@@BFTBGSFTSTnot true. I knew at least one teacher I had my first semester of high school that absolutely loved being a teacher. He was a brain surgeon among other high paying jobs (I can't remember them since it's been so long and he only talked about it on rare occasions), and he said being a teacher was his favorite. He just wanted to help the young and upcoming generations grow, and he thrived off of our success. He was more proud of us than any of our parents honestly. Unfortunately, he spent time in Africa when he was 18, contracted malaria, and he suffered from seizures for the rest of his life. He died in 2020 from the effects of malaria. He was only 42 I believe. Rip Mr. Lilly, tell me how you feel!

Monster is probably the best term. I have never understood the mentality of not reporting criminality in the military. Generally, no matter where you are they will overlook whatever minor thing you did to get at the greater crime at hand.

As crazy as this sounds, my instructor (who was a paramedic on a Cruise Line) told us that some people go on a cruise with a DNR (do not resuscitate) to die on a cruise as they would rather die in “paradise” than a miserable state like New York or something. Each Cruise ship also has a morgue that can hold up to at least 5 people depending on the size of the ship. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

The Sewol Ferry disaster was a national tragedy for Koreans. We witnessed video evidence of the captain running away first and foremost. He and a couple crew told those kids to stay in their cabins, knowing they would die. A couple (to be married) who were workers and a 19 year old cook rescued some of the children and kept fighting to save as many as they could before they went back in and drowned, trying to rescue more. Students who did survive (very few did) recalled telling the young cook to put on a life vest and to get out herself. She was said to have said "I will be okay. It is my job to make sure all of you get out before me. Just one more. I promise. I will save just 1 more and then 1 more and then 1 more after that." They became posthumously rewarded and regarded as the heroes of the Sewol Ferry Disaster. The students were on a field trip and were supposed to be on a different ship but they were switched last minute after arrival of the students. They were finding bodies for months. Some of students hugging their best friends etc... a father who's daughters body hadn't been found yet famously starved himself and refused to eat until his daughter was found. This is one of the saddest things in our history that caused such an uproar for years. Still remember when it happened. God bless the heroes that gave their lives to save who they could, and damn that captain to Hell. He also tried to appeal and they were like lol nah. But they reduced the sentences of some of the crew that fled because some of the crew were literally brand new and had no idea what was going on.

Fuck that Captian, its one thing being a total coward, another thing entirely to tell the kids to stay in their rooms, I would have been like "FUCK THAT" I need access to the ocean, not a fucking coffin. Absolutely heart wrenching to look at some of those texts the kids were sending to their parents.

The Sewol ferry disaster is so tragic. I watched some of the videos filmed by the students on board while they were waiting. They were all so young. They were joking around, they thought they'd be saved, they thought it was all going to be fine because they were all told to stay calm and in their rooms. And now theyre all dead. Many children had broken fingers and hands from trying to break the windows etc. later on. It always gives me shivers and always makes me so incredibly angry and sad because they had HOURS to save them. They could've all survived.

Would a simple Internet search or check the label on the meds to prevent this? If you're not sure, just consult someone! We had a medical technician on an LNG ship I was on, and he talked via radio to the doctor on land! There are predetermined steps what to do in cases like that! And if the situation requires, the ship HAS to make a detour to a closest port or call a helicopter in the worst situation! But a lot depends on a company, and many choose to sail under flags of countries that have poor security codes! The only solution is banning passage and docking in regulated countries, but if there's no global consensus, this will keep happening

I'm surprised he didn't get to the more gruesome details about the Sewell incident. Some details below: 1) South Korean government told families of the children that they were safe, despite the parents being on the phones with their children as they drown. (SK Coast Guard had since been disbanded and rebuilt from the ground up). 2) SK Coast Guard just stood on their boats, watching as teenagers banged on the windows, asking them to help get them out. 3) A US Carrier was in the area. SK Coast Guard refused to allow the US to assist in recovery efforts 4) A boy and girl's body were found tied together at the wrist. It was confirmed they were dating and had decided to tie their wrists so they wouldn't be separated even in death. 5) One student recorded his will as a joke. One the phone was returned to his father, the father felt it was important people knew what happened. (two students running by hand in hand in terror in the background may be the couple from number 4.) 6) A small child survived when the rest of her family couldn't get out alive. She was bullied through the reset of her education for that. 7)SK Coast Guard finally approved divers to go in to look for potential survivors in air pockets. The divers called off the dive as SK Coast Guard members kept trying to mess with their equipment to pose for pictures, making the dive unsafe. The SK Coast Guard was clearly more interested in publicity than the lives of children. 8) The owner of the ferry, when he was found, he was dressed like a hobo. It's believed that he felt so guilty for the deaths of the kids that he abandoned his fortunes and lived in destitution until he died. 9) The politicians that tried to cover up the tragedy were ultimately pardoned. The next president of SK was able to get his votes by promising to pardon the former SK president. One final note: The school the teens attended had a new school built. It was decided that the old school building would be turned into a memorial. The locations where each deceased student(teacher) sat features a student's(or teacher's) desk with the picture of the deceased, as well as several personal items donated by the families. When visiting, it's said you can hear a pin drop because it's so quiet. One of the few students to survive has since become a politician, hoping to correct much of the government's corruption that lead to the death of so many.

*The Sewol Ferry in South Korea wasn't a cruise* but it shipped cars and ppl to and from islands. The kids were HSers going on an end of year trip to an island near Jeju Island (theyre super big tourist destinations). The ferry went over capacity to make more money. The crew didnt announce to the passengers they were sinking, they alerted coast guard and told the kids to stay put than abandoned the ship telling the CG there was no one else on board. The Blue House (SKs White house) wouldnt let divers enter the water until a LONG time after the ferry went down, thats why fishing boats came to save the kids and teachers. The Coast Guard rescue workers were joking and eating while the parents cried and begged for news of their children. The parents even tried to dive into the water or steal boats to save their kids. It was so sad. The President of SK ended up resigning from the backlash as well as other officials after the tragedy along with the many arrests. Even sadder, U.S. marines with many experienced divers were nearby on ships from Japanese bases and were willing and ready to help, but South Korea refused to let them into SK waters. Many kids were pulled from the wreckage still clinging to each other, kids called their parents saying goodbye (1 boys begged his parents to never let his brother go on a school trip) and teachers sacrificed themselves to give kids their spots on boats. Many of the divers that went in after it sunk fully got PTSD or injured from how the unsafe working conditions. Theres a lot of accounts of kids screaming and banging on the ferry begging to get the Coast Guard ships closer to rescue them, and they just watched them drown. To this day, parents haven't gotten a clear answer on the full account of details of what happened to their children. The parents recently had a hunger strike outside a government office to protest the lack of transparency and streamers (known as nuisance streamers in Asia, people who are mean in public for fun and record it) went and filmed themselves eating in front of the parents while they were hunger striking. Some parents still have no bodies to bury or info on their child. Its heart breaking. (Edit: dyslexia)

@@disposable_income_andy You're a smart cookie; transport of cars is how most these ferry's make most their money so they would go over legal capacity. Cars would be put over safety lines and held in by weak link chains. the ferry tipped cause they didn't have enough water in the bow to evenly distribute the beyond maxed out weight capacity, which is what caused the listing. For people who go overboard, it's got to be especially scary because those ships move extremely fast. I couldn't imagine being stuck in the icy abyss, watching my only salvation disappear over the horizon leaving silence and dread as my only companions during my final moments alive. I have never been on a cruise and will never go on a cruise. It started as a financial thing because I would never pay that kind of money for a psuedo-vacation. As I get older, I become more confident in my decision to not go on cruises because of all the reasons Hunter went over in this video. That and it just seems like a miserable time stuck in the middle of a terrifying void, surrounded by drunks and with nothing to do.

being an introverted kid on a cruise ship was so much stress, yeah I got to see some nice places, but so many hours just doing nothing in my room hiding, looking off into sea. I remember one night the waves were so bad they closed areas where alot of things were moving around, watched a performance that night where the performers could barely stand, and I remember some girl threw up and it just watching it swish back and forth across the floor for 15 minutes while waiting for the restaurant to reopen. Saw some nice places but never will get over the fear of the practice evacuation, the nothingness in the distance, people running down the halls at night, and fear of the ship leaving while we were exploring. I think the worst was where we had to spend numerous days at sea and I was bored out of my mind, hadn't seen land for days, was getting kind of claustrophobic.

Spent a total of a year and six months of my life on an aircraft carrier. I'm good on the going back on a ship as a "vacation". I'll never forget one night after finishing the 12-13 day shift. I just finished showering and was brushing my teeth prior to going to sleep. Right on the other side of the sink area, the toilets were overflowing sewage like fountains (our berthing's bathroom had a lot of plumming issues during that deployment.) and all of it had been pooling on the floor, only being seperated from the hallway and the sinks by like 5-6" of the hatch opening (doorway). I just stood there brushing my teeth while watching it slosh back and forth from the ship rocking and wondered maybe the student debt wouldn't have been too bad.

There are some details I omitted to keep it short. I know someone who went on a cruise. He is a diabetic, and didn't watch his sugar. He kept getting beer (when the family told the servers to not give him any more) and went into a diabetic coma. The ship didn't have the medical knowledge/equipment/or whatever, to handle it (charged them $4,000 for 1 hour in their medical bay.) Then dropped him off in Colombia to the the nearest hospital, and continued the cruise leaving him there. The crew would not let the family leave the ship. It took several days back to the States, and the hospital was able to get him under control and out of a coma. They then wouldn't release him without being paid, So the family had to signed a promissory note to the cruise liner (total was ridiculous I do not remember amount) and hospital in Colombia (which was well over $10,000,) and then bought him a one way plane ticket from Colombia to the States. Needless to say. I will never consider a cruise for a vacation. Stay safe out there y'all.

My family never had a lot of money, but we had a lot of kids, so my dad would dump his income taxes into a carnival cruise to the Bahamas (the cheapest voyage) every year and we wouldn’t buy anything extra. We got the standard No balcony no window 5 feet of space cabin, and we watched other people do excursions, and it was always unironically a great time, we were really having the time of our lives. I never developed a fear of them until I was older and becoming a less ignorant adult made me paranoid, but honestly I don’t think it’ll stop me from going on them. Y’all don’t understand, Guy Fieri’s burger joint wasn’t just 24 hours, it was included in the trip payment, so you never had to pay for it, and it wasn’t the only 24 hour restaurant there, so you got a decent variety. There’s just something magical about not feeling the financial burden when getting food, I will gladly risk my life and mental sanity for a week of that again lol.

I would use my housing allowance i got from the military every month i was in college to save for a cruise. carnival cruises were cheaper then flight tickets+ hotels cost, I also gambled a little in the casino so my rooms became free with carnival just had to pay taxes on the room. You can't beat the price they give you to travel to 3 different islands in 7 days, I would sneak on liquor on my luggage so I didn't have to buy drinks. Always had the time of my life with friends or people i met on the ship. I was paying about 400-500 dollars total for 2 people 7 day cruise. I lived 1 hour from a cruise port so didn't have to pay for any plane ticket. I've been on about 60 nights worth of cruising. Got 1 more planned because of the newest ship carnival built the jubilee.

I said this elsewhere BUT The Sewol ferry in South Korea wasn't a cruise, but it shipped cars and ppl to and from islands. The kids were HSers going on an end of year trip to an island near Jeju Island (ots a super big tourist destination). The went over capacity, didnt announce they were sinking and told the kids to stay put and abandoned the ship. The blue house (SKs White house) wouldnt let divers enter the water until a LONG time after the ferry went down. The coast guard rescue workers were joking and eating while the parents cried and begged for news of their children. The parents even tried to dive into the water or steal boats to save their kids. The president ended up resigning from the backlash as well as other officials after the tragedy. Even sadders, U.S. marines were nearby on ahips willing and ready to help, and Suth Korea refused to let them into SK waters. Amny kids were pulled from the wreckage clinging to each other, and many of the divers got PTSD from how bad it was. Junior officer here, the reason so many deaths are reported onboard ships is a result of the average age of guests. In some cases its cheaper to do back to back cruises with us, then pay rent. Few suicides as well, it's not a job i would recommend to everyone. Stay away from larger cruises, if you want to enjoy yourself, go for adult only cruises and go for a vessel that has a maximum capacity of around 1200. High capacity ships and kids are not a fun experience. Also, sea days. The ship is a fancy taxi, its nice to enjoy its features but ideally you are there to see the world. If you can help it, avoid trips with sea days. You can spend 7 days going around Croatia, never spending a full day onboard the ship outside of sleeping and dining

This is an increase from 87 in 2022 and 101 in 2019. The FBI also notes that sexual assault is the top reported and investigated crime at sea. The US Department of Transportation says that 79% of all crimes reported onboard cruise ships are sexual assaults. 12 million people go on cruise ships a year so... its really realllllyy unlikely

Another horror of cruise ships that wasn't mentioned was cruise ships often have their registries in countries like Panama or Liberia. It's mostly done for tax reasons, but it also means that if anything happens on the ship, it's handled by country of registry which may be lax when it comes to law enforcement as well as crew might not be as vetted as they would with a ship registered to the US or UK.

I went on a cruise line once and I'm a huge recluse and had never seen the ocean before. I was drunk all the time and had access to all the free food and drinks that I wanted. I never saw any fighting, everyone seemed pretty relaxed. The KEY TO FINDING A GOOD CRUISE SHIP is by selecting the ship that caters mostly to people over the age 40. It'll be mostly older people who just wanna relax. Norwegian for example isn't that bad, just be sure to get one of the bigger rooms, which cost more. These major horrors are not an everyday thing on cruise ships but when they DO happen...it can get bad.

I definitely was not fond of going on a cruise ship (Carnival) and I only did it for my family, but I was pleasantly surprised. I went into it already pretty down troughted and I felt pretty awful the first two days of which I spent just walking around and observing all the places on it. My least favorite things were how hot it was at night of which I can only sleep in the cool with a blanket and that the fact the wifi even the most expensive did not work too well; regardless, the Wifi did not bother me too much as the TV selection was pretty good and I prepared for that. My favorite things on the boat were the endless free food, playing blackjack, and just how nice the workers were. Half Moon Cay was so beautiful despite it heavily raining. The water was so clear and warm and the sand was white. The Bahamas was okay. It is my first out of country experience and I spent most of the time there walking around in the blistering heat, but I still really enjoyed the experience of a different place even if the part I was at was heavily influenced by Western culture. My most memorable moments were just being alone and observing the waters, the surprisingly pretty interior of the boat, and just thinking in considerably my worst period mentally. It's an experience I think about often and I consider going on another one as the isolation despite the density of our floating island is a therapeutic sorrow. I don't think I'd suggest going on one because of many of the points Papa Meat bring up, but there is something about looking at the sheer endless leviathan that is the ocean knowing you are stuck there.

Even if the vessel notices a MOB and tries to immediately manueveur to save them, using the Williamson turn takes approximately 10 minutes in the absolute most ideal situations. Pair that with search and rescue responses that require timely coordination from the crew and cruise shops dont always have the best rescue boat cranes/davits. Your chances of being saved in a MOB are slim to none. As someone who did nautical navigation in the Arctic, I would not recommend taking your chances with cruise ships. Not to mention that rates of pay are atrocious, some cadets will only receive as much as 50 dollars a day as their pay (so consider how motivated those people are to actually saving you or serving you).

Lesson 1 from the navy. Don't lean on the rails or just get to close to the side in general. Also the story about the navy guy at the brothel, that's a very regular issue.

I get abdominal migraines so if I go to the ER for it, that shot of promethazine is one that I have to get. I audibly gasped when you said the “doctor” gave it to him by iv. 100% gave him a bolus, which you do not ever do with promethazine. Even in my hip it burns for a good 5 minutes that man probably felt like his arm was on fire.

papa meat, i’m sure others have mentioned about being in the navy, my experience was 4.5 years on a destroyer and ~3.5 years at sea. been on missions searching for overboard people and the statistic is if they can’t get to you in about the first 10 minutes you’re dead. without bringing up too much information, when we were out one time there was a fellow navy ship cruising with us and we had just finished replenishing at sea. there was an individual on that ship that was in trouble with the law on the beach. so he jumped ship, i believe, wearing ankle weights (rumor has it) right in front of some sailors. he treaded water for some time while while both ships deployed rescue swimmers. they could not get to him before he gave up and disappeared into the drink. i was in a visit, board, search, and seizure school in virginia and one of the dudes in my squad was the rescue swimmer that went to get him. he said the waves were 10ft and he reached the top of the wave, saw the dude, dipped and came back up and he was gone. looked down in the water and watched him disappear into black. there are other crazy stories from my sailing past. but i’ll never get on a cruise ship.

Well the reality is it is mostly just empty space, yeah there's things living in it but depending on location you'd be hard pressed to find sea life in a lot of places.

I went on my first cruise this past February. It was the Emo's Not Dead cruise hosted by Sixthman on Norwegian. It was honestly one of the best vacations I've been on. There were multiple concerts happening from 10 am to 9 pm so there was never a shortage of anything to do. I'm actually going again this upcoming February. I have heard horror stories like these, but my experience was great!

Surprising there weren't poop-stains off balcony-railings where passengers relieved themselves overboard; I'd expect someone to set fire somewhere critical prompting relief vessels to evacuate ticket-holders.

I was on that poop ship. Not the specific trip that had those issues, but the same ship. I went on thr cruise last year (2024). I had no issues in terms of sanitization or dangerous drunkards, I had a wonderful time. I did however quickly feel the fatigue living on the ship. I was ready to go home come the 7th day.

Once when my family and I went on a cruise for vacation, one of the cruise destinations was some place in Mexico, and we enjoyed it. But when we were heading back to the cruise through some market area, there was a guy telling me to come over to him. Being a little kid, I complied, after which he asked me what my name is. After I told him, he suddenly tied a bracelet to my arm without asking with my name on it, and made my parents pay $20 for it. $20 for a crappy string bracelet.

@papaMeat I worked for Carnival for many years, so did my sister. She was working on the Triumph when that happened - you actually have her in this video at 7:30 which was hilarious to see. She was one of six crewmembers who were on *both* ships that caught fire, and for whatever reason she went back for like three more contracts. Nutcase.

This video just confirms my bias that being on a giant germ factory that costs way too much is not worth it. The risk of being stranded or dead is too high. I have never gotten the appeal if you want to go to multiple places just travel to them, don't do it via a giant vessel that is full of people that moves on top of something that is also trying to kill you.
