The Impossible Dream is a famous song written by Joe Darion with lyrics by Mitch Leigh. The song is the most popular from the 1965 Broadway musical Man of La Mancha and appears in the 1972 film of the same name starring Peter O'Toole.
Don Quixote sings the entire song for the first time when he stands guard over his armour, in answer to Aldonza (Dulcineaenquiry )'s about what he means by "following the quest." It is partially repeated three more times, the last time by dungeon inmates as Miguel de Cervantes and his manservant ascend the drawbridge-like prison stairway to face trial by the Spanish Inquisition.
