These guys seen me through my teens, and delivered some awesome tunes.
Here they are live and at the top of their game, just before releasing their second (and best) album 'The Small Price of a Bicycle'.
This is from their first album, the self titled 'The Icicle Works'.
A track I was never that keen on, a bit repetitive for me, but everyone else seamed to like it. Anyway, it's a decent performance if it by the lads...

I saw them back in the 80s in New Haven warming up for David Bowie and the version of this song they did was just insane. The guitarist did a crazy guitar solo like i've never heard and the percussionist was awesome during this too. They were in total flow-state playing this song. I wish i could find a recording of it.

This version isn't as good as it should be: he sacrifices the signature guitarplay for a... keyboard. It neither sounds good, good enough, and flies in the face of true postpunksmanship - which the album version has in spades. His voice also isn't holding up like it should so he scales down on the urgent-optimism of the vocal feels; the whole song pays for both these shortcomings. If it wasn't for the FUCKING STUNNING intensity of the drums (& bass), this live version would painfully suck. Am still a fan, but both the Beatles and Electrafixion (a.k.a. Echo&thebunnymen 2.0) still hover above this band; that said, had Icicle Works gone on and further, they'd be stunning to listen to. I say this as a fan of other postpunk bands that became 10 times better as time went on, such as Bauhaus, Gang Of Four, Killing Joke, Ministry, ECho & The Bunnymen/Electrafixion, Eurythmics, among others.
