From the wikipedia page: """ They [the band] eventually came to the Crazy Daisy Nightclub on High Street, where Oakey spotted two girls dancing together on the dance floor, Susan Ann Sulley and Joanne Catherall. They were both 17-year-old students on a night out and neither had any experience singing or dancing professionally. With no preamble, Oakey asked both girls to join the tour as dancers and incidental vocalists. """ And I really like the fact that they took on bigger and bigger roles in the band as time went on.

At the time I felt it was a bit too minimalistic, and I prefer analog synth sounds (with a pulse and a more textured tone - more overtones, like you'd hear from bands like Simple Minds, Ultravox or New Order, or Tangerine Dream of course) - but forty years later I can certainly see the elegance and sense of style, both musically and visually. Phil is not a great singer but he has just the right attitude! :)

As someone who started producing synth music in the 80s and never stopped I must say that this is mainly the result of modern, computer-based production tools: they impose a particular workflow and thus discourage the way music was composed in the 80s. If we all returned to composing music with a bare keyboard or guitar, or a band, music would still be as melodic as it was in the day.

Except wisdom is no help when the heart is weak. Our memories aren't perfect but feelings, the qualia of youth beginning, of possibilities - these are eternal. Still sounds fantastic 36 years later. This song just blew me away when it first came out, perfect next single after Sound of the Crowd (best sleeve ever). It sounded so different, I loved their "look", their Vogue inspired logo, everything. Brilliant.

I remember the 1st time that I saw the Human League on the TV. The Human League song. Was The sound of the crowd. And that was the night. That I simply fell in love with the Human League. and Queen Joanne Catherall ♥️ epy. Little did I know. That I would be lucky enough 2 have a great opportunity 2 meet up with the 2 Human League Sweet ♥️ s IE Queens Joanne Catherall ♥️ and Susan Sulley ♥️ and king Philip Oakey 2. Nor did I know that u Queen Joanne Catherall Sweet ♥️. Will be partly responsible 4 the best night of my life ever. Even though the unexpected free taxi home from Brighton 2 Portsmouth where I live in and play Chess 4 on the night in question wasn't planned. The only downside of the night in question. Is that. Queen Joanne Catherall ♥️ wasn't in the free taxi home from Brighton 2 Portsmouth where I live in and play Chess 4. With me. I would of loved it. If Queen Joanne Catherall ♥️, Queen Susan Sulley ♥️ and king Philip Oakey 2 were in the free taxi home from Brighton 2 Portsmouth with me.

Well seeing as I refuse on principle to pay more than a fiver for a haircut I'd have had the same long hair back then.
