It itself wasn't a true story, but it is based on a novel written by a WW1 veteran (Erich M. Remarque), who combined his own experiences and the experiences of other German soldiers into one single story as a form of collective memory. So the story might not be real, but the things happening in the book did happen.

Well, except for much of the ending of the movie,, which not only moves away from the perspective of the soldiers and completely misses the meaning of the title of the book, but is also historically questionable.

@@ohauss That is, why I wrote "based" on a novel. And yes, I know, it was the Allies fighting till the last few minutes.

That is what I thought, a bunch of different true stories bundled together 🤔 I think the book itself must be quite interesting. I once read a book with a lot of different experiences of British soldiers during WWI called "Tommy goes to War", quite good and interesting

If that kind of last minute attack never happened from the german side I agree with you that the movie is a bit historically questionable 😬 I think the scenes with the signing of the armistice were interesting though. The meaning of the title does get a bit lost in the movie yeah

@@ptthatswhatshesaid The book itself is really great...Especially, because it also highlights how the boys were recruited in the school, and how it feels coming home for a vacation...It gives many more details about living in the trenches and the aristrocratic society. But I have to say, the 2022 version is doing a good job at least keeping the spirit of the book.

In my opinion, dubbing ruines a part of the actors performances. And the authenticity of course!

That was always a hindrance.Throughout this whole conflict was many of the generals were still stuck in the 1800s.When it came to tactics they were trying to fight battles The same way they had fought them for centuries with modern weapons like the machine gun and the airplane.

Great movie and great reaction. Yes, they did receive at least six weeks of training and it shows in the first movie. It doesn’t show in this one, but they don’t just send them out without any training even at this time.

Ok 🫡 it makes sense. Still, not even near enough what would be needed. It seems they were just eager to put ANYONE on the front line 😬 it seems to me that most of them were just used to what we here call "carne para canhão" (literally meat for cannons).

Most famous German (war) movie Das Boot(1982) Information: Erich Marie Remarque (22.6.1889 as Erich Paul Remarque in my hometown osnabrück (mostly famous for the Battle teutoburg forest, Footballclub, end of 30years war)) was in 1 worldwar. Quiet Western Front he wrote about His experiences as soldier and from Others. The book is best sold German book. A serbian Guy Shot austria-hungary Prince. They started war and called theire Allies. Thats how war began. Germany was very succesful but then had to Fight against many enemies on many fronts and Situation was getting worse so decided to search for Peace. The Last Attack was six hours before end by USA. Last soldier died under Special circumstances two minutes before end. On real Videos you can hear firing slowly ending at the end Like Thunderstrom. Germany paid a high price. Country was in Bad conditions after war so people wanted New Leaders and to make country great again. Nationalism grow and there was a New Leader you maybe have Heard of calledhitler in 1933
