I am unaware of anyone in the archery community who does a better job of clearly explaining essential concepts. Oh, and he never seems to miss his targets. Yes, he's not only a good teacher, he's crazy accurate, too. When The Dudley teaches, listen.

These videos have been so helpful in understanding the components of the bow and the many options out there to guide decision making. It’s my 2nd year shooting a compound bow and the Learning Archery 101 videos were an absolute game changer for how I shoot and significantly improved my accuracy. There are no other videos out there I’ve seen that communicate as effectively as these.

Being a new Compound* archer peep sights are a new experience coming from shooting recurve. Clear accurate words of advice that makes it easy to remember when picking up my new bow. Legend mate thank you !
@crossbowhunter91182 жыл бұрын
When I first started shooting compound I did not start out with using a peep sight I must have shot 3-4 years before my archery shop told me about a peep. I also shot fingers for 2 years then I got into the index finger style release. Shot that for a long time now I am using a different release. That hinge release that I use is great I highly recommend it. But it will take time to be able to shoot one you use different muscles than a index finger style. But you don’t punch the trigger with the hinge. You aim at the target and don’t stop pulling back the hinge. At a certain point it will fire. I was told you don’t want to be anticipating the shot or you will flinch and go off target you want to be surprised when it goes off.

I’m a big fan of the total peep, if you’ll notice as the camera pans across all the peep sights the total peep you are able to see a perfect circle the entire time it’s in frame, so when it’s in the string and you come to full draw even if your peep is twisted a little bit it doesn’t affect the sight picture unless it’s way outa whack, but I would be willing to bet it’s probably also one of the heavier peeps on the table but I’m not 100% on that one. Solid video as always 🤘

second total peep, Also love hamskea raptor but I've never been able to get it be 100% straight at full draw. I can get it darn close, that's where the total peep shines can be slightly off and still see everything to align it.

The peep is a help. I have the Square Up rear sight on three of my bows and they are tackdrivers. You line up the two vertical wires with the level in your sight and you instantly know if your twisting you wrist. Using a bow without the rear sight is the same as shooting skeet with my over/under shotgun.

Can also shrink a peep hole with lamp black and epoxy. Take a beer can, hold a lighter/candle close to the bottom, collect some lamp black, turn over and mix a little epoxy in the 'bowl' of the can. With a needle, apply a little black epoxy all around the inside of the peep. If the hole is not round or too small, wait until the epoxy sets and drill it out with the right-sized bit.

my PSE Embark has been having lots of string issues , peep twist my serving coming off , my bow shop sucks majorly , he set my first bow up wrong , how many archers has he set their bows up wrong , how many people gave up on archery due to not knowing the issues with their bows, we want to get more people into archery to grow the sport ! im sure he has set up new archers bows wrong and they got frusterated and gave up on archery. my PSE Embark is a nice bow , but the bow shop guy is a know it all , he tied my D loop on wrong , my cam timing was a 1/2 inch out , my rest timing was wrong , my sight that came on my pse embark was broken. micro adjust was not working , and it was missing the light . my string stop was a quarter inch away from the bow string , John i need some help , this shop is setting up new archers for failure ! i talked to someone at PSE and they said oh jake wouldnt let anyones bow leave the shop unless it was perfect ,then pse guy said, he has worked on my bow many times , then the bow shop billed me for fixing their shotty work, thanks for everything you do for the archery community !

I have a peep question John, I have always set up my peep to fit the site scope at 20 yards. I use a single pin adjustable sight and when i start to move the pin down for longer shots the housing starts to not line up as well. Should my head be adjusting to still see the site housing perfect aligned with the peep or should i stay where it would normally line up and only be able to see the part of the scope.

I’m far sighted, so I have great vision except for what’s right under my nose. I use a Specialty Archery 1/4” peep with a verifier in it and have at least 15K arrows through that type of setup. Besides targets and 3D, I have also hunted with this set up with no issues. That includes, dirt, dust, rain, and snow. Not once have I ever had anything occlude my peep hindering my ability to see through it. I would like to try a 3/16 set up, but at nearly $100 CDN for all the components, I am hesitant to spend that much, switch my bows and set ups on an experiment that may or may not work for me.

Awesome info on peep sights. I’m just getting started into archery and planning on a hunt with my father in law next year. I’m currently using a 1/4” tru peep and its just on the outside ring of my front site. But I like the idea of going a bit smaller so it’s on the in inner ring of the front sight when aligned properly

Thank you! How about a single pin slider vs multiple pins sight, if you eclipse your peep on both, wouldn’t the results be different? I’ve mainly used multiple pin sights and always centered the pin for the desired distance in the peep (before watching this) which would be the same concept as eclipsing the sight on a single pin at all distance. I guess my question is do you still eclipse on multiple pin sights?
@kev69162 ай бұрын
Im not bullshitting I have been shooting archery for about 20 years and I'm 26. I have always thought you were supposed to put the bottom of the peep sight where the pin is. so your telling me I have been carrying this bad habit for 20 years.....

Appreciate all the education you put out. It’s really making a difference for my journey. One question - should my peep be a perfect eclipse over my slider set at 20yds and then at higher yardage say 80 yds? Mine ends up being half eclipse when I shoot out further.

I shoot a hinge release. At full draw my anchor point is not the same as when I shoot a index finger style release. I do run a peep sight. In order for me to see the sight I have to move my hand with my release in it down slightly what does that mean? Is that normal for my anchor point not to be the same with the index finger style release and the other one? I shoot my hinge in the off season at the archery shop and target practice then I will hunt with my index style release.

So after 30+ years of bow hunting I now wear glasses and hate it. Would it work getting a peep with a clarification lense so I could stop wearing the glasses when shooting?

Is it better to shoot with both eyes open or is it better to close you're non dominant eye and shoot
@robboss18392 жыл бұрын
That depends on eye dominance and which sport. Competitive shooters block there off eye to simulate it being closed without the eye strain. As a hunter the extra situational awareness is great as well as reduced eye strain, but that’s only if your eye dominance matches your hand dominance

I had my peep site installed recently and having never shot a bow before , been asked at the bow shop if it looked right made no sense. What would I know 🤷♀ can see straight thru it but then it screws up my anchor position. Guessing that means it’s in the wrong position?! Advice anyone?

Do you need a peep sight for accuracy or can you go without?
@xNamikazeMinatox11 ай бұрын
If you are consistent enough with your Anchor point, it should not make that much of a difference. With recurve you dont use a peep. Long time since i shot with a recurve but consistently hit yellow.

Thanks for the info ..... the clarifier combinations with lenses was a major break thru in long range refined sight picture. You can actually see the target lines out past 50 yards when the combination of glass is just right for the conditions. I carry a peep kit along with changeable apertures so any shoot event can have lighting where a different size may work ... ie. larger hole for indoors when it seems much more dark than outside shoots.
