Love this build! All of your videos are so inspiring. If you had made this a few months earlier, I wouldn't be aiming for a handheld PC build. I'm planning to make an eGPU enclosure as flat as possible that can be mounted on the wall, maybe with a holding device for a handheld underneath. I don't own a 3D printer, so I'll probably make it by hand from PC case scraps.

I recently discovered your channel and all I can say is that your content is amazing for newbs like me who just got into 3d printing and have a slight obsession for mini pc servers. Keep up the great work! P.s.: have you ever thought of also showcasing how would these builds perform when running some LLMs on them with the gpu? I know I would love to know that 😁 especially now when many people search for the cheapest (but still good) way to run a home server and LLM. So far the answer seems to be a m1-4 mac mini, but I think you can add something to the discussion.

This project is really awesome, some itx brands could sell a case like this for hundred dollars, but you sell the model for a few bucks, thats amazing, when micro pcs with intel 12th gen become cheaper we can finally use pcie4 to have a full gpu performance :)

I really love this idea. Those mini PCs are so capable too compared to the ones being put out by Chinese vendors. I couldnt add a M.2 to Occulink port to the Minisforum MS-01 because it doesnt support it.. only memory.
@WeightedPressurePlateOfficial14 сағат бұрын
@@FarEastSurvival it does. All PCs with m.2 do. You just have to buy the right adapter, and it will.
@jeffchrist77713 сағат бұрын
Id love to see this same chassis build, but with the 1L pc permanently installed and instead of using an Occulink connector just use a riser cable so you can pass the whole x8 to the card. Also, is there any additional room for a 199mm GPU(GeForce RTX 4060 Ti VENTUS 2X BLACK 16G)?

It would be good if the single PSU can be made to power the mini PC too. Most of these mini PCs require a separate power brick which means you end up with two cables dangling from the case (one of the PC, one for the PSU of the GPU).
@itggear10 сағат бұрын
Thank you for your thoughtful suggestion! Every project has a scope of work, and it's important to remember that one solution can't address every situation. This video is dedicated to a specific idea. If new ideas arise, they often require a fresh project design. Regarding powering the mini PC with a single PSU, it's worth noting that mini PCs, like those from Dell, typically require their original charger, which uses three wires and contains a regulation chip. While you can use other non-Dell chargers if the bit tip fits and the voltage is the same, the PC will run at its slowest and display a BIOS error message, 'Charger cannot be determined, wattage unknown.' This limitation makes it challenging to use a single PSU for both the mini PC and GPU.

So this has been an interesting project to see. It fits what i want to do. My question would be does it have to be one of those PCs? I have a mini pc that has usb 4 that could use gpu docks/ could give up a pcie slot though. Id want to use it with this style of egpu dock. It'd be perfect for my application. Could this case be modified for my style of PC?
@itggear10 сағат бұрын
There are USB4 USB eGPU adapters the same size and port orientation as the Oculink adapter I used in this video. You can search for 'EXP GDC TH3P4GAN GPU Dock Thunderbolt3/4' for more info. Thank you.

It would be cool to power the mini pc from the flex psu in the dock with a custom adaptor cable, but I'm not sure if that is even possible. The total wattage would be there, but not sure if it would be available on the correct rails.
@patricksheffield287419 сағат бұрын
I have done this before using an inexpensive up-converter to bring the 12V from a standard PC power supply up to the 19V required by the mini-PC.

You could go the other way too and use a Pico receiving 19v, get a daisy chain cable and do mini pc too.
@patricksheffield287419 сағат бұрын
Although it’s more difficult to add an M2 to Oculink adapter to Lenovo 1L mini PCs because of the location of their M2 slots, those with a PCIe slot can take advantage of half height PCIe to Oculink adapter available for around $20 bucks on Amazon. (I tried to post a link to one example, but KZbin didn’t seem to allow that).
@itggear19 сағат бұрын
There are PCIe x4 to Oculink adapter the same price as M.2 Oculink adapter.
@badharrow18 сағат бұрын
At that point you may as well just use a pcie riser and get full x8 lanes.
@patricksheffield287417 сағат бұрын
@@badharrow unless I’m mistaken, the PCIe slot on those models of Lenovo 1L mini PC only have 4 lanes anyway. Plus using a full riser would preclude the modular nature of @itggear’s project.

Extremely outstanding design, user friendly for mini-pc upgrade dell lenovo and can it be fit also for minisforum ms-01?
@itggear10 сағат бұрын
The space for the Micro of the case design is 38mm. As I know, the Minisforum MS-01 has a thickness of over 40mm. However, we can adjust the 3D model by extending the size with just a few clicks. Thank you.

The HP 800 mini G4 with i7 8700T online price seems to be about 300 usd. I guess this is not the budget price but a previous one before it became popular on the last 10 months in the SFF community. So: does anybody know how much these mini pcs used to be sold for before?
