12:41 yes, the bouncing between books is INSANE, especially during the miserable tutorial. The game is 100% worth it, but man, I would have given up on any other game with a tutorial so ridiculously convoluted and boring.

@@37stu I find it to be very brain burny! There are just enough variables in play, like the terrain, the enemy reaction, mobbing etc. that setting up a “perfect” attack is quite challenging. I’ve got a ton of gameplay on my channel, “The Grumpy Meeple”, if you want to see it in action.

Your quibbles are spot on!!!! It's so intimidating to get to the table. I want to play it, but yikes...... Thank you for the great review. I have been wondering about this game for years... I liked oathsworn but I stop playing to carry on with KDM. I like Gloomhaven but too fiddly and I am loving Cthulhu death may die for the "fun factor". Do you think that I might like this game?
@HungryGamerReviews Жыл бұрын
I actually have never played Death May Die. But am a bit familiar with it. This game.is less fiddly than GH, but it definitely has fiddly bits. I think the biggest thing that makes me say maybe not for you is that you didn't finish Oathsworn due to playing KDM. This is a long campaign and if you are deep into KDM it might be another unfinished game for you.

Thank you for your thoughts Hungry Gamer! This game is one that I thought so much and felt regret for not backing it. Then ATO came to my doorstep and the feeling faded to some extent. Faded not because I'm not interested in Tanates, but because I already have big adventures/campaign games (such as ATO) and not sure I'd have lots of time for Tanates. But totally intrigued, if they launch a reprint I'd follow closely.

Thank you for your videos, I really value your thoughts. I see a KS for a new version of Tanares launches later this month. (Just trying to work out as I’m getting DUN is Tanares worth it for me)
@HungryGamerReviews Жыл бұрын
I don't really compare the two games, they are so different. I have not gone back and played again, but that is simply because I was waiting for the rest of my game to arrive, and now it has to cycle back through some other dungeon crawls. Just had Middara on the table, then Oathsworn is next, then either Galaxy Defenders or Tanares

I was wondering just how much stuff you actually needed to play the game, looks very much like the kind of thing where you need a massive table to play. From a sheer practical perspective lugging several boxes around isn't ideal if you have to go somewhere else to play your games.
@HungryGamerReviews Жыл бұрын
It's not a great travel game. You need the Tanares box and the core arena the contest box.

Watching this the day the new campaign launches, and yourself and Alex (BoardgameCo) may have sold me. I was always interested but I'm generally hesitant on campaigns, and a big part of that is being locked to a single character; this addresses that, and in a different way than Oathsworn. This could be an expensive month...😂

@@HungryGamerReviews 100%! Also, this will hopefully be the motivation to get off my butt and sell some of our games that have been sitting in the "sell/trade" pile for far too long! One of the big selling points is actually the delivery date! Even if they are late, it sounds like first half of 2024 which is impressive (but it's also mostly a reprint and update).
