I dress well for work (accounting and finance) as a form of rebellion against the casual dressers. Back in the day, if you dressed in jeans and a t-shirt you were rebelling. Now, if you dress well you're rebelling.

I agree. In fact, an elegant man dresses for himself A vain/silly person who dresses well wants to impress people and expects to be complimented; a truly elegant and respectable man does it for himself because it is the right thing to do, never mind what the people may say, dress and conduct yourself with dignity.
@martinbugge62202 ай бұрын
Will you then stop dressing "well", if that becomes the normal again? Is it rebellion, or dressing well that is important? Casual usually comes with comfort.
@gregguralnik25122 жыл бұрын
Agreed on "dressing well gives you more life, freedom and expression." I dress up now on a regular, more than before. I love how I look when I'm dressed in a well-tailored suit, clean shirt and a tie and I feel spectacular. I don't do it for attention, even though I do attract some here and there, I dress up because I like to look nice. Also, a good idea, add a tie bar and a pocket square to your outfit and you will look very sharp.
@jazzman1626 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree that dressing smartly makes you feel good. It boosts my confidence and I find people in hotels and shops etc. treat me with more respect than when I didn’t bother about how I looked. I got stopped by a gentleman one day, and complimented on my Harris Tweed coat. The thing I like best though, is what I call ‘the silent compliment’ from women. Their expression says it all, especially when I’m wearing a crisp white, pure cotton, tailored dress shirt. A mirror shine on my shoes makes a big difference too.

Agreed about the pocket square, but the tie bar could make you look like the assistant manager at Applebee's.

I watch films and documentaries from the 40's 50's and even 60's and always notice gentlemen dressed in suits, even to go to the grocery store, regardless of race or financial status.

Even when I'm alone at the office or when I know I'm not going to see a single human face during the day I dress in a suit (or a combination), a dress shirt with tie and cufflinks and dress shoes. Very important too: a good shave in the morning. Your whole demeanour and your posture change - it's almost like a uniform. Without it, it would be sliders, T-shirt and a jogging suit very soon and I would not shave anymore. No thanks.

Sir Richard, you're absolutely right on all points. So-called Men in the year 2021 don't know, or have the slightest clue on how to dress... Also, if any man wants immediate respect, wear a dress shirt with Tie, a nice belt, & clean shoes... apart from that, ANY man wearing Work Boots also has the same effect, & that's fact.

I agree 110% with this. Dressing well is extremely important when you are starting out and establishing yourself. Another way to put it is the saying ‘fake it till you make it’. Once you have achieved what you want to achieve. Dress how you like. But always be neat, clean and respectful.

What you wear is an extension of your brand and professionalism - demonstrate who you are from the moment you walk in to a room by being well-groomed, neatly presented and professional

@@richardgeorgetailoring You’re absolutely right. I just attended a meeting where a lot of pennys are going to change hand. Lululemon pants and a coffee t shirt. In fact, all my meetings are like this. People that deal with me know who I am and have full respect of the situation. Believe me. Clothes do not make a difference in these situations. They do at lower levels but not top tier. True that one should be neat and clean. But, true captains don’t care about ‘attire’ and immediately see through any bullshit and just want to cut to the chase.

@@jasonkrick1614 Do you feel like the lululemons and tshirts is a new thing in a post-covid world or has it always been this way?
@jasonkrick16145 ай бұрын
@@richardgeorgetailoring I wear nothing but lululemon and kit and ace pants pretty much everywhere I go. The cafe, bistro, swanky dinner, business meetings, black tie. But you have to be careful. Especially when you’re young and wanting to climb the ladder. This is where dress is very important. It does show you have self respect and attention to detail. Depending on the profession or career you’re in. I used to be the young guy in a circle of hyper successful, and I mean hyper successful, people. They all dressed like bums. And I was the best dressed. Perspectively. As I got more comfortable in the group. I started to dress more like them. Clean but looking like bums. This is where you develop friendships and contacts. Look at Gates and Buffet. They’re friends not just because they’re mega wealthy. But they have something in common. And they’re dressed mildly upscale casual. Musk? He dresses like a really old college kid. When you achieve a certain pinnacle in life. Appearance becomes less important and substance takes over. But again, you need to establish a reputation and relationship before doing so. In reality, a very well dressed man is a sign of insecurity. It’s a sign that they need to put on all this crap in order to make a difference. Like the quote from ‘Suits’. A suit is the gentleman’s armor. Which is very true. Thus, be careful of the man who walks into a room full of suits that is wearing jeans and a t shirt. Because he has no need for armor and is one bad mother fucker. Hope this helps a little.

I work in an industry where dressing like this is not seen in a positive light and people will actually mistake you for the obstructive pencil pusher or the typical office douche. Anyone should still find what makes them confident in the environment that their in. What this guy is showing is perfect for a funeral, a marriage (in colder climates), a finance meeting, or a meeting with clients and other investors (in an office with AC). Do not dress like this if it will make you sweaty (warmer climates). There are lighter options that may seem more casual but still work. Also, do not dress like this if it's going to keep nervous or distracted (if it is tailor made, it shouldn't unless it's wrong, or you're using it wrong, don't play soccer with it no matter how confident it makes you feel)
