This was a very enjoyable video! In my 20 years of 40k Fandom, the Imperial Assassins are among my favorite things in the verse; they about tie with the Inquisition, and rest right below my beloved Rogue Traders. There are times I question their methods; how can a Callidus move among the GSC, Eldar, Tau, or Orks, without being "detected"? Do the Vanus supply Intel for ALL the clades, or just their own, and then how do the others find the places they need to go, if Inquisitors haven't discovered a problem, yet? Still, each is awesome, in their own ways, whether assassinating a leader, and then impersonating them, to further topple the organization, drop them wirh a single shot, or compel them to literally rip their own veins out, rather then face them. They can't be their full awesome in table top, because then the game wouldn't be fun, but they are still great. On a side note, I wonder if this program will ever cover the Imperium's roving conquistadors; the Rogue Traders? The power of pure human ambition, coupled with some of the best resources the Imperium has, and without the frequent shortages. I've been gaming RPGs for the better part of 30 years; mfrom D&D to White Wolf, 40k and Star Wars, but my singular, most advanced, and involved, character was my self-insert Rogue Trader. The game never happened, so I had the freedom to write for him, and his character sheet is over 45 pages of kit, allies, resources, and exploits. Hrs honestly a little too anime, with some noblebright, for some 40k fans, but still one of my favorite personal creations, and I'd love to see a video referencing the lore of his peers; my favorite thing in 40k.
@Scholarslore10 ай бұрын
Thank you! I do really enjoy the assassins lore as well. I think some suspension of disbelief is needed for the Callidus techniques, since in the setting, I would assume that psykers would be able to fairly easily detect them whilst disguised. But for mingling about with the Tau it would probably be a bit easier, since they've probably had some rather comprehensive training on Tau behaviour, and if they've been polymorphined up, then they should be fairly indistinguishable from the rest of the Tau. Also, even though I couldn't find a direct source for this (I did check because I was wondering the same thing), but I would guess that the Vanus agents DO supply the rest of the clades/organisations with intel. It would only make sense that the largest and most expert signals group within the setting would also be helping out the other agencies. At some point I will cover the Rogue Traders, in fact its been on my list for a long while now. I have a half-formed script of a series of short stories from some rogue trader adventures, but its about half a year old now and I've forgotten whats actually written in it. But yes, soon I'll cover them in some actual detail.

We've got an UltraMegaSuperAssassin located on a planet. Let's seed chaos elements with our full support into the society to create ... chaos ... then we'll put Inquisitors to investigate the chaos elements then we'll use an Imperial assassin to murder the Inquisitors and blame it on the Chaos elements in order to force the ultimate assassin threat to the Empire to come out of hiding and then we'll send in an entire Space Marine legion to kill the ultimate threat assassin (and clean up the chaos elements that we seeded onto the planet). What do you think? (silence with occasional insects chirping in the background) Or ... we could just order an Exterminatus to the world and send in the army to sort through the ashes. (roaring applause and approval). If it's a threat to the Empire, just burn the planet. Other planets have been destroyed for far less, so ... Keep it simple.

Honestly, the fact that the Imperium was willing to lure in Chaos forces to the planet that the Maerorus subject was hiding in to flush her out, and presumably at least suspecting some amount of the unpredictability that such an encounter would result in, this honestly seemed liked a situation in which a pre-emptive Exterminatus would actually be justified. Given that the assassin temple was an assassin temple, meaning that it had some level of influence in the Imperium (to be able to authorize the transfer and selling of STCs and stuff as part of their failed deal with the Admech for example), it should've been straightforward enough for them to get into contact with someone that had Exterminatus authority (like an inquisitor or chapter master) and convince them to carry it out, using the justification that the Maerorus was really the result of Chaos experimentation made by a Chaos group that had *absolutely nothing to do with the assassin temple itself haha yes really trust us bro* in order to give just enough information to convince them that it is a threat that warrants Exterminatus given the implications of the experiment's abilities.

Does anyone else remember the early days of WH40k that featured the storyline "War of the Assassins" where the entire assassin order went to war with itself over the two proposed new grandmasters of the Ordo Assassinorum? Apparently the Imperial Palace itself became a battlefield of warring factions of assassins, who fought for whichever Grand Assassin they were favouring at the time. Fantastic story, and one that would make a truly awesome game within the WH40k game system. Imagine something like Kill Team or regular WH40k, only using assassins instead of Astra Militarum/Adeptus Astartes or any other army :-)

@@dennishogan5696 I have no idea what E.Y.E is. I just remember the early days when Rogue Trader was still in its infancy, and they were writing amazing stories about the Imperial History and background, before it became what we know as WH40K today. I still remember the Mad max style game they had, called Dark Future (I have the two novels by jack Yeovil, Demon Download and Krokodil Tears, which are still fun to read today), and how White Dwarf had D&D scenarios and minis painted from other manufacturers, many done by John Blanche himself, and other painters who used both oil and enamel paints, as acrylic paints weren't as popular then. White Dwarf used to have little storylines before their articles, which were often more exciting than the articles themselves. Then again, I've been in the hobby since 1972, so remember quite a lot more of the early Rogue Trader days than many do today.
