If you can accept that a film can be completely aesthetics, mood and performances, I think this is absolute aces considering what a treasure we having in Bowie and Deneuve and the X factor of a juicy Susan Sarandon here ...

@@josephkissel6062 I find this film to be very moving also. Its more than style over substance to me, but I can see why people view it that way. The villains are also tragic characters that are deep and well written. Its a film that brings up many emotions to me

Tony Scott’s first film. It is very loosely based off a novel by Whitley Strieber, but the novel and its sequels aren’t very good. The movie is a better version of the story. Miriam is another species, implied to be an alien in the novels. This movie does suffer from style over substance in my opinion, but it is very cool and memorable style.

I watched it for the first time with my mother. The ending still makes me think of her because we both reacted the same way. We had a very similar taste in films. She also told me those kind of women do exist - the ones who just collect men and use them up, and keep them like trophies in the attick of their past. She taught me to recognise the signs and stay the hell away...

Bowie and Deneuve are meant to be hundreds of years old. At 1:58 they're probably saying "Would you believe the crap they call music these days? It's all just noise, and you can't even hear what they're singing, bloody kids don't know they're born, I miss the war" (etc.).

A GEM of a film. Pretty much flawless start to finish in every respect. GRIPES...ummm...I'm struggling to think of any. So well done. The photography, choice of music, casting of actors....story, script.....subject mater....miss the days when Hollywood was creative putting out great films like this one. ANd what's funny is it was directed by tony Scott....Top Gun 1 fame....hehe....of all the directors...seems so "not him"...sad he did what he did.

Well well cast a spell, this film is bad azz TCM had these two dandy's going back to back light rolling thunder at like 2:30/3 in the dern AM. Shoot! I thought I wasn't feeling well, was up til 7AM watching these dern films. This is one of best opening scenes I have ever seen. Everything about it pops off the screen with flavor and style. That "Bela Lugosi Is Dead' piece is straight fire 🔥one of the baddest joints ever.

My reaction, upon seeing this scene in 1983, was "I wanna go to THAT club!" We didn't have them in the city where I lived during that decade; when I got to Atlanta in the early 1990s, though, they had plenty of Goth clubs, and I spent the next 10 years going to every one I could find.

I have watched this movies several, I meant about 7 or more times. I only remember Bauhaus and how much Catherine Deneuve was beautiful and was so classy. I always thought Peter Murphy should played the part instead of David Bowie. David Bowie was unconvincing because, even he married a woman in real life, he was to gay. Even if the woman was Catherine Deneuve, the other part was unconvincing too. Because a vampiress wouldn't never fall in love for that flavourless, uncharismatic, actress.
