Wow, I knew about , why the dog did treat the mom and dad and family the way they did!!!... but the fix... about not paying attention to the dog.. had me wonder why... and after you explained why, it made so much sense!!! Great context and much needed 👌

Hiya, what you are saying so so spot on. I was raised on a farm and always had multiple dogs around me. On a farm its teamwork hence that attitude spilled over into the home life. Now 40 + year forward and we are still they same. As I always said some people have dogs and some people live with their dogs. When my rottie was still with us she picked up tension of any sort rather fast. Now 2 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer and she knew oh yes that girl knew. My kids had left home by that point but because we kept up the normal family vibe when my son was over to help me it was easy to just slot everything into place which in turn kept the dog happy and stable. From what I have learned over the years , your above statements are si so true and so so important. I am so glad that my dad was so stricked with us kids and instilled some great animal care either physically or mentally into us. My dogs are my life and I will do anything to keep them happy and give them a good life. Luckily I live in the south of the UK on the edge of the New Forset which is doggy paradise.

Dogs are so sensitive to their surroundings, it's really crazy to think about it, but it's TRUE. I learned to believe my dog judgement , I can see many times , when my husband is on edge, my dog is whiney, can't settle, and miss behaving . It is a same with me , when I'm sad my dog would not settle, just being clingy, and weird. So I hear exactly what you saying. This is an amazing and important thing , very interesting!! Thank you Larry , for touching such a sensitive subject!!!

I’m in tears. My two beautiful little 2 yo Aussies are suffering with us in our family relationships as my husband has gone through the loss of one kidney, his bladder, prostate and more glands and nodules than we can count. The cancer keeps coming back. He starts his 6th or 7th round of chemo (the third was supposed to take his life) next week. Maybe. The dogs behaviour reflects our times of relief (yes there are those) and our times of intense stress (husband’s work laid him off as of today - even though he has showed up or very obviously worked from home or the hospital *full time* through it all including covid-threats…. and losing him will cost them literally hundreds of thousands of dollars the first few months) He truly deserves a medal…. And so do my dogs. I just wish we could get a consult with you similar to the one you describe in the video before one of us dies from the stress-because I don’t know what to expect -or do- for my dogs to help them cope when one of us comes home without the other prolly pretty soon now. I think I’m more worried about the dogs than us - because they can’t talk, and I’m afraid we sometimes don’t understand each other. They are not behaving badly (no biting just the occasional surprise barking at strangers), but just behaving oddly sometimes. *Seems* like they are looking to each other for alpha-control instead of me…not sure. Wish you could watch us for a while and see if you could read the behaviours and prevent us from going down an even darker path with “the girls”. I’ve even considered rehoming them to protect them. But I can’t, I just cry more and need their comfort more. I just hope I’m not ruining them or dragging them with us to our deaths. This is not good for my grown children or grandchildren either. We need to figure out how to keep us together and mentally/spiritually healthy through the end of our tough times ahead instead of putting the emotional boohooing on the dogs-to have to help us manage. Can you give me some advice? Do you have a video on the topic of death-that I have missed? I’m pitiful, don’t even know what to ask… anything will help. Really. The angle on relationships already did help - drawing attention to the dogs’ ability to sense and respond to the changes and moods in our house. I know I can’t hide when I’m sad, but … no, I just don’t know

Larry, ohh Larry! over the yrs. How many times tried to explain people this subject. They looked at me like I was crazy! some told me in words, Some told me with body language to f... Off or, we need a trainer not a marriage cons. etc. This video should be shown in trainers seminars as opening! Should be, a must! A classic. For pet dogs, everyday dog owner, there is nobody has your angle. That is not a compliment! Fact. I challenge anyone, to disagree with me! Like them to send me one video! Show me I am wrong that someone else touch this topic in depth. If owners don't get it, it is either temporary fix! Or useless! That is what I think.. live long Larry & God bless you. 👌💙🙏

Environment has really changed my dog over the last couple of COVID years. We had to live in a couple unsavoury places where the environment was not calm and highly stressful, and it’s been the single-most negatively impactful thing that’s ever happened to her.

It’s not the dog, it’s the humans! I’ve watched a ton of videos from many sources and the best results are always from trainers who dig deeper than sit, stay, heel and the tools available. The foundation of relationship and the mental state of the person have SO MUCH effect on a dog. You always dig deeper, Larry. Thanks for all you do and share.

This is absolutely on point! I’ve noticed my dog feeds off mine and my husbands energy and emotions so so much. My husband is a veteran with some PTSD and anxiety issues. If he’s having a day I can tell by my dogs body language when I walk in the door from work. They pay attention to every detail. When we first started dating if my husband spoke in a louder voice my dog was immediately next to me. Still to this day if we get into an argument Moose is by my side like “I side with mom.” But on the other hand if my husband is upset and crying Moose is on his lap looking to comfort him. So many people wouldn’t even put together the fact the dog is living in a stressful family environment which is leading to the dog have behavior issues. This is one of many reasons you’re my favorite trainers to watch. Good job Larry 🍻

What a GREAT story! I'm all about the psychology, behavior of the animal. What makes the dog tick? If you can't read the dog, you sure as hell can't train it. Great idea, evaluating home environments; observing precisely how the dog integrates into the family (pack). In addition, you want to see exactly how & when the dog makes these mistakes at home; vs being taken out of its environment to a training facility.

Hey Larry I just wanted to say thank you for all you do to help us make our dogs the best they can be. I have learned so much from you. I put my heart and sole into training my dogs and have taken so much of your info and put it to use and were raising to well behaved pups because of it. I still make mistakes and we still have lots to learn but I don't think there are too many pups out there as well behaved and happy as these guys. Thank you.

Dearest Laura, i followed you as soon as i discovered you. I so much wish you continued your channel. i am at a loss concerning my now adult border collie. Extremely bright and willing to please, but has bit me viciously also, in the face, out of notice. I try to find answers, desperately, with Larry, with the other trainers you recommended, but for me it is not enough, there are so many different perceptions of dogs, and all probably have so many different answers. My blue merle border collie, unneutered, but very respectful of females in heat (well, untill they say no, he understands and moves away) i have been advised by my veterinarian to put him to sleep, to avoid a disaster with children in my vicinity.

Super interesting concept. I have a new client whose dog has an issue with the daughter in the family typically when the mom is around, come to find out the mom & the daughter had a pretty poor relationship when she was a preteen so I think that previous tension never really went away & the dog is sensing it now

Spot on! Energy is everything… dogs feel it profoundly. My two beloved fellas fought terribly, because of the tension between my partner and myself…. “Fake it till you make it”, mostly works to change energy…this is the basics of behaviorist work…

Love that. Thank you. If you feel like it, can you do a little chat about aggresion in male dogs toward other dogs when they first start to mature, say 9-18 months? In terms of the origins, whats the typical impulse behind it and how to best manage? Thank you.

My doberman is great with all the family members but he's very leery of strangers lots of times I have to put chief in the other room. If say my wife bring someone over that he's never met but in a way it's a good thing because of somebody breaks in I don't want him playing fetch just saying but he really is a fantastic dog I take him out in public like twice a week for a couple of hours and walk him around crowds and he's very well behaved except when they come up to me and asked can they pet chief I tell them he's not pet friendly thanks for asking he gets a little aggressive at times every Doberman I have had has been this way and he is also intact I don't believe in clipping a dog's nuts I'm sorry if you're responsible pet owner it's not a problem and I am very responsible with my dog

I have 2 red Male Dobes - full brothers, different litters and the younger one has this issue. Almost like a split personality or you usually see it with small dogs where you'll be petting the dog then all of a sudden, rah, rah, rah they snap as if to say get away from me. Has anything you tried helped at all? He's better with his muzzle on when meeting other people. It's like it boosts his confidence and for whatever reason, people come right up to him with his muzzle on. My older one is a therapy dog and good with everyone.
