In my opinion, when you don't use icon hack, it can feel more rewarding when you finally get a cool-looking icon that you've been working for. But on the other hand, using icon hack doesn't affect gameplay at all, and sometimes people just want to use icons they think looks cool, so it's not really harmful when someone uses it, but I can see why some people don't.

My biggest issue is the demon key chests. For someone like me, who plays the game casually, I don’t necessarily want to grind hundreds of thousands of levels to unlock all of the chest icons. I still won’t cheat or anything, but the game has become EXTREMELY grindy now and I can see why some players are turned off by this.

Best option is to look up a video of showing key chest rewards. Because icons and colors are locked behind certain key chests. Next you unlock the chest that the icon could be in and if you don’t get what you want, crash the game since it doesn’t save it automatically.

I understand why some people think icon hack is "cheating" but personally i just want a cool icon set that i can use to represent myself. I like beating difficult levels, and because of that i basically only play demons that take me weeks to beat. If i wanted all my icons I'd have to grind for keys and shards and orbs etc etc. That's not enjoyable for me.

It's a single player game who tf cares. Icon hack users aren't claiming to have unlocked them legitimately. The difference between this and faking a completion for example is that with the fake completion the player is claiming to have legitimately beaten the level. Had they been open about the completion being illegitimate then it wouldn't have been cheating, and EVEN IF you still think that would be cheating it certainly wouldn't have mattered or been a bad thing. If you still think there's anything wrong with icon hack then I expect to see you commenting on every level showcase you see telling the uploader that they're cheating, how dare they!

If you beat a rated level in under 30 seconds (if it is rated medium or above) in regular levels you get Leaderboard banned, can’t really do that in platformer mode

The only advantage that certain icons have over others is psychological, like the perceived aerodynamics of a ship or wave or the hit box of a ufo, even though it’s all the same performance. People will have different play styles and different reasons they enjoy the game. Not everyone is an achievement hunter, not everyone is an orb grinder. Let people have all the icons if they want, let people have fun.

My Opinion: Icon Hack is completely fine, since it not really cheating. Yes it unlocks things you shouldn't have. But who does it harm? Noclip for example is way worse since you actually cheat with that but Icon Hack isn't anything else then cosmetic, it doesn't even give you any advantage. This is one of the reasons I don't use twitter, they always manage to make new Drama. Nobody was even judged in 2.11 for using Icon Hack. Just because 2.2 added so many Icons it apparently worse now.

I kind of like that there's icons that take a lot to get. I feel that these rewards motivate me and other players to play the game more and play other levels that they otherwise wouldn't. I like having a goal to work towards and it gives me motivation. I'm not angry at anyone who doesn't want to grind like that though. They might not even be casual players. Demon slaying (my definition for only going after really hard demons or only doing ones that are challenging to you) doesn't net many resources since you spend a lot of time on one level. This is how I've played for a while and as a result, dispute just recently breaking 2000 stars, I'm almost done with supersonic. Lately I've been grinding gauntlets to get diamonds and it's opened up my perspective a bit, it's a nice break from insane demons. What I am a bit peeved about is icons that are only unlockable in 2.21. I'm not mad that they are being hacked but rather, peeved that they are in the game to begin with. Like... why? why not just... not include them until the update? ngl was a bit peeved to see so much stuff teased for the next update in an update that took 7 years. If someone hacks those icons in I won't blame them, or any tbh. I don't care.

Personally I've never really cared about icon hack usage. I did think it was a little weird to use it in 2.1, since you can just get the achievement yourself, but in 2.2, there are a ton of icons that are just impossible to get. If you want to use any of these impossible icons, I'd say there's no good argument against just using icon hack for them and then unlocking them normally once 2.21 comes out. Personally though, I would rather just use icons I've unlocked. The 2.2 icons that have already came out like the wiggly worm ship or the pool toy UFO are good enough for me. And the whole thing of certain icons having better dimensions or whatever never really had an effect on me. I can use literally any icon and play equally well. That's why I can still use the wiggly worm ship instead of needing to swap to default or whatever for hard levels.

The UFO and Swing I wanted are also locked behind 2.21, while some of the rest are locked behind difficult achievements -- 22,500 stars (I only have 257), Ice Path Rank 9 (not good at saving mana orbs + I'm a mobile player with a skill issue), a 25 key chest for the wave (it's the one that looks like Illuminati), and beating Power Trip (I forgot my account's password so I can't move it to Subzero). And then there are the easy ones, such as the buyable robot in Scratch's shop which cost me 3,500 orbs, 35 ice shards (which may be difficult to get again if I start again since there are now ten shard types), and uhhh... I don't know. I like Jetpack 5, though. Might keep that.

I think this update legitimizes the icon hack more than it makes it bad. There are so many icons locked behind the 2.21 update, it sorta feels unfair that even players who are good at the game can’t access them. Besides, people use texture packs all the time, why shouldn’t people be allowed to freely choose their icon set? Personally, I’m going to use the hack to get access to the update-locked icons. I’ll acquire my favorites legitimately once 2.21 is out.

I like to grins for an icon to sisplay it in my profile and seeing everyone with icon hack also having it isnt really a good feeling, but i agree that more casual player who just want to use good icons should be able to use them freely. A way to solve my problem is to just make icon hack only work for you, so others only see your icons if you have the achievements, but you can still see it. It's like Bakkesmod from Rocket League.

honestly I think the biggest problem stems from how unbalanced obtaining certain icons can be. If the unlock requirements of all or most icons were around the same, then I'd have much less of an issue. Some need very little work, and some need a lot Of course, naturally, there should be easy ones. But I don't think it's fair to lock cosmetics behind exceedingly hard achievements. Like, imagine you just started out the game, and see a locked icon. You click on it, and.... "Beat 500 demons to unlock". You are locking an icon behind what is pretty much over 2000 hours of learning the game, gradually increasing our skill level and then the time actually practicing the specifics of each level and beating them. This is why shops are great. They allow players to get the icons they want for a fair price, while making sure experienced players don't get everything immediately, as prices of many icons add up. Shops make getting that one specific icon you want take little time, but it still takes a lot of playing to get absolutely everything. On the other hand, demon key chests are horrible and the polar opposite. For achievements, even if it's hard, you at least know that it's a fixed requirement. You know EXACTLY what to do, and how much to do it. For demon key chests, the game tells you it's in a chest, which, given the amount of chests, is already bad. But then IT DOESN'T EVEN TELL YOU WHAT TYPE OF CHEST IT IS! You can't know if the chest needs 100 keys, 1 key, 20 keys. Imagine you're opening chests to get icons, but then you open all the 1 key chest ones only to find out that it wasn't in any of those. Ok, now you know that it's not in the 1 key chests, but you still don't know if it's on the 5 key chests or the 100 key chests. I know, yes, you can just google it, but a good unlockable system shouldn't need you to google the requirements

I don't use icon hack because it ruins the fun, you don't progress or earn anything. It feels like there's no reason to even play because you don't progress. You won't have a reason to earn orbs or anything. I'm not against it, others can use it, but me personally it ruins the fun and would make me get bored really fast knowing there's nothing for me to look forward to.

Since Robtop likes to implement in-game solutions for things like that, like practice music sync, object bypass, viewing hitboxes, etc. So how about. When you press a locked icon, you will have an option to buy it for, let's say 30-50k orbs (or maybe diamonds?), buying it will not unlock the achievement and unlocking it will not refund the orbs. Seems like a best of both worlds idea, will make some icons much easier to obtain, but it'll still take some dedication to do so. You could also potentially make it so you can view someone's stats and achievements on their profile, to discourage just cheating them. Something similar could be done about the chests, an expensive item you can buy at one of the shopkeepers that lets you see the contents of key chests.

I honestly don’t have any problem with people using it. They really are just cosmetic, and its not like they’re hacking to get on the leaderboard, they just like an icon, and want to use it without putting however many hours it will take to get. I dont use it myself because i personally like unlocking icons, but i see no problem with it, its just cosmetic.

any debate over icon hack being acceptable or not is ridiculous due to the fact that you are able to customize your icons yourself through the game files. i personally don't use icon hack because i already customized icons i already own into something i like. i can make my own icons into whatever i like, without having to unlock anything, so i have no reason to care about icons i don't have. for example, a lot of the new 2.2 icons are just old customized icons that the community made and popularized years ago, like the 500 demon bunny.

I think that icon hack is allowed and supported (or at least it should be). I use the "geometry genius" cube. I REALLY like that cube (it is the cube from the first 2.2 skeek peak), but in order to get that cube you need to get 1000 likes on your level, which is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. like, I will NEVER get 1000 likes, but I still like that icon a lot, so iconhack is the way to go. Let me know about your options tho

My only problem with icon hack is the fact that i think it takes away one of the most fun aspects of the game which is pushing yourself to complete challenges to get that icon you want, when 2.1 dropped there were soo many new icons and so i began using icon hack, only to just lose interest in the game really quickly because what's the point of already having everything unlocked in a game where most of the progress is made by achievements and unlocks? yes i do understand that some 2.2 icons are really expensive and that's going to get fixed in 2.21, but yet again using icon hack is just taking away the fun part of the game for "casual players" so unless you are completing top 1 demons and that's the only thing you do, if you are a casual player and you use icon hack, what's the point of playing the game in the first place?

Personally, I actually wouldn't like this. No Man's Sky had a similar feature at one point, when they added custom profile difficulties, which allowed you to change the prices of items, combat difficulty, and a ton of stuff. Originally, this feature had something similar to your idea, where using a modified difficulty setting showed a little icon next to your name. Unfortunately, this just ended up making a lot of people mad and caused a bunch of "othering" in the community (making a sort of "us v. them" mentality). It was basically seen as a badge of shame to a lot of people, even though some of the settings really aren't that extreme, like changing the stack size of an item, or making space stations have a couple more items than normal for sale. Convenience stuff. Worth noting, I play on PC and don't have megahack or anything, and I don't really have any interest in getting it. This just seems familiar to me and it didn't end well the first time. NMS ended up actually removing the edited difficulty badge entirely due to the drama it caused, replacing it with an icon for if someone locked their difficulty settings permanently.

As much as I would love to collect more icons, I'm happy with my current set. I don't mind if people like to use icons that they can't get legit but at the same time, I still enjoy grinding a few stars/moons or user coins mainly to enjoy levels people made throughout the years. My only problem with the achievements are getting a huge amount of keys for the demon chests or beating over 100+ demons just for the icons that people wanted.
