@@traceycartledge8591 I always underrated The Police to be honest. I never truly appreciated their sound until I wasn’t a kid anymore. Then more latterly I realised I liked loads of their stuff.. I simply didn’t know it was them! And Stuart Copeland is an absolute BOWST as well. So thrilled that you enjoyed it. I bloody loved making this video LOL. 🤣 xx

I said somewhere else that he is the master of precision dynamics and accents, while being completely wild with tempo and arrangement. Just a true artist. And great reaction as always!

@@Michael-xb4ws I have to completely agree with you on that! I need more Stewart Copeland in my life. Truly an incredible, musically adept monster who applies it so naturally. Thanks for the compliment Brother!

Me too tbh mate. I do think he added a lot to this version but the original is still very intricate. So thrilled you found it informative bro! 👊

Iv never seen any other drummer hold the drum stick like he does in his left hand, holds it more like a chopstick than a drumstick
@warlord_drums25 күн бұрын
First of all, I love your name. Stewart is using what drummers called ‘traditional grip’. It’s basically using a technique where you hold the stick using the underside of your hand. This was originally used by marching drummers to be able to play their snare while walking at the same time, as the drum was strapped to their neck. Some drummers still use this technique but it doesn’t really have many advantages or disadvantages in my opinion. It’s simply personal preference! Hope you can subscribe and come back for more!

Traditional grip. All the old school greats like Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa played like this but it's easier to play loud backbeats using the style you're used to seeing. But as you can see, Copeland doesn't have any problems playing loud!
@IanLeoMusic5 күн бұрын
@@jamieboulton1705 He's using his own variation of the traditional grip where the stick is resting on his middle finger not the ring. Helps get more power hitting the snare
@jamieboulton17054 күн бұрын
@@IanLeoMusic Oh yeah, never noticed that. Nice catch. Mind you, still don't understand how that could get you more power?? I've just tried and it doesn't travel as far and it hurts! More practice I guess, it certainly hasn't hurt Stewart. I remember listening to the first couple of albums and marveling at that snare.
@IanLeoMusic4 күн бұрын
@ Yeah it does takes months even years of practise to build those finger muscles where the stick rests. You’ll get lots of blisters at first too. But Once they’re developed you’ll be able to really whip that stick down and really smack those rimshots. Watch live performances of Stewart with The Police in the 80s and you’ll see how hard & fast he whips that stick down. I don’t know exactly the science behind it but my theory is that the less fingers touching the stick it’s able to travel more and generate more force (I use the same grip as Stewart and I can tell you, as long as you’re doing it right, you can 100% hit the snare harder)
