They deleted this because, since the book is narrated by Katniss point of view, then the director felt the need to just cut that one out because it wasn't connected with her. And they didn't have this scene in the book

Alyssa Gonzales The rescue scene wasn't described in the book either but they put it in. The reason why they cut this scene is because you would see Peeta. Without this scene it becomes more suspensful for the audience who didn't read the books because they'd keep asking themselves what is happening to Peeta.
