Me too! When MTV started in the US, I fell in love with every British band I saw. I started seeking out British Music only, Starting w Eurythmics, Culture Club, Duran Duran, The Smiths, the Cure, Cocteau Twins, New Order/Joy Division Siouxsie etc. All that “second British Invasion” music was awesome. Watched “the Tube; SNUB, The Young Ones, and a few years later Mtv came out with “120 minutes” and it was mandatory viewing for me.

I played 'clean' guitar in an 'indie' band in the early 1980. We wrote and played our own songs. I now realise by listening to this and The Ocean Blue, The Wild Swans etc. that we also had a distintive 1980s sound. It's not all about heavy rock and flashy solos. Oh what fun we had back then. What a glorious musical decade. It's all about melody. Great stuff.

I was the same! Roland Jazz Chorus 120 with out-of-phase Stratocaster sound. I think of this track as way earlier than Ocean Blue; I liked OB a lot (especially their production) but for me they were college while this song is so junior high, early eighties-New Wave-Second British Invasion EPIC. One of the immortal classics. That jangly, stereo chorus solid state guitar sound was all over the early-to-mid eighties; the guitarist for our band got the JC-120 for Christmas sophomore year and we were in AWE. Stereo chorus! The Fixx (“Stand or Fall”), Duran Duran (“Is There Something I Should Know”) and Flock of Seagulls (“Space Age Love Song”) are all iconic examples. Unfortunately, I was the keyboardist in my little band, and wow did I feel lame trying to recreate what was coming out of megabucks Fairlights and PPG Waves and Oberheim xPanders with the meager funds I had. I finally got my hands on a Prophet V by senior year, but that was ‘87 when the era was getting kinda lame. But I wouldn’t trade anything in the world for coming of age during 1977-1986! Music has never been the same.

Probably commented before, but this, with INXS and Big Country was revelatory when I was 16 in 1984-5. Still amazing, still incredibly rich in its devotion to love. It evokes the same emotional content as Ah-Ha, Under Pressure, and Big Country's first album. The main thing I would say is, listen to this whole album. It is amazingly good.

I have a few problems with this... Firstly, there's no way he says "we're just children". I can't even begin to hear that no matter how many times I listen to this. It's "we are mature children". That's all I hear, every time. Also, you put "in the eye of the pathos daughter", but it pretty clearly says "faithless daughter". Finally, I hear "take us forever", and you put "changes forever". That one might be right but it's not how I hear it. Judging by the writing credit at the bottom, I assume you copy+pasted this from a lyric website, in which case it's they who are wrong. Sadly even the most reputable lyric websites aren't reliable 100% of the time. Guess the only way to truly find out is to check the original liner notes or ask the person who wrote it. Still a great song either way.

@@landonvincent7974 - It's "We are BUT YOUR CHILDREN." "(Birds fly) In the eye of the faithless daughter," and "Take us forever." Sadly, I still have this cassette tape. And its liner notes. Oddly enough, the only lyrics video for this song which is even remotely accurate is KARAOKE LYRICS, if you want to try to track that down somewhere.

In 1984 I was a freshman in High school and I remember the day my big brother brought this album home from the record store on cassette. I recall it vividly, even these thirty-nine (39)years later, because the cassette case was very unusual. It was bright ORANGE! 😂 Also memorable, as he placed it in the cassette deck, closed the door and pressed "PLAY," my ears were gloriously assaulted by the opening drumbeat. What a kick this song is! 😍

Life defining for some, a hidden gem for others. I love how youtube can help you discover "new" old music. Before you needed a radio DJ, magazines and friends to do that. And there are countless of hidden gems. Sometimes you can even find whole playlists of them. I hope the generation that didn't experience the album-buying-days get to appreciate just how insane that really is and how expensive their playlists would 've been if they should have bought its as records or even cassette tapes back in the mid 80's.

In the 80s I used to listen to this on my Walkman when I ever I took a flight. If you start this song at the end of the runway when they power up and started their run down the runway, when it gets to the line that says birds fly is when the nose of the airplane would lift up and you would takeoff, it is the perfect takeoff song

I SOOOO remember the excitement I felt when I first heard this song back in 1984: out of the Navy, enrolled in college, Friday night's in Old Towne, resentful looks from anemic, pasty-faced adults trapped in dead-end office jobs with equally DOA lives, jealous cops who over-compensated for their sexual impotence and insecurity complices with their made-up bullshit but who secretly envied us, frigid Saturday night's partying down on the River in winter temps so cold each breath was like a dagger to the lungs.....God what a time to be alive!!! NOTHING was impossible!!!!
