Love it! As I've said before .. I've been quilting for over 40 years and I still learn something new every time I watch one of your tutorials. Thank you for being such a real person .. it's like spending time with an old friend sharing something we love. *I'd rather be stitchin' than in the kitchen*

I should have watched the pinwheel video again before I asked the question. Thank you for your reply and for teaching me how to quilt. I have gotten the bug and love to sew now. You have the best teaching videos around! I love that you make it so simple for us beginners because otherwise I would have been too intimidated to start quilting.

This block works great as an alternate block with any other block the same size. The triangles frame the block. Great idea to use layer cakes. Less cutting and they really do come out to be close to the same price as yardage. My time is worth the tiny difference.

A big THANK YOU to Jennie Doan for making these videos. I have been referring to your videos ever since my quilt guild started making a "Row by Row" quilt a few months ago. It's one thing to see the demonstration at meeting but another to be able to stop/pause and restart a video of a particular technique. In today's case, it gave me a choice to make the hourglass block an entirely different way than I first learned. I'm glad I found Jennie's technique; it was faster and easier and my fabric didn't end up having the corners chewed up in my sewing machine ;) THANKS Jennie :)

I'm not sure how or why but this assembly method makes the most perfect, crips points in the center of each block. Maybe because I was using flannel, and the "nesting" was easier. I loved how this came out! Thank you so much!

I had made a quilt for the envelope quilt and had a ton of leftovers. So I thought of a border, but trust me I did not like the look. Took off the border, I, thankfully, had only sewn one on, and took it all apart and now I am using those "hour glass" blocks to make a baby quilt!!! I will still have 26 blocks left - but I will find another use I am sure. Thanks for all of the wonderful lessons!! I am and have learned lots for you!! Jan K AL

Yet another great tutorial. This had me puzzled at first about why you didn't just sew around all 4 edges of the original 2 10" blocks and then cut it apart into an "X" to make your half-square triangles. (I learned that technique from you a few videos back and I'm enamored with it, LOL.) But, is it that the way you showed here gives you the alternating pattern and saves another step? I'm not an orange person, but I sure loved the lavender and pink fabric with touches of green in the samples.
