Chuckled at end. Good message. Worse, once stuff gets beyond a point of messy, you don't even want to deal with it. Of course, sometimes there are other issues actually causing the mess.

Sure, there might be reasons for why the garage or the workshop looks messy. I know it can be overwhelming if it get too bad, best to not let it slide too long 😬 Many people say it's impossible to keep it tidy or structured because they just don't have enough space, or they have too much stuff. I don't really buy that, it's in these situations it's really important to invest in smarter solutions, utilize the space better and keep it as tidy as possible.

Always look at sailboat people to relearn things that we have been doing for thousands of years. Space efficiency is very advanced on sailboats and tools are no exception. Every time I see a clever workshop hack, I remember that there is a sailboat product for that :)

I totally believe that! I had a former submarine captain as my manager on a summer job many years ago. I think that might be very similar, probably just even more extreme. He learned me not only that structure and tidiness is the utter importance for a job to be well done, but also how important the teamwork is. I guess you really need to trust your team mates at the bottom of the ocean in a tin can 🙄

Hahaha, another great video Hestad. I love the fact that you paint the brush at the end. 🤣 I can hear the doctors calling. But this is a really good point. and something more people should be aware of. But you can also have a structured mess, I can have that inside some of my boxes, but I try to have a clean and neat facade, like your workshop. Love your style of filming. Great work.

Haha, I just had to paint it - it was the last piece of unpainted wood in my garage 😆😂 For me a tidy workspace gives me some kind of calmness, and I do agree - it's not that tidy inside my drawers and cabinets, as long as it is efficient it works for me.

I work with the organised chaos system, which is all well and good 'till someone moves something, then my universe falls apart. Also, it's a law of nature that as soon as you buy a replacement for the tool you cannot find, you will find it. Thanks for sharing.

I like things somewhere in between. If I tidy to that level I feel like I'm not doing anything productive. But I also dislike complete chaos. One really talented mobilist one time wandered to my garage and I was quite ashamed how "chaos" it happened to be and he smiled to me to me and said "Well it's ok. You have to remember that there has been at least trying of something". I knew he was quite organized, but he said to me that it can happen to anyone when in serious flow, so-to-say.

True, it can even turn out to be an obsession (OCD), then it's no good. Life is a balance, and it applies to tidiness as well 😊 It can be quite chaotic in my garage as well when I am in the middle of a job. I do believe it's smart to take a pause in between of projects to tidy up and improve the workspace, instead of just rushing into the next project. It creates some kind of breathing space, where you can appreciate what is done and prepare what is coming. I normally try to find the one thing that can improve my workflow or make me even more satisfied with my workspace, and then try to improve it before starting the next project.

Haha, yes - I just had to paint it 😆 It was the last unpainted wooden piece in my garage! Totally agree: "swabs" and "squeegees" sounds much more fun than what it really is 😁

I do like to keep my garage neat and tidy but it's hard. I have a lot of stuff. I generally have enough tools, materials and consumables do just about anything I want in there. Home repairs, yard and garden, I've even painted a few cars in my garage. I have a mid-rise scissor lift that I use for working on our cars. We also get our fair share of snow here in Northwestern Canada so my wife and I park our cars in the garage in winter and our Miatas inside in summer. I sweep in there all the time (more in summer) and after I sweep I use my leaf blower or air compressor to blow out all the remaining dust. I do admire your garage though. I wish I could be as minimalist as you. I also use my 3D printer for stuff like this, as well as for making car parts. The water broom thingy is called a "squeegee" in English. Have a great day

Aha, squeegee - nice to know, thanks ☺️ It is definitely harder to keep it tidy when the same space is used to multiple purposes, and especially if it needs to be used for storage as well. I built a shed some years ago for storage, that made it possible for me to free up the space.

I built a shed about five years ago also, but it filled fast. I'm a bit of a tool and gadget hound. I went from a 20x20' garage to a 24x26' thinking I'd have lots of room, but it filled fast. There's a saying about nature abhorring a vacuum

Yes, I totally agree. It is of course possible to prevent accidents by just being very careful and move around very slowly in a messy / crowded space, but a tidy and structured space is a must to be able to work efficient 😊

I've been there. Buy new tools, to find them somewhere. And lack of space! I have a lab full of things and finding space is a real challenge. Keeping it tidy is almost impossible due to the structure that is very ancient. I have to make a video about that but you can see it in my channel. It's basically a cave - a real cave - an original Sicilian structure made of stones into a cave, with a full arc - and I always have problems with dust because of the ancient walls and uneven floors. They're dated back to early 1700 but the basic structure is from 1400 or so. A difficult challenge for me, but I'm trying and some advices you give in your channel are very inspiring. Thank you!

Just got back from my garage for cleaning and arranging it for after few hours and finishing few small projects just to see the same Biltema brush and støvbrett in your video thumbnail that I have. Again great video. I also agree fully your principal and follow it too (structured, tidy and continuous improvent). My garage is just not minimalistic; I have a lot of materia - so strucure is even more important. Utilize all the wall and also ceiling where possible. Was your .stl files available for download? I already have broom holder but the problem is that I need to hang it upside down, needs improving. Though wooden stick has its limitations as you know so maybe upgrade is needed :)

Very cool ☺️ seems like we have lot of the same thoughts 👍 Hanging the broom upside down is not that good when it is wet or very dirty, then it's nice to keep it with the brush hanging down. I can make a zip file with the STL files for 3D printing the parts I used in the video 😊

1 step even better would be to combine the 2 tools into 1. I have seen and owned brooms with the rubber strip on the back edge. No disassembly needed. Just a flick of the wrist, and you're using the squeegee. Flick it over again for the broom.

As always, super impressive with the 3d printing and colour matching. But I have to say a toolflex rail and some holders would be quicker and more flexible for when you want to quickly ‘park’ something on the wall with the broom-squeegee. Like a mop, or koben, or a telescopic handle for a paint roller, etc. Is your floor sealed or treated? I used floor paint on mine to reduce the concrete dust and it worked great, but is lethally slippery when wet….
