CLIP DESCRIPTION:
During the auction, the house floods and collapses.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Gore Verbinski, the TV-commercials director responsible for the Budweiser frogs, directed this Adam Rifkin screenplay about two brothers (Nathan Lane and Lee Evans) who inherit a string factory and a decaying country home after the death of their father (the late William Hickey, in his last role). After moving in, they learn that the house has historical architectural importance and is valued in the millions. However, they are constantly tormented by a mouse within the walls. They engage in cartoon-like combat against the rodent, but it manages to outwit the brothers in successive situations. Both live and animatronic mice portray the title role, and some scenes assume the mouse's point of view. The film is dedicated to William Hickey.
CREDITS:

By this point they didn't have to worry about the mouse. I'm surprised Ernie didn't say "forget it, as soon as the auction is over we're taking the check and leaving. The mouse isn't our problem anymore." Then I thought maybe they took it personally when he ate Pop's lucky string.

I thought that too. I guess you could rationalize they were worried if anyone saw the mouse they'd think the house was infested with them or something and wouldn't want to buy it anymore

that was the whole point of Ernie wanting the mouse dead, he wanted to avoid a repeat of a cockroach coming out of the cuban cigars he got from his dead father, which resulted in the mayor dying of a fatal heart attack in his restaurant causing Ernie to be sued of health violations and losing his restaurant. Ernie even says it himself when he prepares the first mouse trap Lars: it's just a mouse, do we have to kill it? Ernie: listen to me, a single vermin can bring you down, believe me.@@Dullfang2

I'd always get confused on how Ernie suddenly got covered in ripped pieces of paper at 1:35 until I came across deleted scenes. Apparently that check for $10 million survived the flood in which Ernie noticed and was about to take it until the wealthy man got it first and ripped it in front of him.

This is movie making at it's BEST. This Auction Scene was so well written, choreographed, filmed and music. It was absolutely perfect. The building up of tension within the actual auction and the music building with the water crashing towards the Mouse. This is movie making magic, there are very very very few films where a particular scene is just perfect. The other scenes quite like this is M's speech scene in court in Skyfall. The music, editing was just so good! Even though Skyfall was boring as hell but that's not the point :) Love Mousehunt.

Alex D , awesome how there are some people that pay attention to those details in movies, scenery, editing of shots, AND EVEN THE MUSIC. For Me, like you said, "movie making at its best" , because of said details, is one of few reasons why I would like to be an actor. hopefully make a scene or scenes with the "movie making at its best" details, how you put it bro(and I agree!) , hear an audience react, and feel damn proud that I was in the scene!

Over and Over and Over. Refill and here we go again. Oh, and when the plastic doesn't open right when the knife is put to it, the guy controlling the water to make it look right gets stuck in the opening.

If you really think about it, they’re money problems would’ve been solved much earlier if they would’ve sold it right away to that one bidder named Falko. He said earlier, way before the auction, that he was willing to pay anything for the house, since he was a fan of the architect who designed the house. Even if the amount of money they would’ve been given wouldn’t have been 25 million, they still would’ve been set for life with the amount he was offering, which was 10 million. And at that time, he told the brothers that he had never paid more than that amount for a house in his life.

how long do real auctions really last how many hours does it take to complete the auction before the item goes to the winning bidder
@ARedMagicMarker
@ARedMagicMarker 7 жыл бұрын
It's depending on the item(s) in question and how many people are at the auction and who has the most to spend there. There are "casual" auctions and there are the "fancy" auctions. I've been to auctions that lasted as short as 10 minutes. The longest auction that I've ever been to lasted three and a half hours. The auctioneer is the one that sets the prices and there are always "ringers" in the audience that are specifically hired to always one-up someone's highest bid to inch the people to go higher. Once the high rollers start bringing out the big bucks and all the small fry settle down, the ringers usually back off a bit. Once your bid on the item is final (and trust me, it's final, no getting out of it), you automatically become the owner. On the spot. Items and any documents or deeds are given to you on site along with a handshake and a congratulations. The money goes to the sellers automatically as well. (Though there may be auction fees to pay.) E-auctions are bit different though. In this case, even if the house was destroyed RIGHT AFTER the gavel came down and the auctioneer said "sold", the rich Larue-collector dude would have to still pay the Muntz brothers because it was then automatically his property. There might have been an investigation of the house to see if the brothers didn't just know the house was damaged or hazardous all along or tried to scam people with knowingly damaged goods. However, I'am sure the famous, coveted collector-house was searched and inspected from top to bottom before hand.
