Wonderful reading of a timeless poem that “unwraps” Christmas . “Unwrap Christmas wherever you are Walk safely together and follow that star”

I love Chesterton but have read very little of his poetry. This is a good reminder of the treasure that is in store for me there! Hearing this one has inspired me to write a bit on the same theme: The fox has its den and the bird has its nest but we will only find our rest with the one who wanders the wilderness. Our refuge is with the refugee who flees in vulnerability from Herod’s heartless cruelty. Emmanuel, a homeless man is scattered like a grain of sand, while our home is in his open hand. There is no room in the Inn for him and there is no rest in a room for us until we find our peace in him and honour him with all our trust.

I have just found this, by Peter Faulkner, written in 1994 as part of an introduction to a volume of GKC's poems. "Although the publication of his poems occurred in the years when Ezra Pound and ... T.S.Eliot were revolutionising the practice of poetry in England by moving away from regular rhythms towards a free verse that would produce subtler and more sophisticated results, Chesterton practised a kind of poetry which paid not the slightest attention to Modernism." As I said earlier, thank goodness for that!

Thanks for your great Vids, mate.. I've just discovered 'em. I'll be binge viewing 'em over the next few hours. Have a great trip over the pond. God bless from a Yorkshire lad. A little poem of mine for all thinkers into the new year... Out with the Old, in with the New. This plated curving edge of year - spun thin - with a solstice end, high blown in this the lowly season - a prayer belatedly sung - plays out meagre signs from the snows blown as beautified whites - as all turns to icy flows of grey - unendurable these past scenes of the street - though - yellowed by its lights and fancies of past weak and stronger deeds - of seeds sown in belief in annual hopes of delight - a potent and heady song to come in light and relief. Steps to take and doors to unlock - a future with an open heart to endure one more time - one more tune - a year - an endurance forever believed, as each week extends to creep into lengthening stretching years - old now, turning young - experiences torpidly seen, as though reviewed to redo and regain anew their revisable charms - fortified as so, for the foray, under smoke filled forensic eyes - the duty bounds, to make anew - tho' we the cowardly, it seems, retain the oldest of mortal coils, and its deadliest sins of yesteryear. Author: Tony Wrigglesworth.

Thank goodness that poetry did 'not' change for ever after TSE; otherwise, we would no longer be reading your fine creations, and that would be our loss. Thank you for reading this to us; I had not heard of it before.

I am simply referring to the fact that there are a large number of refugees in the world now, as there were in the time of Christ.

@@MalcolmGuitespell Thank you for the clarification. At first I thought you were asserting that they the Holy Family were homeless illegal aliens living in poverty, which they weren't.
