Side note. The HU members each represent an element in the band. Gala (lead vocal, Morin Khur) is thunder, Jaya (vocals, mouth harp) is earth/wind, Enkush (vocals, morin kuhr) is fire and Temka (vocals, tovshuur) is water. Part of shamanistic beliefs of Mongolia. Very very cool!

The HU is a Mongolian Folk Metal band and they not only use Native Instruments along with the traditional ones, they also utilize Mongolian Throat Singing and their Music Videos have a style to where it's like you're watching a Martial Arts Movie or a very Eastern Fantasy Movie. Metallica is one of their biggest inspirations, so they decided to cover this classic, i honestly hope for more Metallica covers in the future, but i enjoy their other songs just fine.

Jen You noticed during this video, young man walking thru the lush green forest then he sees piece of golden nugget and digging for more. He dies without it. Young man becomes older man trying to get more golden nuggets (reincarnation) while he is ignoring the land. As video goes on, man dies and reincarnate again to live thru a horrible situation of the land. Notice the tree? It went from lush to dead tree. Nearing the end of video, older man trying to carry water in his hands (precious life force), but he cries as he drops the handful of water. The HU did this video besides being fans of Metallica due to certain people or companies ruined their country of Mongolia. Issues for their country ranges from Land Degradation to Deforestation. They wanted to world know.......

This one is a great Metallica cover with an important topic. Digging for gold (mining in general) is a big problem in Mongolia (and other places) which destroys nature and culture. I love Mongolia and its culture (they are not that wild anymore like back in the days under Dschinggis Khan ^^) they still keep theit past and culture alive without beeing super nationalists idiots ^^ I have some friends in Mongolia nd been there 3 times now. They have great music (not only the Hu) Every nomad in the steppe knows how to sing

Get this though: Mongolia is being consumed by fracking and polluting industry, and there are strong signs that this is both an awesome music cover and a traditionally-rooted response to that. 6:21 The wealth he thinks he gains digging out of the cracked, damaged land , he can't even hang onto; it's dropping out of his hands. 6:27 His soul is draining out of his body. 6:52 Their is becoming barren and polluted with an oil spill, burning away. 7:09 Really potent imagery here; that drum is culturally a focus of spiritual power, a point of contact, and it's dangerous to misuse it for greed. You're not supposed to sell it; if you do, curses will live in that drum. The shaman's showing the ancestor's concern and trying to get through to this guy who's selling his homeland for... nothing. 9:05 Wealth, life, soil, even a drink of water - he can't hold on to any of them because he traded everything important away for fool's gold. It's an awesome take on Metallica's music, huh? But it's also using it to speak to where Mongolia is at today. A lot of people there live half the year in the city, half the year in the countryside herding animals and living in yurts, and their cultural roots in Tengri shamanism invoke ancestral ties to the land. If something hurts the life there, it'll be right in their face. The song is saying, don't abuse your heritage, your home, your rivers, your ancestors, the source of your spiritual power - don't sell it, or you'll have nothing.

I am Ukrainian. The Mongol yoke entered the Ukrainian land in 1223. The Ukrainians were under the Mongol yoke for 100 years, after which the Princes of Kiev revolted and drove the Mongols from our lands. The Russians immediately surrendered to them and were under the yoke of the Mongols for 600 years, which was reflected in the modern structure of power in Russia - a brutal, merciless vertical of power to its people. When I listen to the Mongolian language and their songs (the genital memory of ancestors is in my blood) subconsciously my hand immediately looks for a sword :-)

To what I understand, the band members are presented to be gods or supernatural beings come to punish mankind for it's greed. Each of them embodies one of the four elements: air, fire, water, and earth,... though in asian tradition there are five elements: air, fire, water, wood, and metal. If you watch, in the beginning the land is lush and healthy. However, as the man searches for and finds more gold, the land becomes barren and dead. So, basically, the video is a protest/warning about the destruction of the environment in the name of greed/profit. One could even consider the lyrics to be mankind's own greed talking to them.
