I went with my father to the 2nd home game in Houston's big league history on April 11, 1962. The game was played at Colt Stadium; the opponent was the Chicago Cubs. I was only seven years-old at the time, but I have very vivid memories of the game. The excitement and electric atmosphere was unbelievable. I seem to recall that the Colts had beaten the Cubs the day before, so most were expecting them to be in no mood for any further embarrassment at the hands of the upstart Houston team. Well, Houston won again, with Turk Farrell coming in to close it out in the 9th. I don't recall the score, but once they hit the road the realities of the big leagues set in. They finished in 8th place in the NL that first season. For years I followed the team (in 65 they became the Astros and moved into the Astrodome) and labored under the love that only a devoted fan, or parent of an under-achieving child, could possess. Year after Year went by, and although we were teased by a few very good Astros teams along the way, they never made it to the top of the mountain. Now, I look in the mirror at the older man who stares back at me. Now I take my own children and grandchildren to the Astros games. I cherish these times because I, along with so many others from our generation, endured all of the hard times and the emotional rollercoaster that goes along with being a fan! I just enjoy this wonderful game and cohesive team so much. Everything comes and goes in life. The Astros won't be at the top for long. It's just the way life is! One thing is certain: this current team has finally delivered it all to their true and devoted fans. Thank you 2022 Houston Astros players and staff. It couldn't be sweeter!!

Great summary of why I think the Astros will be back in the ALCS in 23. Things you didn't mention: Lance McCullers and the infield shift going away. Our rotation will be top 3 in the AL and bats like Tucker, Bregman and Abreu will benefit HUGE from the shift going away. Our lineup will be top 3 with Tucker a legit batting title threat if he can stay healthy.
@johnnysifuentes41882 жыл бұрын
Great summary, the other item I would add to this is even though Tuve hit for .300 this year he did not have the best year himself. He slummed pretty badly in the early stages of the playoffs. I look to him to bounce back and have a better year in 23. I also think bringing Yuli back would be huge in the event we have an injury at 1st base. But it looks like he may be headed to Miami. Bummer!

2019 was a great team but their issue was is you had the bats you had the starters but when it came to relief it was a big goose egg which ultimately was 2019 Astros downfall but then over the next few years they worked on getting more starters and worked on that bullpen all the while hitting was lowered a bit as some players left the team and got older but in 2022 they had the right mix as while 2021 basically had the pieces but things were in the way such as several starters being out due to injury that ultimately made it hard to win but they did and made it to the world series that year. Also in that year Valdez while improving hadnt come into his own yet and Javier was still climbing his way up the pitching ladder. Then come to 2022 those starters came back and Valdez improved majorly with Javier coming in to be a main starter and while there was a struggle early on by mid season he had it worked out an pitched great games with two of them being no-hitters so while they did lose Verlander it is almost like Alabama a few years ago when Tua was playing as they had their two back ups which basically would have been the starter at any other school which hurts ended up doing but all 3 went on to the NFL as mostly starters so with the Astros several of the starters quite literally would be the Ace in most baseball clubs (Valdez, Javier, McCullers).
