This video INSTANTLY improved my shots. I continue this process and am watching my groupings tightening up. I’ve never commented on KZbin in my life, but I feel so compelled to do so here. I am only a few months into my practice, but this has been extremely helpful. Thank you!!

I'm a beginner and have made the school of nock my coach! Before my shot now, I can hear John's voice going through the list in my head. It has made physically going through my shot so much easier when the mental side is all figured out. "The MANTRA" Thanks Mr Dudley from Australia!!

A solid front shoulder and keeping a strong tension in the back wall is super key for me. But the tip about saying a mantra to yourself really helps me quiet the mind from too many thoughts going on and it allows me to just finish the shot relaxed. Being relaxed helps prevent grabbing the bow as it goes off, torquing, punching, etc., for better shots.

A consistent approach builds consistent results! I am glad I found out about the School of Nock and started getting more consistent results. Thank you for taking the time to educate those of us who have not had a coach talking us through the shot process!

I love the training que that you demostrated. Verbal ques followed by visiual ques and adding up to developing muscle memory. Great tools to employ. Many people are good archers but they can not verbalize their knowlegde into a teachable conversation. I have been working on my shoot process and will use a version of your 6 steps to improve. Thanks. You also reiterated key pionts about the shoulder. I need to work on improving my shoulder position in my process. Thanks again.

I recently started using this shot process and have added something. I was pretty sore and stiff after shooting much more than normal for a couple weeks and was due for my massage. I have an amazing massage therapist who is also an RN and has some physical therapy knowledge as well. She knows her stuff! When I told her what to work on and why, she suggested that I be conscious of my core (pulling your abs in), at all times but especially when shooting archery. Our core is something that most people do not pay attention to. So between "Grip" and "Shoulder", I do "Core". For me, it seems to help my stance by making me stand straighter which makes me feel more confident in my stance. This may all be in my head but overall, it just seems like I'm using my muscles in a more balanced manner.

Great, Steve! I am glad you have found something in your shot process that helps you achieve better posture. Nice work!

I am very new to archery and in watching your videos feel as though I have a coach by my side. I absolutely love this 6 step process. It makes sense and is memorable. You are a great instructor! One question I have is how do I position my left (grip) arm? Straight and locked? Bent? How much. Elbow twisted at all? What achieves proper draw length but keeps your forearm out of the string's way?

Hey John, I adopted the mnemonic (or variations of) from you since the very beginning. It SMASHED the learning curve for me. Thank You !! However, IMHO you missed one/oversight - and it's a 'Biggie' - **"Breathing"** . It may sound benign to some but for me it's ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL. After I mastered (Muscle Memoried) the list -- very recently I might add, I've been trying numerous breathing rhythms from the instant I draw back thru follow through. I haven't solidified it yet...but I'm real close...and now I have a NEW BOW, Lols. So I'm gonna put the breathing issue 'somewhat' on the backburner for a couple weeks cause I'm a man and can only focus on one thing at a time. But you can bet I'll be right back to codifying the breathing sequence - once I get a feel of the New **'Sexy Bow Beast'** . Thanks again, Rock On Nock On ! John

It’s a weird feeling as a beginner knowing all these things that need to be done so many hundreds and thousands of times so that they become second nature and automatic. There’s no shortcuts, only mileage.

Don’t they say it takes 5,000 reps to build a habit? You’re dead on, it’s about perfect practice NOT practice makes perfect

@@billbee235 I know they say 10,000 hours to master something, not sure about the reps. I should have kept count! 😆

How long it's going to take to be "automatic" ? Thanks in advance for all answers. 👍
@nockonarchery2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if anybody ever gets to "automatic". Even the greatest athletes in their sports put in intense number of reps and have processes in place to help them perform at a very high level. To be honest, I feel that those who are willing to put in the work and stay disciplined are those that achieve the highest level of success. Keep up the good work!
@atalayefeangin2 жыл бұрын
@@nockonarchery Thank you very much. it explains a lot, means never stop working on yourself and never let the auto-pilot take-over the control but in this case new question; How long it's going to take to be "not-automatic" to never forget the process or is there such a thing like that😊
