The Impossible HIPFLASK Puzzle - Hardest Puzzle in 2020?

You might remember the Titan Puzzle. For me definitely the hardest puzzle I solved during 2019. The Hipflask Puzzle that was released recently is the second design on Felix Ure from the UK. I am excited about trying it but also a bit afraid of how long it will take me. 3.., 2.., 1.., FIGHT!

Well done Mr Puzzle, great solve and great video! The pin was originally steel, but one hard twist with the steel pin made the steel dent the edges of the brass maze, expanding the brass enough to cause the central piece to stick. The plastic is PEEK, so it's very strong, I can't break it if I try - the warning on the card was just an added precaution 😁

I like mazes anyway but the simplicity but difficulty is awesome. There is something about well-machined items that just make me feel satisfied. The pin is probably nonmetallic to prevent it from making a "give-away" sound when it strikes the center maze part. Great puzzle, too bad you can't actually put any Kirsch in it! lol

Minor clickbait, but for the average person who has limited experience with puzzles, these would be nearly impossible to solve. Keep in mind Mr.Puzzle is an expert level puzzler and a highly trained engineer to boot, so his skill level for something like this far exceeds that of the average person.

Definitely the Titan. The hip flaks is a great puzzle, but too expensive for an ‘easy’ solution where the only really difficult part is figuring out what to do with the two pins. For this price I would have expected more steps to remove the lid. I also love how simply the Titan looks, it is just a sphere and that’s it.

So this is in effect a combination lock with no numbers, but instead of lining up the tumblers, you line up the cylinder with the one pin. Very cleve indeed.

Does the pin being plastic increase the difficulty? It seems like it might decrease tactile feedback; causing you to relay on trial an error more, and less by feel.

I suspect the lightweight plastic pin prevents a banging attack, where you pull on the lid while firmly banging the body of the puzzle on the table. If it were heavier steel, it would be quicker to bump the puzzle open than going through all the twisting. Having seen you bang puzzles more than once, this seems like a reasonable precaution.

Something can be impossible to intuit, even if a solution exists and can be shown. I recall one stupid thing that was some kinda multi-stage clock/safe/phone monstrosity (Ramsey did it, maybe?) and it came with a solution guide but there was genuinely no way anyone could figure it out on their own.
