I dont like to use one of these references but it feels like a perfect time: You know that family guy joke where Bill Clinton is such a smooth talker everyone wakes up in bed with him having realized he just seduced them and they had sex? Then they say "ohhhh he's good." Guilliman is that, but on a galactic scale. Entire planets wake up to the realization that they are now better places to live and better human beings, almost against their will. Guillermen got Dante on his side and well everyone loves Dante even the black Templars love Dante. Other chapter masters have actively ceded control of war zones to him just because of how much they trust him if Dante charging into the middle of a war zone between the orcs, the necrons andTyranids and fighting all of them at the same time. It was a good idea even the black Templars , the dark angels and the white would follow believing him to have made the right decision and that somehow it will work out, so since Papa blue has Dante on his side, he has the entire imperial military to back him by default.

Imperium Nihilus is not at ALL "lost". It's half the Imperium, which despite its mighty fall from its heyday, is currently still the most powerful faction. Not counting the tyrannid fleets that haven't arrived or the Necron tombs that haven't awoken. It may be chaotic, it may be burning, but it is very much still alive.

Yes and No. It cannot function as a cohesive unit because of all the problems with navigation and communication as well as the raids and encroaching chaotic corruption. A star system in the "Light" imperium can muster about as much power as a whole sector in the "Dark" imperium. Also, naturally the "light" imperium having Earth, Mars and Ultramar was extremely politically important and heavily developed sprawling out from those central hubs, so they were already on paper the stronger part of the Imperium without all the other issues. So while I agree with you that its not as if its totally gone, its not anything to be optimistic about, definitely not the "equal sister half" of the imperium. Why would you choose the Lion to oversee the Imperial military? There is likely no being in the entire w40k universe that would be better suited for that job than Guilliman, except for maybe the consciousness that controls the Tyranids. The Imperium has trillions of soldiers, millions of warships, roughly 1 million planets, and their territory stretches from one side of the galaxy to the other. Being in command of such a cartoonishly large military would necessitate a series of supply lines and logistics so complex that modern supercomputers couldn't even hope to analyze the situation, let alone find solutions. And this isn't the crusade era where the Imperium didn't have any real existential threats to contend with. They have thousands of ongoing wars with a wide variety of threats. You don't want a noble knight for that job, and you don't want to waste the best 1-on-1 fighter mankind has at it's disposal by making him spend his days in a command center looking over maps. Put Guilliman in charge of the grand strategic picture, and let the Lion do his own thing. That's what he wants, anyway. He doesn't want to rule, he wants to use his talents to protect the weak from monstrous beings like Angron.

Gulliman is the man for the job because he can organize everything, in the literal sense. He knows what need to be achieved, what he realistically can achieve with the resources at hand what need to be done immediately. Gulliman can do that because like Lionel said, he and Dorn are one of the few primarchs whose don't let their decisions affected by their emotions. He knows that even if something is important, if there is nothing he can do a about it, there is no point rushing it, it's a problem for the future. He's also very good at reading people. In the space Marines conquest apocalypse book, Gulliman set up a team of White scar, imperial fist and Raven guard on a mission. You wouldn't think that trio would get along with each other but the veteran white scar Space Marines knows how to break the ice and make the other two feel comfortable speaking out their opinions. And each of them offer something to the mission. The white scar knows how to attract the attention of the crowd from joking teasing to intimidation, the Imperial Fist guy doing the planning and only answer when asked and when the party is over the Raven guard Marine walk up to the crew and ask if they want him to remove that one annoying noble over there. Gulliman just know how to make people work as a team.

Expanding Ultramar - is the sinlge best thing one could do. There are 2 strategic reasons: 1. The possible failure that is the empire is maybe immanent. Then humanity has one stronghold that is... really strong and well organized. This bastion can survive. 2. If the imperium won't fall - and I predict that one - then Ultramar will be its organs. Hospital worlds, inventions, science replacing blind faith, organized production chains. Ultramar can and will spit out equipment and ideas that can revolutionize the empire. But for doing that Ultramar must be its own master.

A Primarch's ego needs to be kept in check, but when the only people with enough knowledge, intelligence and power to actually give good advice/criticism to Guilliman are power-hungry schemers who have caused the downfall of the Empire, I would definitely put my trust in Papa Smurf. On top of that, Girlyman has had a shitload of blows to his ego in the few years since he woke up from his power nap. From needing the so hated Ecclesiarchy, falling into depression just from watching the state of the Imperium to quite literally dying again to Mortarion and having to form loose alliances with the scheming Eldars and Cawl, Guilliman at the moment seems far from becoming a terrible tyrant.

What is Ultramar. It's a stronghold, a bastion of the Imperium. Expanding it's borders and putting his sons in charge of it, defending it means it's a self maintained, well guarded stronghold he doesn't have to worry (as much) about. He can use it to resupply, retreat to if needed. It has survived and kept it's history and traditions while maintaining most of it's territory over the last 10k years. With Ultramar secure Guilliman can focus on the Sol system and the rest of the Imperium still thats still open. The Imperium is simply to big to secure and hit Chaos all at once. He needs to focus his resources. Adding another primarch would allow the forces to be split and run independently but focused on the same goal, secure the Imperium entirely then push into the Eye of Terror.

I think that with the return of the Lion, the political view will change. They will pretty much have to take a knee and forget about regaining their previous power. Guilliman was appointed by the emperor as the lord commander this time I don't think the lion is going to challenge that. But I do see the Lion taking over as the as the one handling the military side of things. Given how thing are I see what Guilliman is doing, he's stabilizing the Imperium and reinforcing parts of the Imperium. Dante was more then symbolic. Danta's building up a sizeable force and his authority is almost unlimited, when combined with his legend known across the Imperium, people will fall in with him. I be more worried that the Lion might act as Guilliman's enforcer, they will argue but the can always argee on a strategy.

Who knows how he is written but the Lion but I feel he is easily smart enough to know what is going on and almost laugh when he is getting updates on everything and they give him the information of what G is doing and just be thinking "ah brother, at it again are we?" I do not get all this The Lion being mad at Guilliman vibe. The Lion was the Warmaster for Seconds. He approved of it. The Lion would be mad at Guilliman for playing politics and not just killing the High lords and Church but I don't think he would have a big issue otherwise. Maybe question military decisions Guilliman has made. As long as Guilliman turned over the military affairs to him, the Lion would be fine. I hope GW does not create a civil war among loyalists. It would be nice to have the Lion return along with another. Then make the demon Primarchs more active.

I understand the need for primaris but so many of the big names from alot of chapters have crossed the Rubicon what if bela cawl did put in some kind of fail safe or override and finds out about the great lie that the emporer is not and has never been the omnissiah and the mechanicus rise up and none of the primaris can fight them

We need the lion and Dante to team up. Dante is the oldest space marine and he try’s to embody sangunius. The lion had great respect for Sanguinius, and only agreed to be apart of imperium secundas, because Sangunis would be “emperor”.

Its simple problem solving, for either of them to start bickering would cause the imperium to fall on its ass even more, and I think they would both understand that even though they may have different viewpoints. Especially when the lions sees how far gone man has fallen.

The Lion will at first be against Roboutes actions but after some time accept is the only way. Same if Russ come back. Roboute really needs a Primarch like Dorn and the Imperium needs Magnus the most of all due to his nature

God forbid that someone that is a planner, consolidates his power before turning into repairing what he doesn't own. At the very least, unlike so many others, the Lion included, that up and gave up on the Imperium (what else would you count as GOING TO FREAKING SLEEP?) HA! Roboute the instant he returned did what he was best at, find out what he had and build up upon it...even if what he was best at, pisses off others. I pray the Lord of Winds comes back instead of sleepy head, at least the Khan would do what Roboute cannot currently, HUNT the enemies that threaten the enemy and disrupt the plans of Guilliman to build a force that Chaos crashes against.

I’m no RG fanboy (he’s not even one of my favorite Primarchs) but I feel like the characterization here assumes the POV of the Hexarchy and other leaders that are threatened by this renewed effort since RG returned. There is no book or other characterization of RG that would lead me to assume his empire building has ever been self-serving. You could argue he should focus his efforts less on his own territory but in his mind he’s creating a bastion. It’s not like he’s doing it for personal gain, and arguably his opponents are in the wrong here (as you say). So is he making mistakes? Or is he doing what he’s in effect been programmed to do to a degree? Just because action has unintended or negative consequences (e.g., political turmoil interfering with reclaiming the Imperium) doesn’t mean his decisions were mistakes which implies they were wrong. That just means maybe the execution could be better. And the Lion may well react like he did in the Imperium Secundus situation, but this situation is different. Then, they had no way to know who was a traitor and who wasn’t. This is a completely different situation and for the Lion to react the same way would be shortsighted (and dumb from a story perspective as that’s just creating unnecessary drama). Just my two cents though.

Guilliman did go a bit extreme but have to take a look at it from his point of view. Imagine how extremely confused Guilliman was when he found out that the Imperium went from staunch atheist to fanatical believers in the Emperor's divinity. That would be a lot to handle.
