That clarinet growl is amazing!
@MauriatOttolink6 жыл бұрын
Jack Daniels. I admire that growl as well but how does she do ii? Men do it by literally growling down the clrt (or sax) because their vocal chords took a giant hormonal leap south at the time when their beards of the future had just appeared. Doreen, lady that she clearly is, MUST rattle that poor reed (Christ..What it really has to put up with!) using a rasping TONGUE technique. Astounding.. From a Limey reed player who played with Gerry Pekinto on Decatur Street,, N.O at The Crescent City Brewery in 2000, Google...LIMEY and Mauriat Ottolink!
@rickyritardo3 жыл бұрын
@@MauriatOttolink That exotic 'growl' is not a growl at all. What it is is what we call a 'flutter' tongue. Basically, if you can roll your r's when speaking Spanish, or a similar romance language, then you are almost ready to master the flutter tongue technique. It does take some practice, and you normally just see this with sax players. There is also a technique call growling that sax players use that does involve humming into the sax as you play it. I find the flutter tongue easier than growling, but it's a matter of experimenting and practicing.

No one but other musicians will truly understand how much talent this woman has. To hold that upper octave embouchure for that length of time and maintain the clarity and steady reverberation.... oh man. They clap because it's cool. I cry because it's magic. Love you Miss Dorene. You're a gift.

It goes without saying that Doreen Ketchens is a world class musician, but my man on Souza also playing kit!?! That must be exhausting and the tone he manages to get out of, what looks like a fiberglass or plastic bodied sousaphone, is wonderful. That's one way to make sure your bass and drums are in perfect time😉

When I played trumpet as a child I was taught a technique called circular breathing where you use the air in your mouth to play while breathing in through your nose. I'd imagine it's roughly the same for clarinet, maybe a bit more difficult.

@mongoharry5 жыл бұрын
you don't need to tune your guitar if you like the way it sounds, asshole.
@duncancarr3 жыл бұрын
@ZBop unfortunately not really the way it works.... in a band, all members should be tuned TOGETHER.. now there are groups that love to COLLECTIVELY tune their instruments down a step, or up a step, but they are all in tune with each other and they are still on actual named notes. In this instance because the guitar player was out of tune with the other players, it doesn't work. period.

This must have recorded in the freezing depths of a bleak New Orleans winter. Poor old Doreen was well-dressed for the Arctic weather in a Ruskie fur hat and a quilted padded jacket. Great stuff D. Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to get thru' any of that fabulous stuff without your goldurned teeth a-chatterin' like a beaver building a dam on Ponchatrain!
