Thanks for answering my question guys! It’s crazy that you only really need that recommended amount when gym bros always told me the minimum was 1g per pound

Thank you for stating that people with high body fat percentage should use their lean body weight when calculating protein needs. I was having a difficult time trying to figure out how to get 230 grams of protein per day. 🤦🏾‍♂️…especially on a tight budget

I think this might have been a game changer for me. I've been trying to get 200 grams of protein a day at 2000 calories. Based on this info with me currently weighing 233 pounds with 32 percent body fat, I only need around 160 grams of protein a day once I threw in the "lean body mass" part. Definitely will change what and how much I'm eating and how much I'm spending!

Thank you! I’m 6’4 and 230 pounds. I have a low Lean body mass unfortunately at around 112. So I just started weight lifting again and cardio so I’m aiming to take in 150 grams of protein. Im aiming to get between the range of 170-180

Lean body weight is logical to be used as base. Total bodyweight minus fat weight. After all, body fat does not need to be fed with protein or anything else, we actually need to minimize it in order to maximize our performance and results.

You should probably go one step further. Not all lean body mass is nitrogenous tissue. 60-80% of lbm is water, bone, etc. that’s generally why the studies show 0.6 - 0.8 gram per lbm of body weight is fine for hypertrophy. I’m reality the number is probably much less than 0.6 g / lb. It might be a good explanation for why some vegans can still build muscle on lower protein diets

I eat 1g per lean lb. bodyweight. works well for me, strength is steadily increasing

I used to have 250-300grams for 20 yrs Now I have 150-175 and it has no negative effects on my strength. .

U need to eat a ton of protein if u on the juice. Steroids is a protein eater. Maybe it's mainly the creatine in meat, making the difference. Fitness is a religion

I feel great on a lower protine diet just never satisfied. Im 6 foot about 200 semi athletic with a beer gut im getting rid of. Anything shy of 150g per day i feel like im on a diet lol.

I could be wrong, but I think it may be 1g/kg for protein intake rather than 1g/lb.

i weigh 215 i eat 250 grams I've figured out if I eat less I start feeling weaker much weaker not sure why. and i dont lean out as quickly. sometimes i go as high as 300 grams of protein. training feels much better all around.
