I think the big take away is that we now know that's rick's depression is deeply rooted in his metaphorical and literal self-loathing. He knows beyond any doubt that there is a version of himself willing to kill his own wife and child
@reaper_exd74983 жыл бұрын
I think this hatred extends to the citidel. When he found it in it's early stages he found Ricks who never appreciated their families. This could be why C137 is so attached to his Morty. Also could be that our Rick, like is suggested of Killer Rick, is a Rick from outside the central finite curve. A common theory why Rick never found Killer Rick was because Killer Rick is from the outside of the CFC. Im wondering if C137 is as well. It would explain why he is such an oddity compared to the other Ricks. It would also explain his own levels of introspection that seem lacking in all the other Ricks. Just my opinion though. Who knows.

I took the reveal to mean that he'll never find him, and he knows it. What makes him the "Rickest Rick" is that he never got what the other Ricks have. There were Ricks and Mortys living and dying while he was off fighting with Birdperson. When he finally decided to find the Rick who killed his version of Beth and Diane, the other Ricks already had theirs, and a proto-citadel to boot. Her came into a multiverse that had moved on without him, and he only became one of them after the truce, when he found a Beth whose father never came home. There's this, along with the question of who he replaced. Did their Rick really leave? If that's true then they walked out on the one thing C-137 wants the most. If not, then he died out there, and c-137 appears to have killed more Ricks than anything else in the multiverse. There's every chance that he's looking for someone who never lived. I don't necessarily think the show is going this way, but it is a fun way to think about why Rick might be so miserable.

Reed Richards (smartest man in the world, can make basically any technology, works with his family, prone to arrogance and being a dick) is a much closer comparison. Rick’s more of a nihilist asshole than Reed but otherwise kind of similar.

Overall I do agree, generally speaking this season of Rick and Morty was kind of a mixed bag, and overall not one of the best. The concept of "breaking the finite curve and entering the true multiverse" Is one of the best, if not the best, concepts Rick and Morty has ever done. I think had they spun it a little bit differently, that could have been a possibility for the series finale.
@ebensennett30953 жыл бұрын
I loved this. Especially the crow/portal episode. Morty just shoving his hand into the train tracks and tearing off his hand is such a stark contrast to the first episode where he cried when his legs broke (Which, to be fair, is a perfectly valid reaction) I just love it!

I understand that this COULD change A LOT to Rick and Morty but people said the same thing about space Beth. Really the show has about 2 or 3 ep that is canonical (usually the first and last 2 eps in a season). But i think they will figure something out on the first next ep, do a bunch of one-offs and slowly move the story forward at the end of the next season like they have for the previous 2 seasons.
@marcoscarrasco923 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean. The show has never been and will never become a serialized drama. It's episodic in nature, unchanging for the most part. It's only some plot elements that sometimes return for the big season events. My guess is that this will continue to be the formula going forward.

I really liked this last episode and enjoyed season 5 overall. I know the writers like to poke fun at the backstory and serial drama stuff, but the show does often hit its best beats when it directly confronts the development of its characters. I hope they do use this season finale as set up to shift the status quo a bit, put Rick and Morty on equal terms or just change their dynamic in an interesting way.

I don’t know I’m not has harsh on the season as most people. I don’t think Eyepatch Morty is coming back. Why come back to the universe you know is controlled by the Ricks. He already beat all the Ricks and he doesn’t care about the other Mortys so why return?

This was a great finale and I enjoy having a conclusion of sorts to the Evil Morty plot line. Although there are two things I noticed that could change the show in a massive way. First, Evil Morty's theme this episode was a lot more dramatic. Having an orchestral theme could be a grandiose way to send off this character and remove him form the series altogether. It's possible he will return in future episodes but I'm not sure what else they could cover with him. Evil Morty no longer cares about Ricks, and he's achieved his goal, so there isn't really a point to exacting 'vengeance' on other Ricks or on our Rick and Morty. The second thing was that when Rick and Morty were escaping the Citadel, only other Mortys (mutations and regular) made it onto the escape pod. This may be coincidental, but it could mean we won't be seeing other Ricks from different dimensions for a while. It also seems to highlight that even though the Mortys were considered the lowest order of the Citadel, they were the only survivors. Every Rick, including those who thought they were powerful and better than others, has presumably died. Everything they did on the Citadel to maintain their status was ultimately pointless. Thus, the power now seems to be in the hands of these Mortys, disrupting the original relationship between Ricks and Mortys. Maybe our own Morty will be treated better as Rick accepts that his standing has slipped. Incidentally, he is no-longer an all-powerful being as his portal gun appears to be useless. This could be a massive shift in the dynamic between the two and result in more team-based adventures like in previous seasons. It's possible I'm overthinking things again, and equally possible these are all coincidences. What I love about R&M is it leaves you with these open-ended questions and hooks you in. This season wasn't the best, but this final trilogy of episodes explained a lot and set up a really interesting premise for Season 6. My biggest concern is if the next season starts as if everything is back to normal. With implications this big, though, I'm confident they have some big plans in mind for Rick and Morty going forward.
