As someone who fluently speaks Russian. The correlation between the name of the mine and the date suggests it’s likely 50th Anniversary of the victory in the Second World War or as it was known in the Soviet Union (The Great Patriotic War) a very important date and a holiday in Russia. There were many things named this way to honor the V-Day including cars, newspapers, factories, and mines such as this one. Half-Life 2 takes place somewhere in the Eastern Europe, however if the date states that it is 50 years since then, that means the mine was constructed or reconstructed roughly around 1995, and by then the Soviet Union ceased to exist. Given how this date is still celebrated in Russia, and Cyrillic alphabet is still was being used in other European countries such as Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Serbia, Bulgaria, and some parts of the Baltic States. My theory is that some of these places were occupied by United Russian and European UN forces during Combine invasion and the 7 Hour War.

Half life alyx C17 is set in sofia. so its canon that this prob takes place in Bulgaria/Romania/Serbia balkans. also we dont know the exact date of when the resonance cascade happened, some say its 2000s to late 1990s so this mine being called victory mine and opened in after USSR fallen doesnt make sense, considering Bulgaria doesnt rly care about great patriotic war unlike Russia and Belarus/Ukraine.

The final Antlion wave in Vortal Coil is genuinely the best moment in the entire Half-Life series imo (second best if we count Black Mesa Interloper's finale) and will stick in my mind forever.

The Hospital rush in Episode 1 is also a close contender for third, but its really hard to top the final Antlion Wave and even harder to top Interloper Finale. The BM team went above and beyond with the soundtrack, and that definitely played a huge part

There are quite a few signs of settlement in the mines. But the other tragic thing is the bridge complex right outside of the mines was supposed to be manned by at least a sentry. However there's nothing but zombies and combine corpses. The road to white Forest is paved with lots of would be rebel camps that have been completely overrun and torn apart. Aswell as the factor that the only survivor of the city seemed to be the Zombies... Which were pouring out in droves and infesting the railways. The combine tried to mitigate the problem with an automated turret, but it basically ran nonstop.

This video was absolute perfection, the only thing I didnt like was the choppy movement 8:29 idk if there is a cinematic addon or some addon that makes your camera movement smoother, it felt off. You also probably know me for ranting about some stuff in your latest Half Life/ Portal video, and just to say you have improved ALOT! (btw i edited this part) I also really like your new thumbnail style idk if it was you but I enjoyed it!

Fun fact. If you want to experience the angriest vort in the entire franchise just let one of those ant lions sneak past you when he's healing the Alyx Vance. I forgot to move a turret once and turned around and saw him being attacked by three of them while screaming "DEFEND US!!!!!!!!". Made the next part of escorting him through the mines super awkward. He never mentioned it though.

I know this is not specifically question for the video, but I wonder if there is enough information for a video about other cities and life within them beside City 17? Where were they located, were they close to City 17 or scattered around the world, did they have their own resistance branch within, what were the conditions to travel from 1 city to another (since there were few people on the train in the begining of HL2), did they also have a citadel type of building, did they rise too when the resistance uprising started in City 17 etc.?

i cant image how terrifying it would be to be stuck between four openings with limited ammo and two failing turrets as you slowly but surely get overrun by huge bugs ready to rip and tear

I used to replay the Griggs & Sheckley section over and over again as a kid. Half Life Episode 2 had the best environments in my opinion becaused it really showed that the combine were spread so thin they ended up just making centralized mega cities since they couldn't control all the fauna & alien life that came to earth since the cascade. Even if the resistance wins the earth is forever changed from all the alien life.

I always felt the mine like a more enclosed Ravenholmn and with added antlions. From within infested with antlions and the entrances/exits with headcrabs, zombies and barnacles.

The Victory Mine was a good part in episode 2 despite the game being short but this very location played an important role within the game. I love how absolutely prepared the resistance white forest are, they were always ready for just about anything that the combine throws at them. I like this lore and it the story it tells.

@@Skyrionn It's an old 3D point-and-click game by Benoit Sokal, it's pretty good, especially sound and visuals. Komkolzgrad is one of the areas, a former Soviet steel mill with a hidden missile launch base. I definitely recoomend to check it out!

It's rare to see Half-Life lore and theories videos. Guess I didn't put too much thought into this mine fore the past 10 years. I tried once to count every dead, alive, zombified rebel&citizen I came across to see how many of them were there. I once accidentally broke the scripted sequences for the 2 we find alive (during the antlion waves) where I spawned citizens npcs and the ones I spawned move to defend the waves instead.

insane how insignificant the combine see the resistance, like the march across the bridge was supposed to be this "oh shit" moment where you realize how truly fucked you are, and in the end that's just an overwatch brigade. Imagine how truly horrifying it must of been for the real human soldiers to fight actual division sized universal union troops. You know its bad when the single biggest hope humanity has of winning this war is met with a garrison brigade. Either the combine are utterly underestimating the rebellion or that really is an appropriate response force.

My universe in the half life multiverse. 1982: cave Johnson died. Caroline takes over Black Mesa and Wallace Breen becomes her friend. 1996: Caroline dismissed and removed the test chambers from aperture science. Chell has found a beautiful husband. 2001: Gordon Freeman and Collette Green quit working at black mesa. Caroline and Wallace Breen dismissed materials that could result in a resonance cascade and tells the scientists to use common sense. 2016: Gordon Freeman and Collette Green are both married and have kids of their own. They are now godparents to alyx vance. In this timeline glados was never created, the resonance cascade combine invasion didn't exist, and the world was in peace.
