Mate you speak a lot of sense. As a huge fan of Infant Annihilator all I can say is that their music has had more of a profound influence on my taste in all things death metal related than any other artists in the last 10 years. Dickie Allen's vocals are the best, end of. As for the absolute beasts Eddie and Aaron, they are among the top musicians of metal in all genres of all time in my opinion. And I've been DJing for 20 plus years in metal, punk, dnb, electronica and reggae. Following.

Dickie Allen is such an interesting and insanely talented vocalist. He popularized many of the noises and snarls that you hear today. Without the Goblin King, you wouldnt have people today (like me lol) making these high pitched, wet goblin vocals. I genuinely think he and Travis Ryan will go down in metal history as the most influential vocalists in extreme metal.

there is no denying the influence infant annihilator have had on vocals in the modern wave of deathcore. Ben duerr(shadow of intent), alex terrible(slaughter to prevail) and will ramos(lorna shore) just to name a few have all mentioned dan watson as one of their inspirations. will and alex even have several covers of infant annihilator from years before they got famous themselves. to me infant annihilator is the defenition of deathcore, though the term predates them i feel like they set it in stone and planted the seeds for the modern wave of deathcore.

A lot of people discredit IA for what they've done for the scene. Whether you like how over the top they are or not, you simply wouldn't have the heaviness that's present in modern heavy bands like Slaughter to Prevail, Signs of the Swarm, Lorna Shore, etc. without IA. And that stands both for vocals and instrumentals.

​@novoice9286 while I love alex and STP and have since their first EP, Infant Annihilator's first album came out 4 years prior to STP's first EP. Not to mention IA was doing MSF before that. On top of this, Alex was doing IA covers before STP had even released anything. Again, not to take away from Alex and STP, they've also been highly influential.

However, I think it's somewhat irrelevant in this context, as, I'm commenting on IA's influence on bands that sprouted after them, not what may or may not have influenced IA. E.g. IA could've been influenced by underground slam but that doesn't change the fact that the production quality paired with the hyperbolic intensity of IA (in every aspect of the band) was extremely influential to the modern deathcore scene. Especially when compared to less palatable underground extreme bands

On top of all that there's the creativity, constant changes to the sound and lyrics which makes it never repetitive unlike most very technical bands while still remaining very harmonic. They became my favorite band since the second album and managed to realease a third which is just as good.

From someone who was heavy in the scene when this band erupted onto the landscape I can honestly say that no matter the view of the band EVERYONE was utterly decimated and blown into another galaxy. There was nothing like this, at this level, this depravity, this complexity. It changed music forever.

Honesty i've been thinking about this very recently and even tried to find some info on the topic, because this to me is quite an interesting conversation. I feel like they are one of the biggest influences on modern deathcore in terms of nearly all aspects (sound production, craziest vocals possible, an insane speed and technicality and the general shock value of the music) and was surprised that there are very few people that actually realise that and mention them when the topic of modern deathcore is brought up at all. It's great that you made this video and talked about this, although i think it'd be even cooler if you could show some concrete examples of their impact and influence (the most obvious one is the final breakdown in To the Hellfire) and sort of go beyond the surface, but i guess not everyone is willing to go this far and kinda nerdy

As for me, Infant Annihilator is a very individual group in their sound from the period of 2012 to 2019, the group was lucky to have a technical and fast drummer Aaron Kitcher and guitarist Eddie Pickard. When I listen to their tracks and albums, I always wonder how they created these tracks? How much work did all group members need to put in? And what result did they get after this? For me, this band seemed on the good side, machine-gun drums, randomly built chaotic guitar riffs, fast solos, and damn brutal roars and screams, That's why I like to listen to the work of Infant Anihilator, and I'm looking forward to the release of their new album, but unfortunately there is no news about the group or the participants themselves

I always considered IA's debut to be the beginning of a new era for deathcore. That album ushered in a new wave of bands writing the most over the top, whackiest shit possible, with over the top production to match. It was a blessing and a curse for the genre, if you ask me. The song writing and riffs got significantly more technical in the genre, but the pristine robotic like production really killed most of those bands for me. I loved the raw sound of old school deathcore, and a lot of bands these days don't have that unless you're purposely going for that sound, like Tracheotomy, who I love. But it seemed everyone was trying to be the next Infant Annihilator for a long time within deathcore, and it got tiring real quick. That album still has its grip on the genre to this day, with bands trying to be as brutal and over the top as possible with all vocalists mimicking Travis Ryan to a T.

Also I need to say that dickies vocals interested me the most out of anything tho, what ever he was doing in those songs got me to listen very closely like 1000 times to every single song in the elysian and the battle of yald over and over. To this they they're still the most extreme thing I've ever listen to that I consider metal but they're more like horror music ❤ thank you for making this I need more about them

Everybody is always comparing them to deathcore bands (and rightfully so) but when I listen to them, especially The Battle of Yaldabaoth, I can hear a lot of Bal-Sagoth influence that nobody seems to pick up on, possibly because they probably have very little fan overlap. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but from the riffs in Three Bastards to song titles like "The Kingdom Sitteth Lonely Beneath Thine Hollowed Heavens" I can't help but think that there must be some influence there. Both bands are from Yorkshire, England as well. I don't know man maybe I'm just crazy.

The only thing that elevates any band from hitting that "wall" is to be more aggressive in your compositions and technically playing. IA continues to do that with The Battle of Yaldabaoth and I believe thanks to Eddie Pickard classical ear - we're going to continue to hear that in their future.

Dickie Allen is a fantastic vocalist but i dont see many other people talk about the other band members. Eddie is a SCARY good guitarist. And Aaron is inhuman in his drumming speed. "bUt hE uSeS tRigGeRs" shut up. even with triggers that shit is incredible.

Suicie silence first got me into deathcore metal because of Luckers screams and how their LP the cleansing sounded but I fell off until 2022 about 10 years after his death but the song decapitation 4nacation and the albums E.G.G. and B.O.Y. every song dickie allen was in got me way back into the genre. I dunno why but the extreme sound and speed and vocals and the fact they were self produced was too much for me 😅 it was hilarious and grotesque and I absolutely loved the music and vocals ❤️

Good video. The satirical nature of this band perfectly contrasts the cringey, overly serious bands of certain other metal sub genres. Death metal and deathcore have never been that serious. One problem that these genres have though is, like you said, the battle to the top in terms of loudness/heaviness. I feel like the satirical nature of IA was a wake up call in that regard. Like make good music, not purely heavy music. It’s actually impressive how IA pull off this level of heaviness and grotesqueness that’s near parody and yet somehow it still sounds amazing. Where as most other bands would just sound ridiculous. And that’s the point I think. They’re an ironic band that are unironically loved. The thing about the best deathcore bands like Lorna is that I don’t think they use IA as a “benchmark” to how heavy or disgusting they have to be. But rather they use them as an influence but maintain their own unique style and lyricism.

I think the only way IA will be able to able to “out sell” themselves is if they go back to their sound on The PLOP. It was equally as chaotic and heavy as what they did on The EGG or The BOY, but it had a more classic MySpace Deathcore sound.

Infant are interesting. To me, the whole " being as extreme as possible all the time with no room to breath" got boring very very fast. None of the breakdowns felt earned, nothing was memorable. If I want that very extreme style of Deathcore, I much rather listen to the first three Signs Of The Swarm albums or " The God Delusion" by A Night In Texas. Just far better songwriting imho. They are also responsible for vocals just being an extreme sport ( and insanely overproduced) instead of serving the song

They were just one of the loudest voices in the emerging technical deathmetal scene that was developing 10+ years ago. People were taking tech death like necrophagist and adding breakdowns. It's hard to remember everything I was listening to 10 years ago but there were a lot. Beneath the massacre, science of sleep, applaud the impaler, boris the blade, veil of maya's common mans collapse, and tons more had the same idea at the same time ia made their first album. ia just got the most attention
