This is such an atmospheric story, made even better by the stellar narration. Was the author an Irish man I wonder? Kate's cottage reminds me of my great grans. She lived in a tiny cottage in the hills in N Wales. She was as tough as nails, got water from a hand pump and had no electricity. After greatgrandad died, she carried on living there, caring for a few hens and sheep well into her 80's. I burnt my hand on her Aga as a small child. Have a wonderful week.

Just started. It is gonna be good. I love how some of these old authors managed to keep their identities secret. They have the last laugh over technology and the modern age. The one time I've been to Ireland, it was to a little place called Thomastown, south of Kilkenny and north of Waterford, like in the story. On the edge of town is a small, run down old castle - small enough to have been a kind of a mansion. Half of Ireland could be described this way, I suppose, but I still can't help but wonder if Thomastown inspired the location in this tale.

Somehow, the American accent makes characters sound silly, especially when they are shouting "Go to the devil"😂 The spookiest part of the story was the backstory. It's like when you read Dumas and realise all those massacres and throwing people down wells actually happened. And then you think of how they are still actually happening in places... 😐
