Jon has some amazing feats of strenght during the books, and they are always associated with him raging. Apart from that ocassion with Iron Emmet, there is the instance when he lifts Alister Thorne and starts choking him. Like... Jon is sixteen and lifting a dude presumably heavier than him in ringmail... that is no joke! The other one is when they find the poles left by the weeper, with the heads of the rangers impaled on them. He hulks out and just lifts one of the poles from the ground. Afterwards it says that the other poles are removed by 3 men-teams...

Great discussion, folks. One thing I think you might have missed though … Patchface! I’m not sure what may end up happening, but Mel does say she’s seen him in her fires, surrounded by skulls with blood on his lips, so it does make sense something sinister could go down in the next book when Patchface gets to the Nightfort.

Speaking of Rob as Witch King, what do you guys think is the symbolism of snow melting in Rob’s hair? Jon mentions that snow is melting in Sam’s hair when he sees Sam off for Oldtown.

@@JoeMagician Mayhaps, but I tend to think a historical profusion of bastards surnamed Snow is only natural and no different nor more hateful than any other surnamed variety of Crows, so wouldn't stand out for special frisson to a brave spearwife like Ygritte. The name Jon doesn't seem to be an abundant or common name among the Westerosi, either above or below the Wall. "Jon Snow" however is reacted to in a particular, singular, and evidently more foreboding manner. Just sayin...

I too like the idea that Nightford is an og home of Starks. It kinda even works with names. Starks were Kings of Winter. Winter, not North. The Long Night was a generation long winter. We see here a connection between words winter and night. Nightford is a fort build for nights. Or Nights. Maybe Kings of Night, ie. Kings of Winter? Also I would like to see some discussion of name Winterfell. It can both mean a place where Winter began but also where it ended. If Starks became kings during Long Night and stabilized their throne by endind it, then it would be quite symbolic to give the castle build for Long Night to the group meant to keep it away and start living in a place where Winter has fallen.

If they're gonna hide out in the Nightfort, and the killing tale would be retold, I want it to be Ghost with Jon inside. No need to remove shoes and be careful with clanking weapons when Ghost is silent af. It could be his own POV and we could see the struggle of his and Ghost's persona and could be the part where he loses his humanity and why he comes back effed up. If not his POV, it could be Mel knowing somehow that Jon is in Ghost and is observing him/them or something. Then cue the horror montage, and she goes "well, I think I need to get him out of his wolf" only for him to come back effed up. "Uh oh". And that could parallel them with Night's King and Queen somehow. Idk. I'm just watching the lives because when I binge-watched back a few months ago, I forgot to look at the "Live" tab like a dumbo.

Hi Matt! This stream brought up a bunch of things I hadn't thought of before - especially Celise, her men and those against Jon would flee to the Night Fort. I barely remember Dance of Dragons since I'm re-reading the earlier books. I also wanted to comment on the early marriage/consummation of the Jaeherys and Alysanne - I haven't read Fire and Blood yet, so I don't know the details. All I know is what you guys brought up that they were at 13/14 when this happened and you guys thought it was odd? Well, I was surprised because when I was in secondary school in the 90s (in Scotland), girls in my year were getting pregnant at 14 (not a whole bunch of them) and a lot of people in my year were sexually active under the age of 15, so this doesn't seem odd to me at all. I mean my school became the school that these underage mums came to to continue their education, so they came from all over my city to my school. I suppose it depends on the context you grew up in...

There's a lot swirling around Jon in his chapters in ADWD, it's easy to overlook especially he doesn't tend to notice them. He's distracted a lot and doesn't see the knives coming, so as a reader totally understandable to not pick up on it either. I believe the lines in Fire and Blood say that child marriages are very uncommon, only extremely high powered political marriages would feature them. Most people in Westeros that do get married do so by early 20's. But, you're right sexual activity usually starts sooner. Guess it's drawing a distinction between sex and marriage.
@stephaniepeer3787
@stephaniepeer3787 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the clarification. Drawing the distinction between sex and marriage really is an interesting point. And you're nice and all about ADWD, but really, I barely remember it! I know the key points like Jon's stabbing and Dany in the Dothraki sea, but no. I need to re-read it. :D

Angry resurrected Jon going full cray cray vengeance ..could also apply and to Arya who is going on a full vengeance way murder them all in your list stuff ..She books and show is very consumed by her dream of vengeance against all of those who hurt her family,her friends and her ..She in the books is going a bit darker and darker on her path..What she endures in the House of Black and White and her strange training there helps on this ..In the show she probably is a bit more human and she instead to go to kill Cercei in S7 ..she meet with Hot Pie in his tavern and she learns about her family take back Winterfell and decides to return home instead to go alone on her ala Miss Vengeance mission to kill Cercei in KL ..See the difference between book Arya and show Arya..Its notable .

I am not a horror movie fan, most work around jumpscares, which does not work for me . . . Or beeing gross . . . I do not like beeing grossed out while watching shitty characters die of after doing the most stupid thing they could have done . . . It is just not my thing, I need good characters or a good storie to be entrigued. Not a movie, but a visual medium, Penny dreadful, I liked that one for the absolutly brillantly portrayed characters . . . One wants to hate Frankenstein for how bad one feels for his creation . . . But just like in the book, he is just a very sad and lost existance himself, compleatly selfcentered and causing a lot of harm . . .but not without trades one has to feel pity for too. They have the only good and truthful portrail of his creation I have ever encountered beside the book he origined in . . . Also, the female lead is just plainly awesome . . . My favorit horrorstory is probably "the case Charles Dexter Ward" from HP Lovecraft. It is not realy scary but a realy good story where the horror works over sympathy, for those faceing it. A storiy he gets a hell ton of shit for, "a color from outerspace" is in a way way scaryer, if one allowed themself to think about it. "Oh no, a color never seen before, it might kill is!" . . . Yeah that sounds rediculus, but it is not about a color, color was just the closest symbolic name to understand the concept of what he was actualy trying to convey. The story showes the fantasy equivalent of a radiation poisoning or a fallout which is quite a scary thing for like the mythical unknowen, one can not fight or quite understand it, but slowely it effects one and you will never know what exactly killed you, so the parallel makes a lot of sense. But for the story to work you have to think with it, not against, so I understand why many do not like it. Those typ of horror stories are way more my thing, even if Lovecraft was an absolut catastrophy and pretty pretty racist . . . He understood horror for he was constantly afraid himself and for he is long dead, I do not need to feel bad for supporting someone of questionable morals, he grains nothing from me reading them anymore. There are few monsters of horrorshings I find actualy scary . . . Funnely 2 came from Dr. Who . . .the Weeping Angels, for they would be everywhere and I do not even know . . . And the kid with the gasmask calling for his mom . . .it is a show kids are allowed to watch . . . On the other hand, I invented a monster for a "childrensbook" i think I will have to change the target audiance for, for the monster almost have two of my friends nightmares . . . But I realy like it and can not think of something else instead . . . Beside that, IT is scary, King to is very familiar with what horror is too . . . But I do not like his "authors voice" and I can not conect to his characters . . . The only book I actuly read compleatly and liked was the non horror, "the green mile" which I absolutly adore . . .it is realy different from his other writings.

The Kings of Winter crown is an open crown, like a circlet. It has nine iron swords on it (reminiscent of the ringwraiths in LotR). Could it have once held 12 swords, worn by the 13th lord commander, but was "broken" by Brandon the Breaker when he defeated the Night's King, reclaiming his crown, now let with only nine? Or, mayhaps it was a circlet, a woman's crown; the Corpse Bride's crown. Catelyn now has such a crown in her hands.

You're right that the lifespan thing was an issue and people had to "grow up" early in some ways, but puberty didn't hit girls as early as it does in current industrialized nations. "Flowering," as George calls it, is triggered by body fat, so malnourished girls physically mature way later.

Lifespans weren't much shorter, if a person survived through their childhood they lived pretty long (unless a war happened or sth). And people didn't marry at 13. They married in their 20s, sometimes nobles would get engaged young but only for political reasons.

Excellent, so many outstanding propositions here, well done! I will only note : I find his child personages very relatable, & very true to life, enough so that as a young man still, I see myself in many of these children. As to early marriage / relations : this too is very much part of reality. Quite a number of boys & girls in my family, many of my own direct ancestors, have been indeed not only betrothed very early, but also married early, producing children as swiftly as possible. The youngest marriage is of a boy, to a slightly older girl, as she could not be made to produce a child as early as he could be; it was a tactical calculation, even from parents who did love their children; at least so it was in many cases within my family’s histories. In the case of my family, this was a matter of political & dynastic significance, oblige, duty, & embraced in familial cultural standards ; time was often not wasted, especially not in my mother’s side of the line. Also, yes : for our family there have always been very high rates of marriage within the same close lines, too, including of uncles-nieces, aunts-nephews, & most commonly cousins. This was to an even greater extent than many other old families in the same countries, too… strange as I have come to fully realise it is to many today! And yes, as we see in F.A.B., there were problems at times & places with religious authorities due to this - & yes, our family held itself as an exception to such restrictions, ignoring any outside edicts. (And yes, this has come at a significant cost!, a cost affecting to this day in rare congenital unusualities.) Also, I should note in reference to how children perceive, think, & act : much of it varies I think drastically at times by both individual differences & by culture, including familial-level culture. To this day an high degree of expectation is held for us as children in my experience; I have been raised, taught, respected, & supported, in living as a young man in mind, discipline, conduct, etc, even as a boy, even as a child, even when having a low number of years; atop this, my natural disposition also inclines in certain facets to something seen as not-childlike, so there is that, too!.. So to me at least? : What many find as unrealistic portraits of children in the worlds of G.R.R.M., I find as very much real & reflective of life as it is, for so it is for me. And I find his depiction of early marriages, & of intrafamily marriages, very real to this world, very reflective of life, which is a nice change to see in modern western literature, which I find often in contrast simply makes a mockery of all such experiences, even as such experiences shape the histories, lives, epigenetic experiences, & genetic compositions of many people around the world to this day. Again, all my respect to you for your outstanding work here! I mean no disrespect at all; I only thought it could be helpful to add a perspective from within a family who has lived with these experiences, cultural norms, & expectations, too - even though now very early marriages no longer today are required, happily! Yet anyway, all of these are reasons I find so much with which to easily relate - yet then again, I suppose my family is in many ways not precisely modern, even though things including ages of marriage have changed!

Personally i dont see how Jon gonna get rage against Danny or kill her as nissa nissa..Killing loved ones is not his type...They are not probably got met in the books ...Most probably Danny gonna met with FAegon and they gonna marry[uniting Blackfyres and Targaryens in one rule]..Grrm may resurrect Jon in the books or may not ..If he be resurrected there i want him to kill Sansa instead of Danny..Sansa is the no1 responsible there for the downfall of the Starks ..because she in S1 /book 1 betrayed Ned choosing to marry Geoffrey over her family .and this hasnt been repaid still ..It will be repaid in S8/book 6 or 7 with her get dies for the betrayals.she commited against her family.
