Of all Scorsese s movies I find RB the most difficult to watch , because we all are capable of behaving the same way as la Motta does out of the ring. And we all hear of men (I use the term "men" in its broadest sense) as Steven Bach rightly called La Motta in Final Cut : the unmaking of heavens Gate. LM is nuts he absolutely has no redeeming features. Now that sounds like I think it is a terrible movie. It isn't , but unlike Scorsese gangsters-which we look at almost forensically and their often very funny none pc exchanges. RB dosent give us a let up it's two hours of misery .it's also remarkable, brilliant and superbly put together

Great analysis. I always read the beating he takes from Sugar Ray in that ultimate fight as a form of penance for his actions throughout the movie.
