I do the horse stance since 1 month now. I went from 1:30 to 5:00. Maybe it was more easy for me than most people because I really focus on the breathing as I did a lot of meditation, and it really helps. I do it every morning, excellent way of starting the day. Now I add up 1 to 5 seconds every day. I did 5:20 today. My rule is to increase at least 1 second each day, so that there is progress every day. I advise you to do it every day and with process guys and focus mainly on the breathing and position. Another secret is to mentally accept the pain and embrace it. But it is hard to explain, you have to feel it.

My 2nd Kung fu teacher kept students in only horse stance for 3-5 years depending on the corrections necessary for each student to perform the stance correctly. This was followed by advanced stance training mostly done with 100% weight in 1 leg. After 3 years could hold indefinitely. My longest was 3 hours at my teachers house. My trick for advancing quickly was to hold horse stance whenever I ate, watched tv or read.

There is no "max" There's only what your mind is telling you to do. If you let your mind control your actions, you won't ever get too far. You HAVE to keep holding it , hold it until you ACTUALLY can't. Keep going until your knees are collapsing . I agree very much with this guy saying "don't think about the pain" i went from 4 minutes to 8 minutes because i learned to not think about the pain, move your mind to something else and even at 5 , 6 minutes i thought the pain wasn't that bad and at 8 minutes , thighs just gave in . So literally just don't think about the pain, i worked my way up to 4 minutes in about 8 months, and as soon as i learned to calm down during pain i went from 4-8 minutes.

I first thought it was a nightmare to get over 2 minutes, but after one week i did 3 minutes and in a month considering this pandemic stupid scary inflicted period I got up to 9 minutes in 2 months. Some tip to get that fast is to have a shaolin closer diet, so no meat or very little, and no diary cause if do, in less than 2 minutes in this stance in the muscles will accumulate lactic acid that is the stabbing pain that starts and expands after less than 3 minutes even on trained body. And another small secret is to relax and eventually watch something interesting on the net or tv, I trained then and sometimes when I watch I still do train with the timer on a MMA round that is exactly 5 minutes! ;)
