(I'm Late af but) I mean also we know he's in on the plan to get Katniss out so I took that look on his face as realizing that she really loved him and how that could have been him and Annie and that's why he looks distressed because his job is to get Katniss out not peeta and he knows that even if he tries there is no guarantee that he will get peeta out. And when he doesn't at the end you can hear him arguing with H about telling her the truth! He also looks upset because he wanted to save all of them. Then again at the begining of mockingjay he's crying because he wanted to save peeta and joanna and knows how Katniss feels since they took annie. So that little speech about wishing they were all dead is so heartbreaking because he lost all hope.

I don't mean to get so deep but I don't think people realize how important this scene really was!!!!! If anyone has watched the movie or even read the book, u would know how President Snow visited Katniss and told her to convince him that she loved Peeta, to show him and the other districts that she had no intention of creating a rebellion, to show that she just took out those nightlock berries as a sign of a deep love. The moment where Peeta came back to life and Katniss hugged him, still crying hysterically, it showed President Snow that she did in fact love him, and she convinced him. This moment was when President Snow realized that he could use Peeta as a weapon and take him away, and make Katniss fall apart. When his grand daughter says, "I hope to love someone that much some day", it also kinda showed how not only did it convince President Snow, it convinced his little grand daughter and maybe have even convinced the other districts watching.

Very late response, but what's happening in Katniss's head, starting from when they team up in the arena: "I'm still suspicious of Finnick Odair, but Haymitch clearly wants us to be allies. If worst comes to worst I can kill him in his sleep." --> Peeta hits force field and Finnick revives Peeta. "GREAT. Now how am I supposed to kill Finnick? I can't stop owing him this, and I hate owing people. I'm supposed to be grateful, and I am, but there's only gonna be one victor and it needs to be Peeta." --> spends time together, toxic fog comes out, Finnick helps Peeta to get out. "I am so grateful that he's here now. Grateful that he is helping us through this. I could not have carried Peeta by myself, and how could we survive then?" --> spends more time "I decided that Finnick is not that bad. At least not as vain as I once thought." She doesn't say thank you because she's still conflicted about Finnick at this point. And she's set on helping Peeta win, which inevitably means the death of the other tributes. She doesn't want to invest in knowing others since they're all gonna have to die in the end. She doesn't know about the rebelion plan yet too.

i absolutely love the sheer attention to detail in this scene. as a former lifeguard i was taught to only do 15 chest compressions at a time instead of 30 when doing CPR on non-adults and we can clearly see finnick do less than 30 compressions (if not EXACTLY 15) between the rescue breaths, it really drives home the point that katniss and peeta are STILL KIDS while going through all of this horrible trauma. also finnick’s voice getting more and more desperate as katniss’ voice does shows that he truly CARES about them and if the alliance is being made to keep katniss alive then you know damn well he’s gonna keep BOTH of these kids alive if it’s the last thing he does. (and it IS the last thing he does in mockingjay💔)

I feel like Katniss and finnick’s relationship should have been developed more. They were nearly great friends, but Katniss hardly ever showed gratitude when finnick saved them so many times. I guess that’s because she struggled with ‘making friends’, and didn’t fully trust him, but finnick didn’t have nearly enough screen time before he died :((

I love how Katniss instinctively grabs her arrow when Peetas heart stops because that’s what she does when there’s danger. Then she realizes a bow and arrow won’t help her like it would in other situations

Her first thought is that Finnick pushed her away so he could attack Peet,a and is doing something to hurt him because she's not very familiar with CPR, so her first instinct is to try and fight Finnick. But the second she realises he's trying to help, she backs down.

this scene always breaks my heart how we could see how much Peeta meant to Katniss but she doesn't even truly know it herself. and the fact that Peeta keeps getting himself into danger and everyone is trying to keep him alive for Katniss or else she'd quit fighting.
