I find Mr. House's side to be such a compelling faction in the game, simply because he eschews from your typical "anarchy vs. order" dynamic that most game factions approach politics from. Instead, House represents the prioritization of a select few and the flourishing of technology placed in the hands of one undisputed leader, and it provides a neat contrast to the more egalitarian NCR or the barbarism of the Legion. You can definitely see the merits to House's ideology, but also have to contend with the suspect policies that may come at the cost of rampant, unhindered progress.

Their government is more subservient to the Brahmin Barons then anything else and will actively would rather resort to violence rather than taking the time to even talk things out. Their conflict with The Kings and by extension their treatment of Freeside are one of the best examples of what the NCR has become. A blotted, bureaucratic state that if it took over New Vegas wouldn’t be able to hold on to it.

While so many other versions just slap one one coat of paint and call it a day.

I wish new Vegas wasn't rushed to hell and back, the legion kinda got gutted and they're really hard to sympathize with in the finished game but they had so much planned content. We were supposed to get in depth looks into their government in the east (the legion basically acts like a military force in the Mojave and none of their rules are enforced there like they are in the east) and it was supposed to paint a picture of a primitive but fascinating society that blends modern day technology and wisdoms with tribal and ancient government. But because we only see their barbaric side that's all they are to us.
@battlesheep25525 ай бұрын
Yeah especially since people are all about "well the Legion will fall because Rome fell in like 500 years" instead of actually bringing up actual flaws like the Legion being too rigid because it's built on its own hype and how 99% of legionaires are just dumba** tribals who don't know anything about Hegelian Dialectics or whatever and are just swallowing the dogma.

My perception along with focusing on guns was good that they couldn’t close the gap between me and them. Felt good. Honestly the one thing I do hate is that the Legion doesn’t have a lot of content to fully flush them out. since it makes them a very easy faction to go against due to the fact that there’s not a lot of reasons to support them in taking over the Mojave and new Vegas, the only things they can provide is making sure trade caravans are properly protected in the routes they go down and eradicating various dangerous wildlife that can cause trouble for settlements and that’s really it.🐱

Sadly the Legion is one of the biggest victims of the games short development time. The east side of the Colorado river was gonna be way bigger initially, in fact the game space for all of that still exists past the mountain borders. So much was planned, sad to see it not making in.
@Warrior-Of-Virtue5 ай бұрын
Agreed. Making them cartoonishly evil was a huge mistake. If it had been something more nuanced, maybe akin to its actual historical counterpart, with genuine good points that you could make a reasonable argument for siding with, then it would have made for a far more interesting story.

@@Warrior-Of-Virtue Eh, I personally wouldn't say that they lack nuance, Caesar being able to explain the why's of his ideology very in-depth kind of proves there is nuance to them. I've seen a good few people agree with Caesar, even if the majority don't so there clearly are points to follow.
@cptndunsel26705 ай бұрын
@@Warrior-Of-VirtueThe legion was originally supposed to be more fleshed out and nuanced. East of the Colorado river we would have gotten to see how the Legion lived in their own territory and that there was a method to their madness. Like another commenter said though, the Legion was a victim of the games short development cycle. It is funny though, that even though the Legion clearly takes its aesthetics from Rome, they more closely resemble the Mongol Empire.
@poymannyng18455 ай бұрын
Something I feel could have worked pretty well for fleshing out the legion, while not adding anything too fancy to the game that'd have tripled dev time, is focusing on caesar dying and the question of succession, imagine their main quest being about courtroom intrigue between Caesar's generals, frumentarii missions in ncr bases like mccarran and such, which would just be "walk here, talk to X or Y" quests in finished cells. maybe even letting you pick who becomes the new caesar, with just one ending slide giving a very brief description of their reign.

@NoName-fg1eu5 ай бұрын
Great video but I do think one thing is missed that's very important to this. All the fractions have their flaws but even the worst ones have some good to them. This is why I love New Vegas so much. The legion is objectively the worst faction morally and even as a government as a whole. However the legion territory is the safest territory in the entire area. The cut content wanted to explore this more however you can learn from traders that they love going through legion territory because there are no raiders unlike the NCR territory. Even though life is horrible for many people in the legion area, If you are a citizen you're in the safest area probably in the entire west. Not to mention the one that has the best critique of the NCR is Caesar himself who points out that they aren't really a democracy, just a dynasty with extra steps. They are still the worst faction though. But even the evil bad guys have to have some positive to their existence otherwise why would they exist. This is something a lot in modern shows and movies where there is absolutely no understanding or benefit to the "evil faction". They are just evil and there's no reason why they should be other than maybe they like being evil or tradition or zealots. And yet some how they just rule with no question. Legion rules with both an extreme iron fist and cruelty but also guarantee safety in a world where anyone will kill you if you lived anywhere else

The yesman ending is meant as a choose your own ending. It is bad compared with the other endings at face value because all other factions give you an overview of the problems that faction faces in the wake of hoover dam and then offers said factions solution for getting said problems under control. Yesman only offers problems with no solution because the player is supposed to fill in the blanks with their own solutions, that's the whole point of seizing the reigns of power for yourself. It's a power trip that can be as good or as bad as it needs to be depending on what the player has in mind and the game gives you plenty to work with (I e a courier with access to big mountain could supplement their securitron army with nimble big mountain cyber dogs to disperse the riots spoken of in the ending slides, or levies the goodwill they had working with every faction to curry political favors and grant representation in some form or another to the various factions and actually form a stable government that is any of the hundreds of shades in-between the communal homogenized warband, expansionistic kleptocrasy and isolationist autocratic city-state that the other factions encompass) Tldr yesman ending is designed to revolve around player head canon, that's why it is lacking compared to the others and if you aren't into roleplaying that in depth it just looks like the crappy pessimist everything goes wrong ending because without said head canon it is effectively only half an ending. I love some of my yesman playthroughs, but yesman playthroughs are highly personal and cannot translate between players. So objectively yes just going by game canon yesman ending is the bad ending, but I appreciate it's inclusion and intent because sometimes you just wanna flip the board and try to imagine a better way for the people of the mojave..or a nightmare hellscape of pragmatic tyranny from a technocratic cyborg conquering the waste for nothing more than their own amusement, depending on the playthrough
