This is very much like bringing technology from two years in the future to today. Surely it is expesive and only few will actually buy it. But well done by Huawei, advancing the industry to a right direction! Can’t wait to get an improved version of this in couple of years for under 1k 😍

I think it will be a matter of personal preference, not that I've seen either myself. Assuming Samsung's isn't particularly bulky when folded or something all that matters is that when unfolded it functions basically as well as a tablet, and when folded it works as a smartphone. I would guess many might feel a screen on the inside feels more secure than one one the outside. If it's not durable then it might get scratched or even broken because it's on the outside, whereas on the inside the screen is protected like the flip phones of old. Probably other features they can think of with either method. Should keep in mind these are first generation implementations, they are more like proofs of concept than actually aimed at being perfect devices yet, mostly because no one knows what the mass market will prefer or want to do with them. For one obvious thing, Samsung should include the S-Pen in future iterations.

I’ve not seen either in person but from YT visuals and reviews for me a clear problem with the Huawei is that the back of the phone is screen. Putting the phone on a surface over time will scratch the screen. For me that’s a massive design flaw. I’ll never own a folding phone as I need a waterproof/ dustproof case. Samsung’s internal screen makes much more sense. The £1500 for a phone doesn’t.

People who say "I don't need such a big screen" don't remember when the original iPhone 2G was announced, it had a tiny 3.5" LCD display. We're now rocking plus size phones or even phablets with fragile curved glass on the front and back. Once the price is right (Huawei is out chasing market share, plus Oppo/Xiaomi) we'll see mass adoption. Because unlike the Galaxy Fold, the Mate X just oozes sexiness.

Once you open it, was the screen perfectly smooth and consistent, fold mark, distortion?

I've recently built a new PC with an i9 9900k, RTX 2080 Ti, ASUS RoG Strix, etc. and it cost about as much as the Mate X.
