If Monokuma pops out from literally nowhere an hour into this game and turns it into Danganronpa 4, I wouldn’t even bat an eyelash. "Extreme and Despair" has been the moniker of the game ever since it was first announced. It just doesn't translate well because Zero Escape was called "Extreme Escape" in Japan, while "Despair" obviously stands for Danganronpa. It's only meant to signify that it's co-written by Uchikoshi and Kodaka as they go wild. It's their collab passion project.

It'd be genius if this is a sequel to Danganronpa V3, which by the ending we know was a sickening killing show done for entertainment. After having the "Danganronpa brand" destroyed beyond repair thanks to the efforts of the cast of V3, they simply rebranded and started again with a new cast, different name and mascots. It'd be such an intelligent and shocking way to continue the series that'd make a ton of sense, after the ending the only choice for "Team Danganronpa" would be to do a complete rebrand and try and separate themselves from "Danganronpa" and what transpired during the 53rd season.
