As a Russian citizen who's against the war, I think Finland with their bunkers and luxury bomb shelters is well prepared for war by itself. Criminal putin is stuck in Ukraine for long time, so Finland and Sweden have plenty of time to be prepared. I would be more concerned about Baltic States rather than Sweden and Finland. Baltic States are small and cut from their allies. Moldova should be concerned more, because if criminal putin capture Odessa he will definitely decide to include Pridnestrovie.

Finland has more modern battle tanks than Germany. More artillery shells then any other european country, modern artillery, f35 jets have bern ordered. Modern equipment and guns for the approx 300 000 soldiers during wartime. Most importantly, we have war experience and fresh memories of our past. The moral of fighting for our nation is among the highest in the world. Finns are born and raised skiing and being out in harsh conditions. We might not survive a full scale war with russia, but we will certainly leave a pretty dent. As for Sweden, Finland is their best defence, and Nato can come and help if needed 🇫🇮🇸🇪

Look, as a Swede I'm well aware of Finland's land strength and as a whole, I would not necessarily doubt the Finnish Army is stronger than the German one (although that's a little bit like saying "we're stronger than Monaco", the Bundeswehr is and long has been very underequipped for such an economically important country). But let's not be untrue with facts, Finland DOES NOT have more tanks, Finland has 239 MBTs and Germany has 295 currently, set to expand rapidly from this year onwards. You're still obviously the only country in Europe that has consistently taken defence seriously of course, except maybe Greece. Sadly those of us who have wanted to take defence seriously in Sweden since 2008 have not been listened to, until now. And even now it's more words than action

What about them? If you mean the importance part, naturally they are important strategically, for Finland also for many other reasons which is why Baltics has been red line for Finland even before NATO membership, meaning that Finland would have attacked Russia if Russia would have attacked any Baltic states.

@@ernst91 Are your out of your mind? Both Sweden and Finland will be huge net contributors towards NATO. Sweden has a ridiculously capable military industry for its size. In general, the cost that new members impose on the rest of the alliance is minuscule compared to the value they contribute to the alliance. In contrast to what some right-wing Russia-lovers are saying, its doesn't actually cost much to add another country to the NATO alliance. It is pretty much all upside.

I really like DW. Just not their infinite questions half of them redundant. IS this going to be that? Is that going to be this? Is this going to protect that? Is this going to fall? Is this this? Is that that? Like way too many nonsense questions that are often not needed to ask at all. you would also be frustrated if your mom keeps telling you potential issues that will never happen. This is DW. Good quality content, but questions that are just sometimes truly redundant. Also. DW has a tendency to delete comments. Let's see how freedom of speech is heralded. I copied my comment. And I can paste it whenever if DW doesn't like fair critisism

Depends which Europeans you ask. The US is pushing upon all of the West about all this woke stuff ie alphabet peeps, non-binary nonsense and political correctness, while a somewhat sensible white dictator to the east don't give a .... about any of that. So the "silent majority" of people in Europe who have been too scared to speak out for 10-20+ years now really couldn't give a toss about their democracy/sovereignty if Russia really wants to take all of Europe. Then the US will be isolated, like N.Korea but without any allies whatsoever.

We can travel to the other side of the world and take over two countries, at the same time, in a few months, and then hold them for 20 years, losing fewer than 7,100 brave and honorable soldiers while doing so. The macho Russian army hasn't been able to take and hold more than 18% of a much smaller country on their own border, and it has lost tens of thousands of soldiers in two years. Sweden is pathetic for giving in to the warmongering nato. Expect opposite alliances on the other side of the globe and a potential cold war with yet another period of fear for nuclear winter. Not proud of how sweden, without any second though or parlament vote, threw themselves at nato ans is seemingly embracing a comming militarization.
