You are a generous and excellent teacher. Thank you for taking your very valuable time to share your knowledge with us. I'm an adult who took up cello a bit over a year ago. I live in a place where one cannot find a teacher, nor a string shop, and there is one luthier in town with many health problems. You can't perhaps imagine the impact having someone like you to have so "near" and willing to share advice and demonstrate various concepts/techniques with such clarity and generosity. It is a beautiful thing. And it means the world to so many. Also, your playing is so expressive and beautiful.

I use that technique as well. Once a violinist colleague asked me why I played the last two identical notes of an orchestral cello solo with different fingerings, I told her because I wanted the vibrato to sound different on the last note. It's a great point, Pablo!!

there's a really good video of Rostropovich doing this on the very last note of Dvorak concerto, where he transitions from 3-2-1 so his vibrato could get wider and wider. Unfortunately I think the video got taken down, I can't find the performance anymore. All the other live Dvorak Rostro performances don't show his fingers during this passage

The expressive substitution is a good way to emulate a similar technique that singers do, making whatever you are playing sound more vocal, which is always a good thing
