If you are feeling down about your own practice after watching this or any other video with Laruga, please know that she has been practicing Ashtanga CONTINUOUSLY since 1998. Time and dedication get you here. "Perfection" is not the object in yoga--growth is. No matter how slow your progress, no matter how far you seem from being able to achieve even a simple pose, you are reaping as much benefit as the next yogi as long as you are approaching it with an open heart and working with your breath. Even the most advanced yogi will never stop growing.

I would literally go to the bathroom on myself from coughing. I couldn't control my body functions at all. I started doing just 10 minutes of yoga everyday once out of the hospital, which then turned into an hourof yoga everyday. I never missed a day. Melissa Peddy with all due respect this video wouldn’t exactly disprove the notion of women being weaker than men, the only thing that possibly could disprove that argument would be a sudden change in the entirety of human biology, which would probably only happen over the course of millions of years Of course none of this goes against the fact that this women and women in general are amazing, the supreme control this women has over her body truly is a trait most men could only dream of Sorry for the long comment, have a lovely day/evening

That is not true. Give it a three years of dedicated practice, four times a week minimum, and you will get there.
@k.kirkland97965 жыл бұрын
@@Sehmetys You are completely ignoring the fact that for some people, due to bone structure or tendon and ligament placement, some of those moves will always be impossible. Every body is different, and not every body can manage full hip extension, side splits, etc. Encouraging people to push their bodies into forms that are physiologically impossible for them is what causes so many injuries in Yoga every year.
@Sehmetys5 жыл бұрын
@@k.kirkland9796 , what Laruga demonstrates are asanas from the first 3-4 series of Ashtanga yoga. This is also what I've been practicing for two years now, until Nakrasana. I am aware that this is a short amount of time. However, as someone who is neither long-limbed nor particularly skinny/strong/flexible, I still stand by what I said. According to the descriptions I find at various blogs and forums, my body is all ''wrong''. But in the end, not like it matters - because neither of these asanas is anatomically impossible. Dwi Pada Shirsasana, Kapotasana, Karandavasana - you name it. Provided that you practice with a qualified teacher, none of these is either dangerous nor impossible. All it takes is time and dedication.
@magentamagenta12745 жыл бұрын
@@Sehmetys I have practised yoga for 20 years and would totally disagree that this is possible for many many reasons. I suffer with osteo arthritis and fibromyalgia my body is flexible and supple but not capable of moving into positions that cause pain or discomfort. This is never ever ever the intention or reason to practice yoga. yoga should always be practised within an individuals comfort zone, it isn't necessary to glamorise or present a performance for people to feel in awe or daunted. Whilst I applaud Laruga for her performance and capabilities I would do the same for anyone at any level with their practise, because yoga will be personal and beneficial to each and everyone that chooses to practice.

I mean, she's pretty ripped. Did you mean women don't need big muscles to be strong? Because women, even straight-up power-lifters, don't put on "bulky" muscle the way men do. Not enough testosterone for that :). I see this way of thinking a lot, and I guess what I'm saying is don't be afraid to weight-lift or work on strength if you're a woman. Even insanely strong ladies (like the woman in this video) very rarely have that Schwarzenegger look.

I just finished a basic yoga routine and struggled through it. I got out of practice due to life circumstances, including a back injury. Now in my early 30s, I had an emotional moment over the aging of my body and how much more difficult it is now to get to the same place I was in my 20s, and how much more prone to injury I am now. Then clicked this video and immediately looked up Laruga's age.. at least 10 yrs older than me and with a body this strong.. I found this video inspiring, not discouraging. Thank you for sharing

Hi Valeria! So happy you have found yoga, however - try to be kind to yourself and don't put yourself in a position where you hurt your joints from overextending. Ashtangayoga is mostly about breathing. Hope you will focus on that. Follow @yogagirl on Instagram if you want a teacher who try to show that yoga is not about how flexible you are, it is about a lot of other things. Good luck, Anna

I’ve been practicing and teaching for years and I’m nowhere close to her level but I absolutely aspire to be. Once you master even one of these poses and can transition yourself slowly from one into the next with such fluidity?! It’s such an amazing high…but how do you start to learn these advanced moves and transitions???

I hear that! I've been practicing yoga on and off since my 20s (I'm 43) and never could get my feet flat. I now know I never will... I have abnormally short Achilles, and simply have to do the best I can with what I've got. So many poses that I need to modify, regardless of strength and flexibility. But hey... it's the journey, enjoy it!
