I just learned that the nail seems to be an production issue. It shall not touch the second shackle. I guess this can happen if you assemble something by hand. Thanks for the info Goetz!

@@LithiumProductions I think the nail was there to serve as a guide for the front shackle; if you take a close look when he's manipulating the disassembled puzzle, you'll see a thin slit along the left side of the front shackle. My guess is, the nail's supposed to fit into that slit and keep the front shackle properly aligned with the sliders.

Great puzzle, but I'm glad you clarified about the second shackle, because that nail would make it completely impossible. Obviously a production issue. The confusing thing for me is why there appears to be a slot cut into the first shackle to accommodate the nail??

I think you need to talk to the developer and come back and update us with your findings, because I'm really confused by the other shackle. You could conceivably open it if the wedge piece weren't there, so I'm not totally sure why they included it. Also, the bottom piece that swivels around confused me. I see that it holds the first shackle in, but I'm confused by the notch in the other light piece next to it.

@Danielle Anderson I saw the same issue with the wedge at the beginning also the rotating triangle at the bottom. Hypothetically it the nail had not been there the first shackle would have just feel out within a move or two. I don't think many others caught that.

I agree wth other comments that state that the makers of the puzzle should tell you exactly what the solution is, otherwise it's just a waste of time. We all know that the average lock opens completely at the top & not only 1/2 way. Therefore, my conclusion is that this puzzle is half assed................... :)

I think to sell it as a lock puzzle knowing that only part of the lock actually opens is unfair. If they realised the second part wasn’t reliable enough then they should have redesigned it and not just nail it to prevent its removal. You could be trying for days to remove both shackles when actually you managed to remove one within 60min and completed the puzzle. It surprises me that they’ve chosen to sell the puzzle that’s made in such a sloppy unfair way.

I think the problem is the that the nail in question is too long. If the nail in question was shorter so the it did not hold the bottom shackle in place once, the puzzle would be solvable. It the nail was just long enough to fit into the top shackle’s slit then that would still serve the purpose of preventing the triangle piece from getting dislodge in such a way as to make it impossible to put it back where it belongs without taking apart the puzzle. With a shorter nail the triangle could only move towards the faceplate, not side ways, thus once it is up against the backside of the faceplate then the top of the lower shackle is free to pivot left, opening it. If you wanted to try a fix for this puzzle, you could use a hammer to push the nail in somewhat for the backside so that it only stick down about 5 mm or whatever the thickness of the top shackle part is. This would make the head of the nail stick out of the top of the faceplate but if this works the you could fix the puzzle by cutting the nail shorter and putting it back in. If it doesn’t solve the issue issue with the puzzle then you simply hammer it down again back to what it was when you first got the puzzle.

What I think about this puzzle is why would they decide to make the 2nd part of the puzzle unsolvable by putting a nail through the 2nd hinge? I know he said they probably thought that the 1 piece in the puzzle would be hard to put back in, but that's the beauty of puzzles, the difficulty of taking apart and putting back together. 🔒🔓🔐🔑 (couldn't find a puzzle piece emote)

That is designed very nicely. Beautiful wood I like that! Nice craftsmanship! Wouldn’t work as a practical lock seeing how you could just saw the wood but would be good to put on display or use on something around the house. You should put it on a puzzle box so in order to solve the puzzle you must first open the lock. That’s a good idea for a video to combine the puzzles to make one hard one. 😃 😊

@@giovanniyorke7455 However you need to factor in the emotions of the owner.....check Chris Ramsey who had a pyramid shaped puzzle, made out of metal. Chris got really frustrated and decided he would never solve it, so used a circular SAW and cut it open (he knew there was a genuine diamond in the top). When he opened it, the diamond was so small as to be invisible! The point of this long-winded tale is what happened next. Chris was devastated, not about the diamond, but that he had destroyed the puzzle. He was really upset! He felt that he had done a bad thing, and was feeling VERY guilty! PLEASE DON'T TAKE A SAW TO A PUZZLE, that would bring a straight RED CARD in Soccer ("ejected" as I think the Americans say)! Put it on a shelf and keep coming back to it until you finally solve it (or search KZbin for the solution) & if you can't stand looking at it, sell it or give it away!

Its not unfair. Its stupid. Second shackle is separate part, but it could be fixed to the main body too, and effect would be the same. Its, not impossible because even when you move everything randomly you are still able to open it.

If it's a lock puzzle it should be solvable (IMO) in the position of a normal padlock. In other words if this was on a locker. You shouldn't be able to flip it upside down, turn it over etc.… when it's locked on a locker or fence you have limited movement. (and padlocks should be metal) :) I didn't like that the whole latch didn't fully clear. There's just a lot of better ball bearing slide puzzles out there as seen on this channel.

I think you were right, they originally intended for the other piece to come out but later added the nail. They should have just removed that piece altogether, because now you never truly know if you solved the puzzle as intended.

It looks like a manufacturing defect. Maybe the pin in the second shackle is supposed to move in a slot they forgot to mill. Cos once you've taken out the first shackle and turned the lock face down, bash it on the back then turn it vertical but upside down, bash it on the bottom then the triangle piece should drop out freeing the second shackle to rotate, but they forgot to mill the slot

This does not seem right. The second shackle can't be opened without taking the puzzle apart, therefore the puzzle is not legitimately solvable. It looks like they may have intended for it to open but changed their minds? The channel where it rotates is filled with a wooden wedge - which you could remove as part of the solution .. but how in the world are you supposed to get the nail out?? The nail is not an afterthought either, because it is used as the guide pin for the main shackle. This is a strangely half-baked design from a company whose puzzles are usually so good. Seems like an unfinished prototype.

Tut er doch gar nicht. Er löst das Puzzle das erste mal vor der Kamera, wo die Zeit läuft, also im zweiten Teil des Videos. Man sieht ja seine Versuche, wie er probiert und wie lange es gedauert hat schlussendlich. Der erste Teil des Videos nimmt er nach dem Lösen des Puzzles auf, damit er auch etwas dazu erzählen kann.

That's impossible puzzle... the idea was stolen from barmen (six bottle) puzzle but if that one you somehow can solve by logic, this one is impossible simply because there are no clues that wooden sticks has holes and there are balls there... that's called SAFE not a puzzle =)
