and I remember there being a lot of Tails Doll fan games at one point. It’s silly now but I did enjoy it all back then. Happy Holidays ^^

Sonic R, for its short development time, was quite a technical feat for the Saturn. Sonic Team was responsible for the track design while Travelers Tales did the coding. And the music is absolutely classic & have heard it performed live & got the PC version autographed by the musicians.

I never thought I would have so much fun playing a shitty game but Sonic R proved that it could happen. I would replay the game over and over again, replaying levels, unlocking characters over and over again, attempting to get all 5 tokens and chaos emeralds in the levels. I like to brag that I'm very good at this game, and even know some very helpful shortcuts/cheats to do so. Somehow, this game had replay value. And sure I was playing as Sonic the whole time because you pretty much had to in order to unlock Super Sonic, but cmonnnnn its fun... i guess-

Guess I’m the freaky one. Not only did I like the game, but I love playing as Tails Doll when he’s available. Granted, I mostly just played with my brother and we messed around more than played the actual game, but yeah. Even after learning about the creepypasta story, I still love Tails Doll. I always have a smile on my face whenever I spot him in an official Sonic game.

I genuinely really love sonic r, I think the idea of having a racing game where you have to platform around and use your different abilities to take shortcuts and make a good route to get all the collectibles is genius and super unique and I don’t really get why so many people hate the controls. I’d recommend using the drift way more often as I’ll use it almost all the time and it’s super useful. Also holding B to accelerate is a lot easier than holding up and by pressing both L and R lets you break which is useful for some collectibles. I just wanted to mention all that because it’s not super obvious that some of these are things you can do. At the end of the day though if you don’t end up liking the controls at all I totally get that killing the game for you. The controls are what you’re using the entire game and if you don’t like that then it’s going to harm the overall experience, but I still don’t really think the game asks anything to unreasonable of the player, especially if you’re just getting one emerald per race, then there’s plenty of time to get the thing and still get first. My biggest problem with the game through is definitely just how unbalanced it is. Super sonic is way fast then anyone else and some characters are just way too slow. I still get some enjoyment form trying to win with some of the worse characters as a sort of challenge but the game really should be better balanced. Also where you using a mod during some of the game footage? I know that there’s a mod that tries to make the game control nicer but for some reason it takes away the circle from Sonics jump and I think it changes the mini map to show character heads instead of little circles that represent them. This isn’t really a problem a just thought you would’ve pointed it out if that’s the case
