Dumb rule. There's a monumental difference between "OK down to 4th gear for this corner, less throttle in and faster out" and "do this to avoid blowing up the car". An evolution of this rule probably could exist, but it was far too bluntly enforced in 2016
@gregoryf929920 күн бұрын
Nowadays it seems it’s gotten closer to the former, lol! Personally I’m ok with it: all the teams can do it and share to the drivers, so it’s a level playing field. I think the better drivers don’t need it and the lesser drivers will be overwhelmed/not help, so don’t think it’s made too much difference over time IMHO

I know it happened before this race, but you mentioning him having so much to manage while driving sort of epitomizes that famous "A short view back to the past…" press conference question
@AvelinFFАй бұрын
Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, Niki Lauda told us ‘take a monkey, place him into the cockpit and he is able to drive the car.’ Thirty years later, Sebastian told us ‘I had to start my car like a computer, it’s very complicated.’ And Nico Rosberg said that during the race - I don’t remember what race - he pressed the wrong button on the wheel. Question for you both: is Formula One driving today too complicated with twenty and more buttons on the wheel, are you too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the technical programme during the race? Less buttons, more? Or less and more communication with your engineers?

@themorellonomicon275717 күн бұрын
Driver coaching is 'focus more on exit speed in turn 6, the straight after is where you're losing the most time to the other driver', not 'go to these settings out of hundreds, and shift from 6th to 8th because your gearbox will explode in 7'. So even under the spirit of the regulations at the time this should have been allowed imho. As for the rule as a whole; if you can process complicated input while you're in the middle of performing such a complicated and timed task and gain an advantage out of it then you should be rewarded for that. Even if you try to send a continuous audio signal to directly tell the drivers when to break and how much to turn or whatever, basically puppeteering from the wall, processing that signal is always going to be inferior to what the driver does instinctively anyway. Drivers constantly getting angry at engineers yapping under breaking/cornering could have told them this. So the fear that they had of the driver skill being insignificant towards the outcome is completely unfounded.

I think it was absurd. “Alone and unaided” shouldn’t be a thing at all in a series like F1 where the constructors are just as important as the drivers. F1 is already behind other series in that it doesn’t have spotters around the track for teams. F1 is not a spec series. It’s not a “the best driver wins” series, it’s a “the best team wins” series.
