Finally someone shows me how to paint that cool blue color for Alpha Legion, I have always preferred that to the brighter greenish color.
@yagsipcc2872 жыл бұрын
I personlly find the best way to use contrast in an airbrush is thin it down a bit (depending on the strenght of the colour of course) do light sprays on one side then the other and let it dry, and do several super thin layers it is still fast as hell though. But these turned out really well. I am doing my guys up as Word Bearers.

Also that metal blue paint is a banger!!

I've just got my hands on some Contrast medium so looking forward to trying it out! Think the thinner I was using was making it all gummy
@yagsipcc2872 жыл бұрын
@@hobbywitholi It should work fine with normal acrylic thinner or a little water. Might be the brand as well that sometimes happens as well. But damn I do love that Blue Metal

I prime my Alpha Legion gold and overbrush silvers like a zenithal... so the 50/50 mix of Aethermatic Blue and Akhelian Green appears blue from the top and dark green in the recesses and at the bottom. Try it... I think it's awesome. Only took me five years to find a method to get the effect I want.

@@hobbywitholi Painting Alpha Legion models is so freakishly hard. Before contrast paints it was nearly impossible without an air brush... so everybody who tries to paint the coolest minis in the Heresy has to experiment a lot and finally finds a way he or she is happy with... hopefully. :-D

That blue came out really well in the end-- I've had problems with contrast through the airbrush too, coming out really speckly on my emperor's children with Luxion purple-- I had better luck with proacryl royal purple but over white it came out a bit blotchy on my land raider--- I think I need to do lighter passes and wait for each coat to dry. Did you get the new battle group boxset out of interest?
@rhysgardiner59202 жыл бұрын
hi guys love the video, you mentioned that the contrast paints are no the easiest to use for that alpha legion blue. I thought I should share the method I found that works fantastically for alpha legion. First, thin down some GW soulstone blue technical paint 50/50 with gw thinner, then blast this in thin layers through an airbrush over a leadbelcher base with stormhost silver zenithal highlights. hope this helps anyone struggling with the contrast paints.
@hobbywitholi2 жыл бұрын
This sounds waaaaay better! Cheers Rhys
@rhysgardiner59202 жыл бұрын
@@hobbywitholi happy to help, if you require any further info on the method just let me know. I know alpha legion can be very tricky but this makes them easy and look just like forge worlds own paint scheme, my local GW has even started using this method as the default example for people to paint alpha legion

Cool video, army looks really great. Also 100% agree about the cape, why was it designed like that?🤣. I’ve also had the same issue with contrast through an airbrush and I found that thinner was the culprit, now I use it without thinner on a higher pressure sprayed from further away and that seems to help.
@hobbywitholi2 жыл бұрын
Ahaaaa good to know, I may have to do some more experiments with it then!

Love this video format, satisfying to watch! I think your airbrush problems just come from opening up a little too much on the trigger, the paint is pooling on the surfaces instead of creating thin filters.
@hobbywitholi2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip, I think this and the mixing with airbrush thinner was probably to blame...

This hurt my brain to watch... When you're airbrushing contrast paints, or any sort of inks/clear coat paints DO NOT do what this guy did, and try to get everything painted in one coat with an airbrush!! Instead, do one quick pass, move on to the next, do one quick pass, move on to the next, and then rinse and repeat. You want to 'work' the color up with multiple passes with the airbrush, so that you are giving each coat ample amount of time to dry, prior to adding another coat.
@hobbywitholi2 жыл бұрын
Hi Geteav, the editing may make it look like this but I can assure you I went with 2 thin coats of the contrast paint 😀 appreciate your comment

why don't people wear gloves when airbrushing? WHY?!?!?!
@hobbywitholi2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, so for me I don't really mind getting the paint on my hands, not using any oil or enamel paints at the mo so nothing too toxic. Totally respect people who want to wear the gloves but to be honest the reason I don't wear them is it just doesn't matter that much to me!
