Ants over near our home don't like Lavendar oil. We simply line the door way and the window frames, door frames with lavendar oil. And the ants go away. Also, citronella candles are great for keeping mosquitos and other forest bugs and insects away. Also another tip, burning incense is great for keeping the bugs away too including mosquitos. We put a few incense sticks around on the deck in the early evening and enjoy a nice bug free candle-light dinner on the deck or porch.

Bhante, Does internet surfing for entertainment or TV viewing come under the 7th Sila, i.e. refraining from all sensual entertainment? Also, how seriously must a lay Meditator treat this Sila? What confuses me about net-surfing is that these sort of entertainments did not exist in 500 BC. After all, in 500 BC, how many plays could one possibly watch in succession. And how often could he do so. Today, the number of distractions for the mind by way of entertainments is infinitely greater than what it was in 500 B.C. So I wonder if the Buddha would treat this Sila with much greater importance for modern times than for 500 B.C. Another thing that confuses me about internet surfing is that sometimes I feel this must come under the 4th Sila, i.e. of pointless talk. After all, the fourth Sila includes not just lying, slandering, backbiting and harsh speech. But it also includes pointless speech. I'm wondering if net surfing addiction is actually much closer to pointless speech than it is to sensual entertainment. Does incessant internet surfing come under the 4th Sila or the 7th Sila, I wonder. I find this confusing. I would be grateful if the Bhante would shed some light on this matter and clear my confusion.

Hi If you reread what you wrote you may see you answered your own question. If the speech or the search is pointless and mindless that is the habit that is being strengthened/cultivated.

+PossessWithin Prostitution is much more complex than you might think at first. First the girl may doing this under duress. She may be underage and too young. And if she is under a protection of a parent and not independent and on her own that would break the precept for too young and under protection of parents. If she was completely independent of these outside factors and worked on her own you might make a case- but how could you ever really know.
